Elbert to play fall ball

Spoke to someone-in-the-know today and they said that Elbert will be playing "fall ball", I am assuming they mean in the AFL

I read that he would be going to the AFL

Good luck to him. Hopefully the time off will havedone him some good, and he can reestablish himself.

Believe it or not

As much as the organization may want to rid themselves of Elbert, the team needs him. Looking around at the club, the only SPs available to start next season for the Dodgers (in a pinch) are Monasterios and Ely. Both of those guys suck. From last year, McDonald is gone, Stults is gone, and Haeger is gone. Sure, there will be some NRI crap that reports to camp, but the Dodgers will have to give Elbert a look next year as the 6th starter.

Elbert should realize this is probably his last shot. This may be the last half season where he is the only AAA SP available for a spot start. Soon, guys like Withrow, Rubby and the following year possibly Miller and Webster will be available for such a role.

considering how short the leash J-Mac was on

You’d think that Elbert would be a goner, since he’d shown a lot less at the major league level than J-Mac (even with all his struggles) ever did with the Dodgers- and that’s not even considering his disappearing act during the middle of this season. Ironically, because the leash was so short with J-Mac, and all the other reasons Mike cites, the Dodgers pretty much HAVE to give Elbert another chance. They need him as much as he needs them, if not more so. Incredible that we’ve reached this point, but there you go.

Elbert was a legit prospect

Jmac was as well, but his potential was just a MOR guy. Elbert’s was Chad Billingsley, as a lefty. Elbert was a better prospect and has been given a longer leash. The disappearance was a mental issue, which was probably something the Dodgers had some sort of say in, allowing him to leave
