Dodgers Week 24 In Review: Changing At The Top, Sinking To The Bottom
When the Dodgers weren't busy getting steamrolled by playoff contenders in San Francisco and at home against Colorado, they made some significant news themselves. On Friday, it was announced that Joe Torre would step down as manager, with Don Mattingly taking over starting next season, with a three-year contract.
This was the Dodgers' worst week of the season in terms of run differential, as they were outscored by 19 runs in six games. The offense disappeared again, at least until Sunday, and they went 2-4 on the week. Since the All-Star break the Dodgers are 24-38, the fourth-worst record in baseball.
Dodger Batter of the Week: A.J. Ellis, who has been working with Mattingly and Jeff Pentland to shorten his swing, has seen the results of late. This week he started twice, and had three hits in each game, then had a walk-off pinch hit single on Sunday. He ended the week with seven hits, including two doubles, and a walk in nine plate appearances. Ellis led the team in hits despite being tied for 10th in PA.
Casey Blake just might have had the worst week of any Dodger this season. He had one hit in 21 plate appearances, and struck out 12 times, hitting .048/.048/.048.
Dodger Pitcher of the Week: Chad Billingsley lost to the Giants on Wednesday, but gave up one run in seven innings, so he claims the prize. Clayton Kershaw pitched a shutout, the first of his career, one night earlier, but his stinker on Sunday against Colorado nullified him from the award.
It was a rough week for a pair of relievers, as Jeff Weaver allowed eight runs in 2 1/3 innings, and Jonathan Broxton allowed nine of the 11 batters he faced to reach base.
Week 24 Record: 2-4
18 runs scored (3.00 per game)
37 runs allowed (6.17 per game)
.211 pythagorean winning percentage
Season Record: 73-77
624 runs scored (4.16 per game)
647 runs allowed (4.31 per game)
.483 pythagorean winning percentage (73-77)
Transactions:
- Saturday: The Dodgers, about an hour before their game with the Rockies, traded reliever Octavio Dotel to Colorado for a player to be named later. The Dodgers and Rockies will split the remainder of Dotel's 2010 salary ($284,153) as well as the $250,000 buyout of his 2011 $4.5 million option. Because the Rockies acquired Dotel after August 31, he is ineligible for the postseason.
Game Results:
- Tuesday: Dodgers 1, Giants 0
- Wednesday: Giants 2, Dodgers 1
- Thursday: Giants 10, Dodgers 2
- Friday: Rockies 7, Dodgers 5
- Saturday: Rockies 12, Dodgers 2
- Sunday: Dodgers 7, Rockies 6 (11)
Upcoming Week: The Dodgers take Monday off, then end their homestand with a series against San Diego. The Dodgers begin their final road trip of the season Friday in Arizona.

Rough Week
But congratulations to AJ Ellis.
Russ Mitchell has a really cool batting line for the week:
.222/.222/.889
Coolest line of the season
We’ve seen him hit the ball hard numerous times so on the surface many will think he’s had a lousy debut, but I think it has been very successful.
i've missed both of his hits
but I went back to dodgers.com for video of his one against Colorado and I have to say:
1) I thought, based on trajectory, that he hit it further than that.
2) for pulling a ball that was down and away, he hit that ball HARD.
"Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit'll come back with you."
Nice of Blake to pick up Loney like that.
So I suppose Ellis, not Barajas, will be the Dodger catcher of the future this week?

yeah, one good week is all it takes to get hopes up, but in a season like this I’ll take all the silver lining I can get. Even if him hitting singles every fourth at bat makes him a better backup catcher, I’ll take any progress I can.
On a related note, it seems like Kemp and Ethier slump at the same time and thrive at the same time. It’s kind of cool watching them compete with each other. I wonder if that was fed by them having someone else to compete with (Manny) and that led to Ethier hitting better with Manny in the lineup moreso than some notion of getting better pitches to hit or something related to that.

Monday, Monday
can’t trust that day.

Yeah, I’ve already managed to oversleep and get three emails about how I screwed up the same spreadsheet I screwed up a week ago.

