8/9/10 Minor League Report – Cash is so Money
Sorry to use this title so early in his career, but I just couldn’t help myself. I would have liked to use it for a 9 inning shutout or a 12 K game, but I’m sure Cash won’t be allowed to throw more that 6 innings until next year, and I couldn't wait.
AAA – For a game that was 1 to 0 after 6 innings, this sure turned out to be an ugly loss. The Isotopes allowed 9 runs over the final three innings, with 4 of those runs coming off Geoff Geary, the newest member of the team. Starter Claudio Vargas threw 6 shutout innings to start the game, but tired in the 7th. Only 2 Albuquerque batters had games worth mentioning. Jamie Hoffmann, hitting .320 for the season, slugged his 6th homer of the year, and John Lindsay went 2 for 4 to raise his average to .382.
AA – Starter Jesus Castillo was mediocre at best, but the Lookouts bullpen was very solid and Chattanooga was able to hold on for a 5 to 4 win. James Adkins got the win with 1.2 shutout innings, Justin Miller and Javy Guerra blanked the opposition for an inning each, and Jon Huber picked up his 12 save of the season. At the plate, Dee Gordon had 3 singles in 5 at bats, and Trayvon Robinson reached base twice while knocking in 2 runs. Kyle Russell was the player of the game, however, as he homered and doubled while striking out just once.
High A – Off day
A – Ryan Christenson allowed his only 3 runs of the game in the 4th, but the Loons came back with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning and ended up with the 5 to 3 win. After Christenson threw 5 innings, J.B. Paxson and Steven Ames dominated the game for the final 4 frames. Paxson allowed just 1 hit, while Ames struck out 3 in 2 perfect innings to pick up his 11th save. Blake Smith had the best game on offense as he went 2 for 4 with a triple, and Mario Songco also tripled in the game. In addition, shortstop Bryant Hernandez drove in 2 runs with a double.
Rookie Ogden – Ogden lost in 11 innings as closer Shawn Tolleson stumbled for the first time in a long time. Pete Budkevics started the game and struck out 7 over 4 innings, and Carlos Frias allowed a run in his first relief appearance of the season. Robert Coyle and Jessie Bosnik had 2 hits each, but nobody else did much at the plate.
Rookie Arizona – Ralston Cash pitched the best game of his young career, throwing 5 shutout innings and striking out 6 batters. Even better, the Arizona bullpen was actually more dominant as it only allowed a single hit over the final 4 innings of the game. Beyker Fructuoso was the star of the pen as he struck out 5 of the 6 batters he faced. The Dodgers offense was provided solely by Tae-Hyeok Nam, who had been quite as of late. Nam singled, tripled, and drove in both runs of the game. The only other note is that James Baldwin stole his 10th base of the season.
DSL – 19 year old Giordanny Chavez threw 6 shutout innings, lowering his season ERA to 2.02, but the Dodgers ended up losing the game 2 to 1. Reliever Luis Rosano gave up the winning runs. Nobody did much on offense except for 17 year old Arce Rodriguez who had an RBI single.

Steven Ames in A ball so far:
14 G, 14.2 IP, 44.6% K/PA, 5.4% BB/PA, 59 GB%, 0.82 FIP
Me likey.
not sure how they calculate FIP over at First Inning
because I use excel that uses the actual formula, and by my calculations, his FIP is actually 0.40!

Might be a difference in the league factor, something other than 3.2.

Yeah, I tend to take FIP with a grain of salt anyway
Still don’t understand the justification for the coefficients that are used in the formula.
I hope Arce Rodriguez makes it to the big leagues
If you think Ralston Cash will provide some nice headline titles, imagine what an Arce could do.

It seems like he is starting to hit his stride
Kyle Russell was the player of the game, however, as he homered and doubled while striking out just once.
I’m very excited about this :)
