The Dodgers will be effectively playing with 23 men tonight against the Padres, writes David Lassen of the Press Enterprise:
With Rafael Furcal unavailable -- and the same likely to be true of Russell Martin, although the Dodgers don't yet have a report from today's MRI -- it appears Joe Torre will be working with a 23-man roster tonight.
And, with Martin's status uncertain, the Dodgers made a move to ensure they'd have a backup catcher, recalling A.J. Ellis from Albuquerque and sending down outfielder Xavier Paul.
"We just needed to do that for protection," said Torre, "because even if Russell is not going to be (going to the disabled list) it's still going to be a few days."
Furcal is going to miss several days with the back problem that flared up after Monday's game. "He's probably going to be (out) the rest of this week," Torre said. "Hopefully by the time we go the road, he'll be a player for us."
UPDATE: Russell Martin's MRI results came back and the results were not good:
Martin to the DL with a right hip labral tear. He'll be reevaluated tomorrow. Reed Johnson activated for tonight's game.

I think the hip labral tear is what UCLA’s Josh Shipp had (he actually did it once on each hip). If thats what it is, Russ is in deep doodoo because thats an awful injury.

If the Pirates put Doumit on waivers do you think that the Ddogers will put a claim on him since they got Snyder they are supposedly going to platoon him at C and OF and he is owed I think around $12 million over the next couple of years.

I agree with Jon that we could be looking at the end of Martin’s Dodger career.
I'm not a Martin guy, but i hope he recovers.

Up here in NorCal they change lyrics to random songs to fit Giants players.
They’re actually pretty decent. After running a rendition of Soundgarden’s “Beardman” through my mind, I was wondering if anybody else had any other players that could fit into some popular lyrics with some minor alterations.
I should be more specific, though I do hope that GA's time is nearing, beautiful friends.
For example, Panama! becomes “Lin-ce-cum!”. Some really horrible singer did his own rendition and they still play it occasionally. I’m thinking things along these lines.

Yeah. The only difference was, he gets like $5 million/year instead of the low salary of the guys we got as position players.

Is the eephus new to Padilla's repertoire?
I assume it is. On Fangraphs PitchFX data, they have him throwing an “unknown pitch” 6.9% of the time this season and only around .5% in past years. If he has developed a new and effective pitch maybe he can be above average rather than merely average.