I just saw that Dodger legends Joe Torre and Don Mattingly will be attending a ceremony for some team in New York today. That’s nice.
It’s a good thing neither of them have other commitments which would keep them from attending.
No wonder Joe had no problem with Kemp going to New York on an off day with his girlfriend
He’s doing the same thing.
"Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit'll come back with you."
Joe has pretty much checked out anyways. He’s already making comments as if he is no longer the manager and is an ESPN analyst or something. He may as well just let Mattingly do the job these last couple weeks.
The Dodgers are safe today
No games by the Dodgers, Padres, Giants, and Rockies.
On Tuesday…
Padres at Dodgers
Giants at Cubs
Rockies at D-Backs
The Dodgers need to win every game. This we know.
They also can’t survive a single win by either the Giants or Rockies, or the Padres, after they leave LA, at least until the final weekend.
LL Cool J says
Don’t call it a comeback
"Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit'll come back with you."
Shooting stars
First Martin was a star then a hinderance
Then Kemp was a star now an annoyance
Finally Broxton was a star, and is now a mystery
They come and go so fast.
Some of them come back!
Chad Billingsley gives me hope for the others. Martin is supposedly coming back quickly, and Ethier/Kemp will finish 2010 with a strong month and give us hope for 2011.
"Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit'll come back with you."
Martin seems like the least likely to bounce back to me. He has been pretty mediocre offensively for a while and now his one of the skills that made him valuable, his defense, may be significantly affected by this hip injury.
I have no expectations of Martin at this point. If he was a free agent he’d be scrapping for a major league contract but because he has service time left it makes it tricky.
"Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit'll come back with you."
Prior to the hip injury, I would agree that Martin, while declining from his career peak was still pretty valuable. Now, with an serious injury to his lower body and getting more expensive, I’m not sure I would take him over Ellis/Barajas. If the price comes way down, then his value starts going back up, but until then . . .
He didn't have surgery
seems the injury is being over-stated but who knows. My point, and I could easily be wrong is that if we non – tender him I’d expect him to get a very solid contract from one of the many teams who could use a catcher.
by meercatjohn on Sep 20, 2010 10:02 AM PDT up reply actions
I have no expectations of Martin at this point.
Was me thinking, “I have no idea how this injury is going to affect him, so I have no expectations and will take what I can get”.
The second sentence is just how much I would expect an offensively challenged catcher rehabbing a serious leg injury to make if the offseason were today. I fully hope he makes it back healthy and productive.
in MLB
I agree. I think the reason he’ll continue to get contracts is because he’s young and has had fairly recent success, but mostly because there are only a baby’s handful of good offensive catchers in MLB. His value relative to the field is higher than his actual value, I would guess.
"Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit'll come back with you."
oh how the stars fall
(my high school chemistry teacher said that to me once when I failed to turn in my lab book again during my senior year)
One of most frustrating parts of blogging that I've found
is that when you spend many words in support of a player based on peripherals, while others trash his actual performance, you feel stupid, when the peripherals also start to fail.
For example Broxton:
Great closer in 2008
Fails in biggest game of his career against the Phillies and literally may have cost the Dodgers a chance to go to the World Series.
Everyone hates Broxton
Bloggers defend him
Great closer in 2009
Fails again in 2nd biggest game of his career against Phillies in NLCS
Bloggers defend him even harder
Even better closer in 2010 for two months
Blows what some think was the biggest game of the 2010 season upto that point when he gives away the Yankee game
Bloggers defend him harder then ever
Starts having some chinks after the all-star game
Bloggers continue to defend him but now it seems like they are making excuses
2010 starts to unravel and he loses job to Kuo
Bloggers continue to defend him
2010 becomes a Don Stanhouse revival, where every outing is now an adventure. At this point Broxton is what Sherrill
was in April/May, where every batter has an equal opportunity to get on base and the calls to DFA Sherrill were one of
loudest voices being heard on this blog.
In the end he was a great closer who had his critics, now he sucks and the critics will crow they were always right about him. This is what I hate the most.
Kemp and Broxton have really put a kabash on my blogging enjoyment. I start to question everything I write when I get into defensive mode, because even if the peripherals may be right, in the end, they may simply start sucking because they suck.
The worst part of this for the Dodgers is that even if they planned on trading Broxton this winter he has killed his value so much, he not would not bring back anything, can you really spend $7 Million on a relief pitcher in this shape? What choice do they have, he would now be a salary dump in his current condition.
Just catching up, but Phil
this is a post, not a comment – why waste it down here?

Opening Day lineup 2011
SS-Furcal
2B-Theriot
RF-Ethier
CF-Kemp
LF-Gibbons
3B-Blake
1B-Loney
C-Ellis
P-Kershaw
Looks too much like
the 24 and 38 post all star lineup.

