imagine Apocalypse Now, but the Vietnamese are Africans, and the Americans are European traders
back in high school
after reading Heart of Darkness in class, we watched Apocalypse Now. When someone was chasing down some Viet Cong spy, this girl yelled out in class: “Get her!” It really set an awkward tone for the rest of the movie and class that day.
Them Asians are so racist against other Asians

How come everyone loves Boston so much? Boston, Boston, Boston!
Been watching the US Open
Carry over from last post, with Martin being moved to the 60 day DL that makes a spot on the 40 man for either Mitchell or Lindsay, who will be the other person moved to the 60 day? Since Paul is DL’d already can he be moved to the 60 day DL?
Y'know considering
this game only involves West Coast teams, and was bumped to ESPN2 my NASCAR, are we really worried about having a New York primetime start? Shoulda just started at 7, me says

It was about the ump telling Kuo to hurry up because he threw a pitch after Torre signaled for him. Ken Howell argued:
1) It’s hard to see sometimes, and he didn’t see the signal for Kuo at first
2) if the ump had a problem, he should have said something to Torre rather than bother the guy trying to warm up to do his job on the mound.
Saw this from my seats at the game last night
both the 3B Ump and the 2B Ump had stopwatches in thier right hand pockets.
After Howell’s outburst they were both timing how long it took between pitches.

Good to see Fontenot's learned the Giant Way of Patience.

The Dodgers should never throw any Giant a fastball in a fastball count. don’t do it.
I hope I can get some Manny dreads still
Joe Morgan and Jon Miller
plus ex-Giant Orel hershiser, too many ex Giants in the booth for this one!

I researched that one myself.
Taint so.
From Wiki:
“After the season, Robinson was traded by the Dodgers to the arch-rival New York Giants for Dick Littlefield and $35,000 cash (equal to $280,172 today). The trade, however, was never completed; unbeknownst to the Dodgers, Robinson had already agreed with the president of Chock full o’Nuts to quit baseball and become an executive with the company.”

Nope!
But I have a “date” later tonight. We’re meeting up at a sports bar. So we’ll see how that goes. :)
every sports bar in San Francisco is terrible. It’s been my life goal to find a beer for less than $5
Women always pay for drinks…either for the drink (for self or friends) or having to talk to the guy who bought the drink. Nothing is free.
I’m in San Jose this weekend. So it’ll be at Rock Bottom Brewery.
a man offered me his 3/4 full pitcher once, saying he was done with it. I said thanks and took it back to my table. True story.
hah, that's cool!
a man offered to buy me a drink once, and i asked him: do I have to talk to you? he said, no. I said, sure, thanks! [hm… I guess that was a free drink]
you would love him if he were a Dodger

Yes! Good point.
They are now selling those Panda hats in the discount bin.
Posey however will not be a flash in the pan, alas.
I don’t really hate him except for the reasons Teal gives.
I do know Giants fans have sometimes flipped out in their hatred for anyone good on the Dodgers so the vindictive side of me feels like I should stoop to that level too but I’ll try to be fair.
Now if the Dodgers could only draft in the top 5 one year, too, they could end up with someone like him.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
I sadly have stooped to that level
Having live in SF for close to 20 years now and also having gone to school, what is annoying most for me in most years is all of the cliche’s that many in SF use to describe the Dodgers. Bruce Jenkins loved all of the heart analogies even though he hadn’t been in the Dodger Dugout since he was a kid in LA.
Yup, I've heard it all, too, alas.
Have to learn to tune it out but it’s hard when people literally seem to hate the Dodgers, as if they were an enemy conquering nation.

Gosh, forgive me, a Dodger fan living in SF
who has had to deal with this shit here for the better part of 20 years, for being a little one sided about it. :-/
Anyway, a lot of D fans soured on R Martin so not really necessary for other fans to bash him for us. ;-) (Though in his absence this year we, or at least I, have gone to appreciate him more, all over again…)
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.

