Dodgers Minor League Hitting Stats - August

Following the jump are the Dodgers minor league hitting stats through the month of August, and for just the month of August.  The stats for just the month of August might be a little skewed because the Isotopes completed a game during August that was started in a previous month, and the stats got included into the month for my purposes, but not for the purposes of MILB.com.  Either way, it's not a big difference.  Also, this takes the place of my weekly hot/cold post because I just didn't have time to do both.  I'll post the August pitching stats a little later.

At least I don't have to hear from anyone

telling me Pericht is a legit prospect anymore.

Heck of a month by Silverio and Sellers.

Maybe the best thing about DeJesus as he comes back from that broken leg is that the leg has been strong enough for him to play everyday. To top it off by leading the team in at bats in Aug is excellent news.

Whoever the mystery infielder is getting called up

I kinda hope it’s someone who can play first. I’m not joining in the Loney bashing, but he’s always struggled against Zito.

When should you start to pay attention to pioneer league performance?

Lemmerman is tearing it up, but he’s 21.
I admit I’m pretty clueless when it comes to analyzing prospects

Love the 13-double month by Russell

I always wanted a kick-ass doubles hitter on the Dodgers, although I know it’s tough with Dodger Stadium as your home park. But, Brooklyn wasn’t anything special either. In the 127-year history of the franchise, here is the complete list of 45-double seasons:

52: Johnny Frederick (1929)
49: Shawn Green (2003)
48: Babe Herman (1930)
47: Wes Parker (1970)

by Eric Stephen on Sep 3, 2010 9:28 AM PDT reply actions

Loney needs 10 doubles to join the club

But his career high for doubles in a month is eight, which he has done five times, including May, June, and August this season.

by Eric Stephen on Sep 3, 2010 9:30 AM PDT up reply actions

Still he's as close to a doubles hitter as you'll get and yet you hate on him

Hate on him?

I’m a tad irritable this morning; the USC game ended too late. At least I didn’t stay up until 3am like my brother Greg.

I wanted to put a smiley face on my comment

but I figured you’d know I was kidding. Thought it was a great column and pretty much summed up the problem. I still hope he has just a good enough Sept so he can end up with an OPS+ of 105 for the season and meet those RBI numbers of yours.

Seeing Nick Akins K% ended any possible glimmer of hope I had for him.

by regfairfield on Sep 3, 2010 9:30 AM PDT reply actions

Keith Law has already said that Trayvon Robinson

is in his Top 100 prospects for 2011 and his K rate (especially compared to his HR) is certainly not very good.

Is Akins’ main issue that he is doing this in Rookie Ball (at his age)?

by bhsportsguy on Sep 3, 2010 9:44 AM PDT reply actions

Yeah, that sucks too, but I absolutely hate guys with high K rates, probably more than necassary. It’s not an unfixable problem, but it does mean that he needs more time in the minors.

Most notable prospect busts had high strike out rates to go with other great numbers.

by regfairfield on Sep 3, 2010 9:47 AM PDT up reply actions

Yes and has Reg said, his K rate

We have heard he can’t hit breaking balls. I have little expectation that Akins will hit advanced pitching.

I was doing some reading of old Baseball Abstract stuff last night

in particular James’ revised Historical Abstract and one of his pet peeves is teams drafting High School pitchers in the first round, calls them the riskiest of all picks and should be avoided at any cost.

by bhsportsguy on Sep 3, 2010 9:46 AM PDT reply actions

I remember when that was the mantra

which is why Logan said that he was able to grab HS pitchers when in the past they would have been gone. It does not seem as risky anymore, maybe because of all the innings being put on College pitchers? Does seem that when Logan picks a college pitcher he picks one who does not have a lot of innings on their arms ala Aaron Miller, Lindblom. I have no idea what he was thinking with Adkins.

FYI

in the other post some commentators were saying we should trade Loney for Gorzelanny. I was amused because I just traded Gorzelanny for McDonald. Could be a great Sept, 21 team league, four teams separated by one point, trading deadline is done. I made the deal simply based on the fact that baseball HQ likes McDonald in Sept more then Gorzelanny. Of course I made the deal before Gorz was hit by the line drive. I really need Kuo to remain the closer and for Kershaw to continue to lead my rotation.

Nyjer Morgan suspension tote board reaches 15 games

He got an 8-gamer for his craziness Wednesday night, per Heyman, in addition to the 7 he already has under appeal.

Also from Heyman:

others suspended besides morgan: volstad 6 games, sanabia 5, gaby sanchez 3, slaten 3

by Eric Stephen on Sep 3, 2010 10:02 AM PDT reply actions

8 games seems over the top, but I’ve been a bit behind on all the stories detailing Morgan’s issues.

by Michael White on Sep 3, 2010 10:03 AM PDT up reply actions

It seems like he is being punished for being a shitty guy. Which he is.

But the incident dowsn’t warrant an 8 game suspension, IMO.

He got hit once and the ball thrown behind him once. 2 other Nats were hit in the game.

by keithc13 on Sep 3, 2010 10:22 AM PDT up reply actions

That’ll teach him to try to climb out of a 10 run deficit.

He ought to get a bonus for the greatest takedown in baseball history. It’s at least on par with Rick Monday defending the flag, or Jason Romano taking down the fan at Dodger Stadium.

Can you imagine if Adam Dunn had Dunn that?

Anderson would have been blasted into the backstop. Yet plays like that are made every day in every football game. Baseball needs to man up and have more collisions. I feel for these kids who have never seen Scoscia defend home plate as though his life depended on it. Even if it was illegal it was awesoke.

After carefull thought

I think the league should get rid of the DH but add the ability for the manager to pick to use a defensive replacement who does not lose his game eligibility (meaning he can still pinch run/hit) for three innings. I came up with this idea while imagining Dunn playing 1st base. I know this would involve hiring another coach because we couldn’t possibly expect the manager or bench coach or hitting coach or 3rd base coach or 1st base coach to know the optimal times to use the defensive replacement but old players need something to do.

I just had some BBQ nachos. Pulled pork on chips with cheese and BBQ sauce and some jalapenos.

And a small side of potato salad.

It was. I’m seriously considering going back for dinner and getting the Meat Lovers Potato.

Huge baked potato loaded with pulled pork.

It is my favorite. Depending on what part of the country your in, will determine the kind of meat your getting. Texas is BBQ beef country. Beef Brisket is on hit at the place I went today. They make really good BBQ.

OT: Bad news for SC fans and LenDale White

out for the season with torn achilles tendon. Wasn’t going to play for Broncos til October anyway due to suspension, but was looking good in preseason and would’ve helped as goal line guy. Sad for him, he was excited about playing in his home town. Maybe next year LenDale.

achilles injuries do not bode well for RBs at all.

by keithc13 on Sep 3, 2010 10:58 AM PDT up reply actions

Considering? Already done ;)

The girl at work I am interested in is married unfortunately, so I was already shit out of luck. Yesterday she was walking to her office and said something, I heard her say “how are you?”, so I answered I am doing well, and my friends starts busting up laughing and tells me she said “have a good night” instead. Another classic 4down moment.