So, basically the lineup we have now that is terrible.
by Michael White on Sep 20, 2010 9:48 AM PDT up reply actions
I don’t either. I suspect we will be stuck with Theriot, but he’s going to try to find a better bat for left field (or first). I don’t think he gives Martin away either—and say what you will, I’d still rather him behind the plate throwing at runners than our other options. Plus I bet Kuroda gets another year before returning to Hiroshima-ken as well.

I’m with others, significant changes will occur. Not a player in that lineup I’d bet my house would be there on opening day. I’d say Kershaw, but Mattingly will probably start Padilla as an homage to Joe.
by meercatjohn on Sep 20, 2010 10:04 AM PDT up reply actions
Someone likes to go LRLRLRLR
No way Ellis is the OD catcher unless whoever is slated to start is hurt in ST and even then we’ll probably sign some older veteran to play over him.
Loney won’t hit behind Blake.
I find it rather hard to believe Theriot will be our starting 2B again.
Gibbons won’t even be the 4th OF next year, if he’s on the team. He’s a LH bench bat.
Vicente Padilla is going to start opening day again.
"Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit'll come back with you."
Theriot will be the starting 2B
I’d be willing to bet that.

We could trade Furcal
and make Theriot the starting SS so I wouldn’t bet to much.

When does the no trade clause kick in? First day of the season?
by Michael White on Sep 20, 2010 10:15 AM PDT up reply actions
I don’t know. I think Theriot is a question mark as well. If we trade someone like Kemp or Ethier, I’m sure we will be looking to get a ML ready 2B back.
I think Ned considers Theriot
a major league ready infielder at either SS or 2nd.
by meercatjohn on Sep 20, 2010 10:18 AM PDT up reply actions
I would say that odds are good that Theriot is here, but I still think there is enough question there. He will make like $5M or something, which could be viewed as too expensive.
He will likely be in the $3.5-4m range.
I think he’s a lock to be back, and starting at 2B in 2011.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 20, 2010 10:20 AM PDT up reply actions
I don’t think Ned specifically wanted him. I thought the report was that in order to get Lilly, the price was DeWitt so we needed Theriot to backfill DeWitt.
Agreed
Ned said he could have had Lilly without giving up DeWitt, but I took that to mean the prospect cost was too high.
I don’t think he actively pursued Theriot, but he was happy to get him.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 20, 2010 10:25 AM PDT up reply actions
Speaking of DeWitt

You also don’t really want to say, about a current player, “We wanted player X, but they made us take player Y to get him”.
Sounds like ‘we wanted Beckett, but had to pay Lowell to get him’.
"Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit'll come back with you."
Joe said we had to take him, but Ned disagreed Or vice versa. But they weren’t on the same page.

I wonder what the dropoff in production from Theriot to DeJesus would look like and if it’d justify the cost savings.
At $4mil I think you pay the guy to play good defense, but if you don’t make up for his bat elsewhere the offense is going to struggle at times.
"Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit'll come back with you."
The problem is that Theriot is the least of the team's problems
Colletti needs to purchase at least two SP, and that’s assuming he’s OK with Ely in the 5th starter slot, which he probably isn’t, and an outfielder, unless he’s satisfied with a XP/Reed Johnson (or somebody) platoon, which he probably isn’t.

Exactly
There are many holes, and likely not a lot of dough to fill them. I expect a major trade or two that involves pieces of the “core”.
This conversation should be turned into a fanpost
The elephant in the room in this discussion is this: Should the Dodgers blow up the team this offseason? Is there anything that can be done to turn the ship around in the 2011 season — that is, am I simply wrong about next year? What are the value of our best prospects — can they add enough, and soon enough, to turn the team around in, say, 2012, or will they need help? Is this core good enough to win the WS, or not?
We are all kicking around these questions right now, I know… imagine if your job rested on your answers. I don’t envy Colletti right now.

I think the coaching staff doesn't
and according to Frank, Ned is the master of the vertically integrated message. The Dodgers haven’t played Theriot a single inning at SS, even starting Jamey Carroll over him at SS and leaving Theriot at 2B. I think they consider Theriot a starting 2B and a reasonable backup SS, but not even as valuable a backup SS as Carroll, despite having much more experience there – 3699 innings at SS for Theriot, 1060 for Carroll and more than half of Jamey’s were this season.

Some Yankee fan at the UCLA game was trying to sell me on Mattingly. “Come on man, he is no bigger than you and me, and he played all those years crushing homeruns. he is a tough fuck, and I love him. You are going to love him, trust me.”
"We were never friends"
this guy was sensible. I liked that he threw out all BRO-NYY WS matchups and calls it no rivalry anymore. He then called me out on my 80’s Mattingly mustache and I had no more to say. I guess you can say he almost sold me.