The callups
were told today. Torre was meeting with the media, in his usual daily session, when he was called away for a phone call. He said he thought it was his wife or something, but it was someone (I’m not sure if it was Ned, or Wallach or something) confirming that the 5 had been told.
Torre then came back to finish the Q&A and gave us the news that the 5 peeps from ABQ will be in SD tomorrow.
Eff you Sanchez

Drink a nice cold beer.

Q: what’s the deal with benching Kemp? A: his calves hurt (or something like that)
Q: are u using Kuo tonight? A: No, but I shouldn’t have told you that since you’re with the Giants. Reply: we’ll keep it to ourselves.

Perspective, Fuck Perspective
Broxton sucks
Andre sucks
Kemp sucks
Martin would suck if he was playing
Loney sucks
Yet because of the incredible pitching staff this team is always in just about every game.
Why the hell are Andre and Loney even playing in this game? How many futile at abats against LHP do they get? Especially a LH like Sanchez. Did Lindsey and Mitchell really need to play one more game for the Isotopes? Did they? I think not.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen

Loney/Blake dont need to play anymore.
And I dont think fans really come to see them anyways.

will be pinch hitters or maybe start some day games. Expect Loney and Blake to play most of the time especially against anyone contending for a playoff spot.

I can applaud, but for all the success the Rays had, they blew the 2008 draft by not picking Posey.

Definitely had some luck this year
Just like Ned had some luck in the past, too.
It happens.
Buster Posey was a good draft pick who they should be credited with making but also only happened because they were horrible the year before and got the #5 pick. They signed like 28 OFers during the season (exaggerated for comic effect) so you figure one or 2 would help, as well.
At any rate, they still may not beat out Padres or Rockies for that matter. But who knows.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
Huff, Torres, Burrell, Uribe have vastly exceeded expectations.
But the foundation for the Giants has always been pitching – and when you can develop Lincecum, Bumgarner, Cain, Sanchez…thats pretty darn good.
It was always if they got any type of hitting..they’d win games. Somehow their veterans all had good years…then throw in superstar like production from Posey…yeah they are good.
Whether they keep it up next year depends on recyclying some more vets.
WEirdly their pitching has been much more up and down this year than expected
but their hitting has been much better, as you said with some guys exceeding expectations.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
Well
for all the applauds given to Ethier and Kemp in 2009, it was the production by Manny, Blake, Hudson, Belliard and yes, even Pierre that were the keys to the NL best record last year.
Nor do I. I don’t understand how Ethier and Kemp are being discounted (if that’s what he’s saying) and Belliard and Pierre were keys.
by Michael White on Sep 5, 2010 7:31 PM PDT up reply actions
Really, did the both you miss what happened in Sept?
Key being that without Belliard, Oct baseball may not have happened. I’d call that fucking key.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
And to discount what Pierre did
with Blake in May after Manny was suspended and Ethier had a really bad month is also not looking at the big picture.
Didn’t the Dodgers make the playoffs by like 6 games? Saying they would have missed October is a tough case to make.
Besides, I’m still unclear as to why Belliard’s one month is key and Ethier and Kemp’s season, isn’t.
by Michael White on Sep 5, 2010 7:37 PM PDT up reply actions
one is a mail key (really small), and the other two are keys to the city, which require two hands to hold.
I remember playing a game on Saturday that we had to win
to win the division, after a week of losing every single game that Belliard did not play in.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Sure, but there spot in October baseball was well secured.
by Michael White on Sep 5, 2010 7:43 PM PDT up reply actions
After Colorado (Wild Card winner) the next closest team for a playoff spot of non-division winners was San Francisco who finished 7 games behind the Dodgers.
by Michael White on Sep 5, 2010 7:41 PM PDT up reply actions
That is the word Keith doesn't like to see used.
You want every advantage you can get. So Belliard wasn’t a key because we already had a playoff spot assured even though being a wild card puts you at a two series disadvantage?
