9/3/10 Minor League Report – J.T. Wise Earns an A

AAA – The Isotopes had a lackluster game on Friday as they were shutout 3 to 0 by the Red Rock Express.  The offense was limited to just 5 singles, probably because they were playing on the road instead of in their own bandbox of a stadium.  On the mound, John Ely actually threw a pretty good game as he allowed just 5 hits and 3 runs over 7 innings while striking out 7.  I’m still expected him to rejoin the big league club once the AAA season is over.

AA – The Lookouts were leading 7 to 5 heading into the 9th inning, but the Diamond Jaxx rallied for 3 in the final frame off of Jon Huber to pull out an 8 to 5 victory.  Huber allowed way too many base runners in the 9th, although the actual winning run actually scored on Jaime Pedroza’s fielding error.  Starter Alberto Bastardo wasn’t very good, allowing 5 runs in 5.1 inning of work, but the offense and the bullpen gave Chattanooga a chance at the win.  Javier Solano threw 1.2 perfect innings before the disaster occurred in the 9th.  The Lookouts accumulated 14 this, including 2 each from Dee Gordon, Elian Herrera, Jerry Sands, Eduardo Perez, and Keyter Collado.  The newly promoted Pedro Baez also chipped in with 3 hits in 5 at bats and 2 RBI’s.  It should also be noted that Alfredo Silverio was promoted from the California League to AA to finish out the season, although he went 0 for 4 in his debut.

High A – The 66ers were shut out by the Modesto Nuts 4 to 0 as Inland Empire was only able to scratch out 5 singles in this game.  Austin Yount, who is having a terrible season, was the only 66er player to have more than 1 hit in this game.  Josh Walter was the starter for Inland Empire and lasted 5.2 innings while allowing 7 hits and 4 runs.  The bullpen very good as Thomas Melgarejo, who returned from his loan to the Mexican League, threw 1.1 perfect innings and Miguel Sanfler tossed a scoreless 8th.

A – J.T. Wise continued to scorch the ball as he went 3 for 3 with 2 more homers, knocking in 4 runs and leading the Loons to a 5 – 3 victory over the Lake County Captains.  J.T.’s dad Sunny was in town watching the game, so apparently Wise is stepping it up even more to impressive his dad.  The win puts the Loons at 88 wins for the season, and with 3 games left they are really trying to reach the 90 win plateau, which would be an amazing accomplishment for the team.  The pitching for Great Lakes was very good in this game as Greg Wilborn allowed just 4 hits over 5 innings while striking out an impressive 10 batters.  He did allowed 3 runs, but the K’s are more notable for me.  After Ji-Mo Lee threw 2 innings of 1 hit ball, Steven Ames came in and struck out 5 of the 7 batters he faced to record his 15th save for the Loons.  After the game, Ames said in an interview that his arm felt really good and that he was missing a lot of bats, so that’s good news.  Also, Ames’ FIP while with the Loons is now a miniscule 0.38, which is one of the best FIP’s I’ve ever seen for someone with as many as 27 innings with a team.

Rookie Ogden – Ralston Cash got his first taste of the Pioneer League, and while his results were not pretty the Raptors were able to come away with the 8 to 6 win.  Cash gave up 5 hits and 5 runs in just 3 innings, although only 3 of the runs were earned.  Newly promoted Gustavo Gomez ended up picking up the win, while Logan Bawcom and Shawn Tolleson were perfect for the final 7 outs of the game.  At the plate, everyone in the Ogden lineup managed at least one with, and Michael Pericht led the way with 3 singles.  Jonathan Garcia, Bobby Coyle, and Casio Grider also had 2 hits apiece while combining to drive in 4 runs.

Brandon you might have to ratchet up Wise a few notches on your C prospect list…..
I think he and Wallach are top 2 and Erickson has dropped down due to poor hitting.
Wises’s defensive stats are comparable to Erickson.
Wise may be our best hitting Catcher prospect….12hrs in 60+ game is impressive.

you are right...

it was always his age for his level that bothered me, but if he is promoted to AA next season like he should be then he’d be a lot closer to his age group. And if he continues to excel there then we might have a potential big league player

ames

to AA next year..you have to.

shit, put him in the AFL; we have one more pitcher’s spot right?

Teams are allowed to send 1 players below AA level to the AFL

and at first glace it seemed like still had that spot avaliable to fill. However, Matt Wallch actually might fill that spot since the AFL rule states that guys have to be in AA or AAA before August 1st to quality for a normal roster spot (not the 1 exception spot), and Wallach wasn’t promoted to AA until August 4th. So I’m not exactly sure if they’d be able to add a guy like Ames. But he definitly should be in AA next year

Sign Martin one more year

then go for the cheap L/R Wallach/Wise for 2012 if Martin continues to tread water. The ability of Wallach to play defense along with his LHB should give him a major league career.

sands

how does everyone feel about their ratings and comments about Sands here?

Those guys don't know what they are taking about in terms of Sands' defense...

to say “he is a bad outfielder and an even worse first baseman” is just stupid to say. At the very least he is average at both 1st base an in the outfield, although I still think he’s slightly above average at both positions. DeJon Watson specifically said that his defense is fine and that his arm is above average

Jar is full of shit

He’s just running with the crowd that for some reason thinks Sands is a shitty fielder because he’s a slugging 1B/LF/RF. Yeah, he hits for a high slugging percentage, he must be Adam Dunn…

i dont think one line tweets

or chat comments count as scouting reports. I don’t know why they’re taking Goldstein’s comments as an absolute.

I've openly questioned him about it.

I follow him and he follows me for whatever reason, so it’s not like…personal like that thread on MLB was. We disagree, it happens.
