is that a book, a game, music, or a movie?

It's a book

I think Apocalypse Now is based on this book.

by DodgerSF on Sep 5, 2010 4:51 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah

imagine Apocalypse Now, but the Vietnamese are Africans, and the Americans are European traders

by Josie Becker on Sep 5, 2010 4:57 PM PDT up reply actions

back in high school

after reading Heart of Darkness in class, we watched Apocalypse Now. When someone was chasing down some Viet Cong spy, this girl yelled out in class: “Get her!” It really set an awkward tone for the rest of the movie and class that day.

Them Asians are so racist against other Asians

Have you ever tried just turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?

Been watching the US Open

Carry over from last post, with Martin being moved to the 60 day DL that makes a spot on the 40 man for either Mitchell or Lindsay, who will be the other person moved to the 60 day? Since Paul is DL’d already can he be moved to the 60 day DL?

The Dodgers have 39 players on the 40-man. They only need to make one move.

eric – find an answer to my question?

by delias man on Sep 5, 2010 5:13 PM PDT reply actions

It was about the ump telling Kuo to hurry up because he threw a pitch after Torre signaled for him. Ken Howell argued:

1) It’s hard to see sometimes, and he didn’t see the signal for Kuo at first
2) if the ump had a problem, he should have said something to Torre rather than bother the guy trying to warm up to do his job on the mound.

by Eric Stephen on Sep 5, 2010 5:17 PM PDT up reply actions

interesting. I never saw an incident like that before. good work.

by delias man on Sep 5, 2010 5:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Saw this from my seats at the game last night

both the 3B Ump and the 2B Ump had stopwatches in thier right hand pockets.
After Howell’s outburst they were both timing how long it took between pitches.

From Wiki:

“After the season, Robinson was traded by the Dodgers to the arch-rival New York Giants for Dick Littlefield and $35,000 cash (equal to $280,172 today). The trade, however, was never completed; unbeknownst to the Dodgers, Robinson had already agreed with the president of Chock full o’Nuts to quit baseball and become an executive with the company.”

I do know Giants fans have sometimes flipped out in their hatred for anyone good on the Dodgers so the vindictive side of me feels like I should stoop to that level too but I’ll try to be fair.

Now if the Dodgers could only draft in the top 5 one year, too, they could end up with someone like him.

by underdog on Sep 5, 2010 5:38 PM PDT up reply actions

I sadly have stooped to that level

Having live in SF for close to 20 years now and also having gone to school, what is annoying most for me in most years is all of the cliche’s that many in SF use to describe the Dodgers. Bruce Jenkins loved all of the heart analogies even though he hadn’t been in the Dodger Dugout since he was a kid in LA.

Yet because of the incredible pitching staff this team is always in just about every game.

Why the hell are Andre and Loney even playing in this game? How many futile at abats against LHP do they get? Especially a LH like Sanchez. Did Lindsey and Mitchell really need to play one more game for the Isotopes? Did they? I think not.

Definitely had some luck this year

Just like Ned had some luck in the past, too.
It happens.
Buster Posey was a good draft pick who they should be credited with making but also only happened because they were horrible the year before and got the #5 pick. They signed like 28 OFers during the season (exaggerated for comic effect) so you figure one or 2 would help, as well.
At any rate, they still may not beat out Padres or Rockies for that matter. But who knows.

Huff, Torres, Burrell, Uribe have vastly exceeded expectations.

But the foundation for the Giants has always been pitching – and when you can develop Lincecum, Bumgarner, Cain, Sanchez…thats pretty darn good.

It was always if they got any type of hitting..they’d win games. Somehow their veterans all had good years…then throw in superstar like production from Posey…yeah they are good.

Whether they keep it up next year depends on recyclying some more vets.

by Joey Joe on Sep 5, 2010 7:23 PM PDT up reply actions

WEirdly their pitching has been much more up and down this year than expected

but their hitting has been much better, as you said with some guys exceeding expectations.

by bhsportsguy on Sep 5, 2010 7:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Well

for all the applauds given to Ethier and Kemp in 2009, it was the production by Manny, Blake, Hudson, Belliard and yes, even Pierre that were the keys to the NL best record last year.

by bhsportsguy on Sep 5, 2010 7:26 PM PDT up reply actions

I dont think Belliard or Pierre were the “keys” to anything.

by Joey Joe on Sep 5, 2010 7:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Nor do I. I don’t understand how Ethier and Kemp are being discounted (if that’s what he’s saying) and Belliard and Pierre were keys.

by Michael White on Sep 5, 2010 7:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Really, did the both you miss what happened in Sept?

Key being that without Belliard, Oct baseball may not have happened. I’d call that fucking key.

And to discount what Pierre did

with Blake in May after Manny was suspended and Ethier had a really bad month is also not looking at the big picture.

by bhsportsguy on Sep 5, 2010 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Didn’t the Dodgers make the playoffs by like 6 games? Saying they would have missed October is a tough case to make.

Besides, I’m still unclear as to why Belliard’s one month is key and Ethier and Kemp’s season, isn’t.

by Michael White on Sep 5, 2010 7:37 PM PDT up reply actions
