I would have to see a video

Of all the examples you could have used….Hanson? Really?

Dude
my daughter is 20 and out of the house. I’ve merely heard of them dudes.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
It makes my point
more valid.
Those dudes are the epitome of pussies and I’m sure that they get laid
I wouldn’t call it a timely example.
I doubt they are getting much play on their Hanson success from a decade ago.

Really?
The girls that dug them are legal now. They got play.

After reading Langhorne's clam chowder diatribe
84 threads ago, I am beginning to rethink my hat stance. To someone not as invested emotionally in the subject as I am, I probably come off sounding like a pretentious asshole.
(no offense, Langhorne)
You think you get that reaction
just because of the hat thing? ;)

I have a Nationals cap
Maybe I’ll wear it tomorrow
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 9:30 PM PDT up reply actions
It’s my red hat.
Dodgers are blue.
Nationals red.
Tigers black

I have a brown one
with sticker. I will try to remember to bring it.

Did they wear blue uniforms in the 70s or 80s?
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 9:26 PM PDT up reply actions
Our catchers suck.
Brad Ausmus and AJ Ellis has done the impossible. They have made me pine for Rusell Martin.
Is there a strategy for new game threads?
I always thought having one 900 comment thread was better than having 3-4 of them.
yeah but then it gets really slow
Adam Morrison has more rings than Lebron, Bosh, and Wade combined?

As is Ronnie Belliard
You have to use one or the other for GA. Can’t let the LOOGY gobble up both GA and Pods.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
I realize the bench is short with no Furcal
but it is the bottom of the 7th down three runs. Fuck it.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
torre's crush on GA
is the stupidest thing going on in htse screwed up year
by MammothDodger on Aug 6, 2010 9:32 PM PDT up reply actions
Hall of fucking fame manager doesn't call back GA for Johnson with a lefty on the mound.
GAARP hits the ball a grand total of 10 ft.
then “veteran” Podsednik does that rookie “bend down on low pitches to make sure it’s a strike” deal on his way to a strikeout.
heh
pretty cheap home runs, but they still count.
Adam Morrison has more rings than Lebron, Bosh, and Wade combined?
yeah
that’s what he’s talkin’ bout.
Whatchoo talkin’ ’bout Willis???
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
didnt they both hit the foul pole?
Adam Morrison has more rings than Lebron, Bosh, and Wade combined?
the first one went that far??
never mind.
Adam Morrison has more rings than Lebron, Bosh, and Wade combined?
I was sitting there the other night
And we agreed that not even Barry could hit it there. Wrong.
@soyboquense
They were barely fair, though. I think that's his point.
Not that i agree….

If you're a transplant from Montreal
You don’t have to root for the Nats, there’s 3 other baseball teams in the area you can root for.
Um…
You have a loose definition of area.
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 9:35 PM PDT up reply actions
SoCal is a big place and a lot of movement within the area.
I think its fair game to be a fan of the Dodgers, Angels, or Padres if you were a former Expo fan.
Oh. I missed your point.
I thought you said there were 3 teams near Montreal that one could root for.
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 9:38 PM PDT up reply actions
How long do the Nationals have before deciding whether to pull Adam Dunn back from waivers?
It’d be rather cruel of them to let him beat up on the Dodgers this weekend, then Monday decide that the Dodgers can have him.
but if it was done on Thursday
the commissioner office apparently does not work weekends so that makes it Monday, or so i learned when we waived GS
by MammothDodger on Aug 6, 2010 9:41 PM PDT up reply actions
They're not trading Dunn.
He’s worth a lot to that team, if only for the two draft picks they’ll get for him.
Did Tron just throw a scoreless inning?
with only one baserunner? And two ground outs?
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
Not at all.
But on the same token, should the team consider sending down Jansen to suppress his service time? Mull that kind of thinking.
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 9:40 PM PDT up reply actions
Good point
If we are still 8 back a week from now, might make sense to bring Paul back up, dump GA and give him an extended tryout – EXCEPT JOE TORRE WILL NEVER START PAUL OVER PODSEDNIK.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
would this team be more fun to root for if it went full youth, and put guys like DeJesus, Robinson, and Sands on the team?
No.
Be careful what you wish for. I keep telling you folks, sporting goods stores all over America are littered with guys who killed it in the minors but didn’t do shit in the show.
Roger “San” Bernadina now in RF for the Nats. I don’t think they have a defensive replacement for Dunn! Maybe Adam Kennedy.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
No he isn't
Didn’t you read my damn preview?
career UZR/150 of -16.4
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
SMALL SAMPLE SIZE
His career shows he sucks. You know he ain’t improving.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
Of course its SSS
Dunn also moved across the diamond frequently. For a guy who can’t hack it defensively, that turned his bad numbers into something even worse that it should be. Stabilizing a position for him can only do him good.
Also, there’s issues of UZR and 1st base.
How would he know that?
Because he watches the Nationals a ton?
Reciting UZR as gospel is misguided.
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 9:51 PM PDT up reply actions
I have no idea if Dunn defense actually improved.
I am assuming that staying at 1st base, which is the easiest defensive position on the field is helping him retain his value though.
Once again the Dodgers suck
But hey, at this rate we won’t have to wonder if the Dodgers can still make the playoffs. Math will take care of that.
There are people on this board who still think the playoffs are a possibility?
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 9:47 PM PDT up reply actions
He has given up 1 run in his last 4 innings
thats pretty impressive
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 6, 2010 9:50 PM PDT up reply actions
Of course that one run cost us a game in SD
but its all good
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 6, 2010 9:51 PM PDT up reply actions
One run in 4 innings. Oooooh….I’m getting goose bumps!
I agree, he’s shown improvement and I’m hopeful he returns to form because he seems like a good dude. I certainly haven’t heard any crap from him this year.
Not me
but when two teams are playing out the string, anything can happen.
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
i still hope for it
for that same reason but i’ve come to realize that it’s not likely.
Seriously, Dodgers... HELP WANTED
Less than one week after acquiring them
Ned’s new vets are meaningless. Irony?
The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
Really? It seems like Kemp and Loney have been the meaningless ones the last couple of games. The guys in front of them have been getting on.

