What a disappointing season this has been, for all the reasons that have been hashed out. The question is now where do we go from here?
The Core let us down. This was supposed to be the core of a WS-quality team. But after playing like a 90- or 100-loss club for a half-season or more, it's time to wonder if we're kidding ourselves. So, put on Ned Colletti's moustache, take over as GM, and ask yourself -- if you're in charge, do you blow up the Dodgers?
There are a few things to consider. First and foremost is this: Colletti probably won't blow 'em up. That would be ensuring a terrible, awful season in 2011, and he'd get fired. So this is not a prediction thread... this thread is entirely to answer one question: you must build a WS-quality Dodgers as quickly as possible, with the rough financial limitations of the McCourts that we know about.
Consider these questions -- and I"m sure there are more, this is just off the top of my head...
1) What do you think about the core? Are Kemp/Ethier/Loney/Martin good enough to be the core of a WS-quality team?
2) Do you think any of these players can be counted on to take that long-awaited step forward in 2011? Is there any reason to think that next year won't be as bad as it looks?
3) If you blow up the Dodgers, what can our ML talent bring back, realistically?
4) What's the quality of our best prospects? Can they lead the next great Dodger team to the WS? What kind of help will they need?