If you’re pimping a Mattinglyesque moustache, then it is eas to see why he is trying to sell you. I can’t believe you didn’t tell him that you wear the stache bc you’re a freakin beast of a man, and then tell him you drive a Tacoma!

ROBOT NO
I guess I need to make a fanpost about this! Men grow our facial hair out in the fall and winter. It is the way it should be!
The most interesting man in the world has a beard. Our cult hero 3B has a beard. We traded away mini beard. The first picture I saw on here was of Eric with some man hair on his mug.
I am growing the full monty out right now. College football is here, Deer season is coming, Thanksgiving and Christmas are around the corner.
Leave the facial hair out of it!
Delias, grow that cookie duster back out. That is an order.

Yea, I have had the beard for over a year now. It is time for a fresh start. Don’t worry, if I don’t like the clean look, the beard can be back in less than two weeks.

when Mattingly was asked about his coaching staff, and he said something like “oh yeah, I should probably talk to Ned about that.”
Either he hasn’t thought much about it (unlikely) or perhaps there won’t be many changes so it really hasn’t been a central focus.
I do wonder about Bowa though because I know he has talked to Mattingly, but when Bowa was interviewed Friday in the span of 5 minutes said both “I don’t know what I want to do next year” and “I don’t want to manage…but I guarantee I’ll be coaching somewhere.”

Who thought on July 1st that it Sherrill would be bailing out Broxton from one of his more embarrassing outings?
Not bailing out Broxton, but I spent the better half of April to August defending the guy at every turn. I couldn’t be happier about him and hope he comes back as our LOOGY.
Along those lines, in relation to your above post about the frustrations of blogging, when you defend a guy while others scream for his replacement, what is the emotion when you’ve been proven right? Vindication, righteousness, or just some sort of inner happiness? I want to yell at all the fans who still boo Sherrill (I haven’t been to a game recently to know if this still happens) for not paying attention but I also want to yell at everyone who cheers for him for being hypocritical. Really, what’s the emotion?
i wonder how Jon feels about Billingsley’s success this season after spending what seemed like 10 months defending him with a column per week.

This year was unique
in that, with Kuo and Sherrill, the Dodgers didn’t need to acquire a LOOGY, but here is the price they have paid the last few years on a LOOGY:
2009: Ohman $1.35m (plus $200k option buyout)
2008: Beimel $2.045m ($1.925m plus bonuses)
2007: Beimel $912,500
In 2006, Beimel was a 0-3 guy

I just want to see some improvement of his mechanics. They still look terrible.

by Michael White on Sep 20, 2010 9:53 AM PDT up reply actions
I think Kemp will be traded on the cheap this winter. We will pay none of his salary and get back a fringe major leaguer like Melky Cabrera.
If we're trading Kemp, we're trading for multiple holes.
Like to Detroit for Austin Jackson, Procello, and Bosche, etc.
His value is so low you’d barely get one of those guys and I don’t even think it would be Porcello.
by silverwidow on Sep 20, 2010 10:08 AM PDT up reply actions
There is no way in hell that Detroit does that deal.
The Dodgers cannot trade Kemp for what we think he is worth. They will either dump him outright because he’s a problem (like Silverwidow suggests) or they will keep him.
by Michael White on Sep 20, 2010 10:08 AM PDT up reply actions
Some team will bet on him having a bounce back year, and I can’t see the Dodgers trading one of their only valuable(if damaged) trade chips for a one to one deal. Its going to be a volume trade because the team needs volume.
It will be a volume trade if they trade Kemp, yes, but I don’t think the players in return will be like the ones you suggested.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 20, 2010 10:13 AM PDT up reply actions
But I don’t think the Dodgers trade Kemp unless they get a deal like that, with similar amount of talent.
If there’s a team that should trade for Kemp, its probably the Marlins, because they’re close to contending and Maybin is likely not a starter and they have young talent up the wazoo.
Too bad their owners are even bigger skinflints than the McCourts are though.
But I don’t think the Dodgers trade Kemp unless they get a deal like that, with similar amount of talent.
I hope you’re right, but do you have reason to think that? Me, I have NO idea what the Dodgers think about Kemp right now. He’s been lambasted every which way in the press, he’s been benched for a time, but — correct me if I’m wrong — he still leads the team in PA. I have no idea what they think of him.