Hey guys, Pirates fan here (I know, it's sad)
Anybody on here ever seen Lambo play? All I know, and all any of us know on the Bucs fan site is run of the mill stuff….talent, immature, pot.
Any first-hand knowledge?
Thanks. Good luck.

There are a lot of great minor league posters here, but not usually in the game threads. Ask in the minor league reports in the fanposts.

Dodgers are 14th in the overall standings(both leagues)
Which would mean that the Dodgers would still give up a first rounder if they sign a type-A. The Dodgers can’t even lose right.
Hey....
At least that means we might actually get a REAL first rounder, instead of a guy that fell because of signability or a guy with a guy hole in his game with no more than #2/#3 potential in a perfect world.
by Taylor Maricle on Aug 6, 2010 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions
*with a hole
Lol @ “guy hole in his game”
by Taylor Maricle on Aug 6, 2010 9:56 PM PDT up reply actions
I doubt it matters.
I don’t see the Dodgers signing another teams Type A.
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 9:57 PM PDT up reply actions
Wait, I counted wrong.
They are 15th in the overall standings, so they are the last team to get a protected first rounder. Bring on Adam Dunn!
Uh....
it’s the 16-30 teams that get the first 15 picks. 15th in the league means the 16th pick.
by Taylor Maricle on Aug 6, 2010 9:59 PM PDT up reply actions
Whose the worst Type A available?
He will probably be signed
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 6, 2010 9:57 PM PDT up reply actions
Placing him on waivers was the best fakeout of all time.

Losing teams just in it to help the contenders
Do you think, round about now, that many of the players on losing teams would prefer to just throw in the towel and forfeit the rest of their games? They can’t, not just because of the lost revenue to their owners and, I guess, the fans if anyone cares about them, but because it wouldn’t be fair to contending teams to have a rival win umpteen forfeited games while they only win 2 or 3 that way. The losing teams have to stay in it so that there’s fair play for the contending teams. Not much of an incentive to try to win a game.
Probably true for this year...
Though, you do have to look at when he was finally able to get someone to look at his mechanics from a focused point of view. That would be the bullpen with Martin on 7/24.
Since then his line is:
6 G, 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, .188/.188/.188/.376 (Yes, I know, small sample size)
Just FYI, since the AS Break, here are the numbers:
10 G, 6.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER (2B, HR), 1 BB, 4 K, .269/.296/.423/.719 (incl non-warm up game v SF)
I was thinking of that once I saw him on the mound.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 6, 2010 10:07 PM PDT up reply actions
Wow, he never talks about that. Only if the guest brings it up. He’ll hang up on callers who bring it up.
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 10:10 PM PDT up reply actions
Which is funny since he wouldn’t have a national career without it.
"A baseball game is nothing but a great slow contraption for getting you to pay attention to the cadence of a summer day."
He had a national career before that, since it was a nationally televised show when that occurred.
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 10:13 PM PDT up reply actions
No, it was a syndicated show. He was offered a national show after the incident.
"A baseball game is nothing but a great slow contraption for getting you to pay attention to the cadence of a summer day."
Getting caught up on the AA boxscores
Dee Gordon was 0-for-7 tonight. Sands had one hit in the same number of ABs.
At least Rubby and Trayvon had terrific games.
Oh, how I was saying that about Withrow last year.
by Michael White on Aug 6, 2010 10:10 PM PDT up reply actions
Some of my fanaticm about Rubby is because he’s from DR.
Just the stories of how some of those kids get found, get in the Dodgers program, and make it to the big leagues is pretty cool.
Been awhile since the Dodgers had a true Dominican star come up thru the ranks. Mondesi, Beltre, Pedro, Ramon…Not much else.

I hate our damn bench this season
We were pleasantly surprised by our bench last season I guess, this year it’s a bunch of crap
The bench last season was a mirage. All good starts, and nothing after May, until Belliard arrived.

This year's bench
is now basically starting most games.
That’s why.

We lose
Another wasted chance to gain on SD. Spinning wheels is about all this LA team can do anymore…
Surprised we didn't manage
to score negative runs tonight. I’ll chalk this up as a win.
