I'm still flinching if i'm in the passenger seat and make a comment about the driver's lack of skills
he never reached base when he was a hitter
how else was he supposed to know what a pickoff is?

I felt great about this game going in
But that fades with every ball that finds a Padre glove and every Padre runner that just beats the throw…
That ball just doesn't move
it’s like it’s carving out its own jet stream

lol i cant help but laugh at how slow tha tpickoff move is
and how close that was considering

13 starting pitchers this season have won this season without a strikeout
including Correia, and Monasterios
The Tigers won a game earlier this season in which no one (starter or relievers) had a strikeout

Wow
Nice pull. They are the only team to do that this season.

And what the hell happened to the top of our lineup?
Used to I could be excited to see it roll back around. Now it fills me with dread.
I enjoyed it
Tina Fey and steve Carrel had pretty good chemistry. If you like the both of them its worth seeing.
LOL Joe Torre
Officially raising the white flag on this game…
I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
For those of you who hate the bunt and dislike Torre
First and second nobody out in the 7th. You have the weakest part of your lineup coming up-the best bullpen in the majors. Jammy Carrol up the best bunter on your team. Have him get the runners to 2nd and 3rd and hope the DP ball that Ellis hits gets the run home, and then when you pinch hit with GA, maybe he gets lucky and you get another run. Your deficit is only two runs and maybe 1. Instead you do nothing, and play right into the hands of the Padre strength-their late inning bullpen.
I don’t believe in bunting runners over down by three. But, I do like dropping a drag bunt and at worst you move the runners over.
Expected runs in an inning
courtesy of Baseball Prospectus, based on actual PBP data:
1st & 2nd, 0 outs: 1.43156 runs that inning
2nd & 3rd, 1 out: 1.38738 runs that inning

Why i bunt there
Alex41592
Understand your view of the bunt, but I do it there exactly because the weak hitters the Dodgers had coming up and the weak bench, isn’t going to produce a 3 run homer!! Even if you only get 1 run you are closer
Trading outs for runs (and in this case the chance of a run) is not smart baseball down 3 in the late innings.

true i typed that before I heard bell
thinking he was going to a lefty
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
Why i bunt with your best OBP man up
Joey Joe
I do it there because there was no one behind Carrol. I would have actually pinch hit for AJ there with Belliard in hopes that he does something and then put in Asmus the rest of the game. It is not like it was the 4th inning. 3-4 with the Pods versus 2-2, especially when everyone lost tonight is a big game.

Apparently the Padres own our asses in that ever important last game of the series
Chance to make it 4 games back last week, went to 6 instead….chance to make it 6 this week…looks more like 8.
Not giving Up
On this one you can’t accuse Torre giving up with these moves, it is the bench he doesn’t have and the fact that GA is still on this team.
…and it get’s better with a runner on first

To be fair
None of our Right Fielders could have done any better, so he really wasn’t in error per se
How would you define your approach to management, apart from being brilliant?
He hit the ball directly into the ground, easily could have been a double play, and ends up as an inside the park homer. The Padres are freaking charmed this year.
I'm trying really hard not to rage about the fact that we don't have McDonald anymore
and that we let him start one fucking game that he didn’t even do taht horribly in before shoving him in the pen and then trading him PLUS another player for another aging veteran who is arguably not even much better.
OooOOoo
Parks and Recreation is on : )

That's OK LA
It’s not like this was a golden opportunity to gain ground on every single team you need to gain ground on. Oh, it was?
I have to confirm, but I would assume that HR would be excluded from his FIP and x-FIP

Edwin Jackson & Chuck Tiffany for Danys Baez & Lance Carter
James McDonald & Andrew Lambo for Octavio Dotel
Uh…
At least the 2009 team was destined for the post-season.
Still stupid, but less so.
by Michael White on Aug 5, 2010 9:59 PM PDT up reply actions
Lambo is going to come back to haunt us much faster
hell its already haunting me after the game mcdonald had tonight
We could have traded Lambo straight up for Dotel, Lambo could never play a game of major league baseball, and it would still be a poor trade.

I was sour on him this year
but totally expected him in the rotation next year. Now what?!? Kershaw, Billz. TBA TBA TBA?
He had 14 swinging strikes tonight in like 85 pitches. Thats awesome. Averaged 93 with his fastball, max at 96. I mean, that velocity is Edwin Jackson-like.

I do hope if the Dodgers continue to under perform that we at least knock the Giants out.
I'd like to see an inside-the-park grand slam sometime
Just not against the Tigers. Or the Dodgers.

Let's not pretend it's going to be easy
Dodgers are going to drag this shit out forever. Probably won’t really be eliminated until the last damn week of the season. Get read for 2 more months of horse shit.

But it was nice talking to you guys again. I’ll try to stop by again soon. For now, I bid you good night (I’m in Ohio and it’s past 1 AM here!).

Fine, I give up.
Screw this.
Does anybody have a good rundown of the top 15 amateurs coming up for next year’s draft? I need something baseball-related to get excited about.
Oh, I guess it doesn’t matter, we’ll just either draft a guy that’s going into NASCAR and can’t be signed, or an off-the-radar high school pitcher that costs the bare minimum to sign.
Can we please have some crazy financial stuff come out of this divorce that reveals that everybody involved is broke, so we can get this team sold to cover debts?
Oh hell… MARK CUBAN, PLEASE BUY THIS TEAM.