What was the reason for both the Raiders, and the Rams to leave L.A. after the 94 season?
It just seems so odd now after 16 years of no NFL football.
Rams got a deal with guaranteed sellouts in a new crib in STL.
Many different stories on why the Raiders actually left. Davis had an alleged deal with Hollywood Park to build his own place. NFL came in and said he had to share it with another team. He said no way. Deal there fell through, had too many problems with the Coliseum Commission to play there anymore (luxury boxes) and went back home to Oakland.
"We were never friends"
The Colliseum was a problem. Did the Raiders ever sell out? That stadium is way too big and with NFL blackout rules, it’s a huge issue. Colliseum commision is well connected politically and city insists that a new team to LA play in the Colliseum but teams know better. A new stadium is mandatory.

I’m not sure how I feel about this.
On one hand, he’s a half decent MLB pitcher who will dominate some days and get shelled others.
On the other hand, it probably means we offer him arbitration just to be safe, so the worst case/best case scenario is two draft picks (we offer, he signs elsewhere) or Ted Lilly (we offer, he re-signs).
I have to think there are better pitchers out there than Ted Lilly for the 8 figures he’ll sign for, but I’ll be excited that we can spend 8 figures on someone.

I have a dude in my fantasy league that wants Michael Turner.
I can have any RB he has (JCharles, JStewart, or CPortis) and Calvin Johnson for him.
I am doing the deal, what RB do you like the best going forward?
I personally don’t like Stewart going forward as the Panthers just named Clausen the starter.
I’m not sure if I’d do that deal. Turner’s groin injury was reportedly mild and he shouldn’t miss any time.
But if you’re going through with it anyway, take Charles. He has the highest ceiling, but his playing time might be a little sporadic behind Thomas Jones. Still, by fantasy playoff time, you’re going to have a beast since TJ always fades towards the end of the season.

Snelling only got those TDs b/c Atlanta didn’t want to risk Turner in a blowout. Turner is still the guy there at the goal line when healthy.

Dodgers have 5 players with 100 games this season
Excluding the strike-shortened 1981 season, the Dodgers haven’t had this few number of players play 100 games since 1948. It’s tied for the lowest number (again, excluding 1981) in the modern era (1901-present)
Another one of my stats you can look at the end of the

So this doesn't get lost, I am commenting here instead
of underneath’s meercat’s comment re blogging.
I think generally, that is going to be what happens in most cases because (as stupid as this sounds) games are still played by humans.
For instance, we have known that Matt Kemp had a serious reliance on a high BABIP, I mean the guy was hitting well above average on ground balls to LF. So this year, while his K and BB are relatively the same, his BABIP has dropped as well as his approach has been horrible for most of the year.
Can he come back, sure but we may have to adjust his ceiling because he may never get those high BABIP again.
Broxton appears to me to have lost all command of his fastball, and that may certainly be mechanical (and yes, even some lack of confidence), I think he has a better chance of coming back (see Brad Lidge who is making what his 3rd comeback now).
But in the end, I have always believed anyone who does analysis, appreciates the hard numbers and past performances because those are usually great indicators of what will probably happen but as we have seen, sometimes you have take a lot of hits along the way.
I say don’t be stubborn, accept that nothing is written in stone, and again, it’s all a game anyway.

Mattingly quotes
“He’s a guy that will give us a lot of versatility in the outfield,” Mattingly said. “He can probably play all three spots in the outfield. He’s a great kid, has a short stroke, can play all three spots out there, and is another lefty for us.”
“We want him to keep developing because we think he’s going to be great,” he said. “Manny will be there for another year for sure, but we don’t know after that. We want Xavier to keep developing so he doesn’t get stuck and waste a year.”
“We’d like to make sure he’s developed and ready to go because we look at him as an everyday player at some point.”
Seems like not much to cling to, a quote from February.

From Jayson Stark
• The Yankees and Red Sox both scored their 500th run July 21. It’s possible the Mariners might not get to 500 at all. But at their pace, they’ll finish with 513. So unless they seriously pick up the pace, they’re undoubtedly on the precipice of becoming the lowest-scoring AL team of the entire DH era. By far.

Apparently Logan White (and Dejon Watson) is out of the running for the GM job in Arizona and Kim Ng’s name is being mentioned right now either.

I always worried that Kim Ng was being treated as the minority interview candidate for these teams. I hope it’s not the case, but it’d be easy to do.
On the other hand, she gets a lot of press whenever she’s interviewed so maybe they didn’t want to deal with it? Maybe they just have an agreement in place already with someone and are waiting to announce.

there was a Marlins Nationals game, I believe, about 4 years ago
both close to last place, 95 degree whether at whatever-they-call-it Stadium in Miami. Rain delays. By the end of the game, you could literally hear the individuals clapping in the stands. It was surreal. I would LOVE to go to a game like that, just to experience the surreallness (?) of it. On a completely, absolutely unrelated note, I just bought a ticket for the last game of the season. $3 (plus fees), infield reserve!

