Ronald Belisario will begin a rehab assignment with Class A Inland Empire Saturday and potentially Sunday as well, per Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times. The 66ers are on the road this weekend in Rancho Cucamonga. Hernandez also reported that Belisario could be activated by Tuesday, when the Dodgers begin a road trip in Philadelphia.

The Nationals have purchased the contract of Kevin Mench, who last played a major league game on September 28, 2008, writes Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post. Nyjer Morgan was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore hip.

Here are the lineups:

Nationals      Dodgers
CF Maxwell LF Podsednik
SS Desmond 2B Theriot
3B Zimmerman   RF Ethier
1B Dunn CF Kemp
LF Willingham 1B Loney
RF Morse
3B Blake
C Pudge II SS Carroll

How did Lyons not choose Full House?!?! He could pass for Coulier.

Context: They asked a bunch of guys which they prefer – SBTB or Full House

by silverwidow on Aug 6, 2010 6:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Saved by the Bell had much hotter chicks. Also, mid twenties actors playing teenagers is less creepy than actual underaged girls playing little kids.

by Tripon on Aug 6, 2010 6:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, I much prefer SBTB. But it would have been funny if Lyons had chosen Full House (to me, anyway).

is not the right batting order spot for Pods.

I object to him leading off against LHP

If Jamey Gamer is playing anyway, this is when you throw his OBP up there and bat Pods 7th. While we are stuck with the Mannyless LF, I am ok with Pods leading off against RHP. And then Jamey Gamer should hit two and Hi-ho Theriot should hit 7th. The feeble catchers have to hit 8th.

Even if

2 of the 3 guys in the 3-4-5 spots were hitting like they should, this is such a sorry looking lineup (it’s downright laughable given how Kemp and Ethier have fallen off the face of the planet), and I’m getting so sick of seeing it.

Why isnt Jon Huber in AAA?

He probably wouldnt make an impact on the Dodgers anyways, but who knows if he is able to have success in the launching pad of AAA. What is the point of having a 29 year old with a .90 ERA in AA?

The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.

by David Young on Aug 6, 2010 7:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Bob Valentine, but he's going to cost the team just as much as Torre.

And I doubt Ned wants a guy who will have just as much power or more power in the organization. Say what you will about Joe Torre, but he doesn’t threaten Ned’s sphere of influence, they were able to co-exist together the years they were here.

But Bobby Valentine basically expects to be the coach and GM, putting his own people in place.

by Tripon on Aug 6, 2010 7:44 PM PDT up reply actions

I think if Torre's gone, Bowa is as well.

Bob Scheafer’s only gone if he retires, I think. Can’t blame Mariano Duncan for anything. It also probably time to say goodbye to Rick Honeycutt. Dodgers keep on sending their rehabbing pitchers to Charlie Hough so it makes sense to promote him to the regular pitching coach, and Tim Wallach deserves to be on the staff somewhere even if you don’t want to make him the manager at either hitting coach or 3rd base.

I honestly think Donnie Mattingly would get a fair shot to coach the Dodgers, so I don’t mind if it is his job in 2011.

by Tripon on Aug 6, 2010 7:41 PM PDT up reply actions

What has Honeycutt done to earn an axe?

by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 7:44 PM PDT up reply actions

You expect some movement within the coaching staff.

And why have a guy like Honeycutt when you have Hough waiting in the wings.

by Tripon on Aug 6, 2010 7:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Hey....

Maybe rehabbing with hough helped Padilla earlier this year. You never know…..might have something to do with the soap bubble, wasn’t hough a knuckleballer?

by Taylor Maricle on Aug 6, 2010 7:47 PM PDT up reply actions

So, Hough once talked to Padilla, so he’s getting credit for Padilla’s rebound post-DL? Honeycutt, the actually pitching coach, is the one getting canned.

Makes sense.

by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions

i'm just suggesting it.

Not giving him the credit. I said the words “might” and “maybe”.

by Taylor Maricle on Aug 6, 2010 7:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Nothing.

Which is probably his point. How long again did it take him to pinpoint billingsley’s 2009 problems? Oh right, May 2010.

The dodgers just need a full-out regime change form the staff, to the GM, to the owner.

by Taylor Maricle on Aug 6, 2010 7:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, keep holding your breath on that owner change.

The Dodgers have excellent starting pitching and back end of the bullpen. Not sure why coaches only get blame for stuff and none of the credit.

by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 7:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Torre gets a lot of the love when the team is going well.

But its true that Mattingly and Honeycutt are faceless creatures for most of the season until something bad happens.

by Tripon on Aug 6, 2010 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, I can definitely make the argument for canning Torre and Mattingly. I think Honeycutt has had a solid pitching staff the past few years and should be given some credit there.

by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Doesn’t Honeycutt get everyone throwing a cutter? Except Danys Baez with his straight BBs?