Re: earlier talk of NFL blackout rules
If the blacked-out home game is played on a Sunday afternoon, all local stations inside the 75-mile radius must show a different NFL game during that time slot—the network typically chooses the game.
CBS 2 considers the Chargers LA’s home team and broadcasts all their games unless it’s a NFC Fox game. Fox does not consider the Chargers as LA’s home team. I don’t know how they’re allowed to make these distinctions, but there you go.
I show San Diego to be approximately 120 miles from Los Angeles- so there shouldn’t be a blackout issue.
by Michael White on Sep 20, 2010 2:19 PM PDT up reply actions
it has to do with broadcast radius though. You can pick up CBS 2 within 75 miles of Qualcomm (That’s about Newport Beach)
by Josie Becker on Sep 20, 2010 2:22 PM PDT up reply actions
It’s the originating network. Meaning CBS 2 broadcast from their Fairfax studios in Los Angeles, outside the blackout radius.
If back in the day the Raiders were blacked out, if you lived far enough north to pick up the Santa Barbara feed (like in Oxnard) you would be good.
by Michael White on Sep 20, 2010 2:25 PM PDT up reply actions
“The NFL considers Los Angeles a secondary market for the Chargers, so NFL regulations require CBS to carry the Chargers home game, unless it isn’t sold out,” said Mike Nelson, KCBS vice president of communication. “Because of the Chargers’ recent success, very few of their home games do not sell out.”
by Josie Becker on Sep 20, 2010 2:29 PM PDT up reply actions
I don’t see why that would explain LA households being blacked out from a Charger game. The blackout radius is 75 miles. LA is outside 75 miles. I don’t see where secondary markets are forced to blackout games in the event the game isn’t sold out.
by Michael White on Sep 20, 2010 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions
I may be wrong though. This stuff is about as clear as mud. S
by Michael White on Sep 20, 2010 2:35 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah, the logic is weird. I’d prefer 1) Raiders, 2) best game, distant 3) Chargers, so I’m fine with them blacking out Charger games unless v. Oakland.
I think if we throw out the word blackout it all makes sense. CBS is required to run sold out Charger games, but if it doesn’t sell out they can show whatever game they want.

I’d love to hear him on Gibbons: “Jay is special. What he showed at the end of 2010 is no fluke. He’s stronger than Crawford and healthier than Beltre. He’s signed team-friendly deals in the past but that’s over. We’re seeking a multiyear commitment from a contending team. I know A-Rod is great and all, but to be frank, I think Gibbons is more special. Maybe a lot more. Please?”

Yea thats who I have in there now
But I’ve been debating on the sole fact that I expect the Saints to go up big and then the potential carry load is more favorable to Thomas.
I’m of the mindset that you can’t bench your studs. Alex Smith is pure shit, so the Niners really have no option but to funnel their offense through Gore (i.e. he’ll catch passes, too).
I can see wanting to start PT, but San Francisco does have a pretty good run defense. Brees will be throwing all night regardless of score.

Some of you know that i got a new job fixing Iphones, and have seen some…interesting pictures on people’s phones. Most of the time a bad battery or something of that nature is why a phone won’t turn on or a part that goes bad, and it’s an easy fix, so once it’s fixed whoever is fixing your phone can see anything that’s on your phone. I think they are pretty good. They are better than Brad Schamm and Babe Laufenburg (sp?) for the Cowboys. No doubt.
Interesting comment from Joe today, reported on ESPN:
Torre told the radio station that he had been considering leaving the Dodgers for a while.
“I was very frustrated by the ballclub really spinning their wheels over the last year,” he said. “I made up my mind about a month ago and let [Dodgers hitting coach and next manager] Donnie [Mattingly] know how I was feeling, but I didn’t want to say anything until we were completely out of the race.”
While he is open to remaining with the Dodgers in another capacity, he hasn’t completely ruled out managing again.
I know he left the door open last week, but he also seemed to be open to staying with the Dodgers in some capacity. I think that comment slams that door.
I don’t think it slams the door so much. I do think he will sit back and let all the offers come in (managing, broadcasting, modeling, etc), knowing that he could probably fall back into a consultant role with the Dodgers if he wants.
