Trent Oeltjen coming up Tuesday
Per Tony Jackson.
To get him on the roster, they will probably put Xavier Paul on the 60-day DL.

Over/Under 7.5 homeruns for Kemp and Ethier combined the rest of the year
I’m going under.
Also, Over/Under 12.5 homeruns for the entire roster the rest of the year. I’m honestly thinking under.

Gotta love the optimism
This team can’t hit it’s way out of a paper bag :(

If we were stuck in a paper bag
We’d just get KKadilla to shoot a hole in it to get out. No need to swing a bat in there.
I messed up my list last thread
1. Vin Scully
2. Bob Uecker
3. A bunch of folk who passed on
4. Jon Miller
5. Others
Good call
Never actually heard Bob Uecker call a real game, but his Major League 1, 2, and back to the minors made me love his calling of games :)

I don’t know where the conversation is. They seem to take place in multiple threads at the same time.
40 man roster
So who is coming off the 40 man roster to make room for Lindsey and Mitchell? My guess is Martin to the 60 day DL but that still leaves one person coming off.
BTW
my prediction of 30,000+ for tonight’s game will not be correct. Apparently the fans just are not supporting this team.
This also has to be a reflection of the dodgers suck

True
San Diego Padre officials probably wish they had the Dodgers over the weekend instead of on Labor Day.
Coverage for a ravaged east coast Dodger fan
I believe that I tend to be a bad sport when the team is not doing well—-but I am getting old and I am spoiled. Each decade; the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, the Dodgers flashed terrific years mostly with great pitching. Now, I was looking forward to a great team based on a consistantly good farm system, but in a few short years—that is gone and we have very little to show.
.
Anyway, tonight I can’t get the game except for a few insulting flashed on some MLB network
that stinks and switches game aimlessly. But it shows the Padres are bad and sometimes 2/3 of a season can’t show that.
.
I hope some of my friends out west, and I really fee.l close to a lot of the people I have met on DT and TBLA because technical difficulties ruined DT’s chance of any continuity
are as upset as I am. I think it’s close to time to boycott tickets in this embarrassing situation.
I realize that the team did not make the World Series in the 2000s
but they made the playoffs 4 times which is more than they did in the 60s, 70s and equal to the times they did it in the 80s.

BUT! I played on Thursday, and went under par on a hole! 128 yds, first shot on the green about 12 inches from the green! It was my second time out on the green.

but inches is small than a foot, so saying “inches” makes the distance from ball to hole appear smaller.

It’s moments like these that make one want to come back.
A little advice, Go to the course and find the professional. Write him a check for the cost of at least 3 lessons.
It could cost you up to $150.00. If you want to continue to play and get better, it is money well spent.
Congrats on the shot. That is awesoke.
I really want to take up golf, but I imagine you need like a group of golf buddies before you start hitting the greens
To SF?
Me too, but it’s impossible when 100 show up for an open house with only one room available. It’s just insane trying to find housing in SF.
Plus, LA is pretty bitching when you’ve got a car, so I could see myself just staying down here

I will add that there are probably two areas that frustrate fans more than others
1. Bullpen blowing leads
2. No offense.
That is what this team has done since the ASB.
3. Playing crappy veterans.
Fans are more forgiving if youngsters are playing.
With this Dodger team…it is what it is.
I still doubt that last one
because the ones who attend the games don’t follow that stuff too closely.
that’s so true. No one came to watch the Rocket lose in Rookie of the Year, but then they signed the kid with the broken arm, and everyone wanted to watch him throw wild pitches
Classic
But I still wonder how they won the World Series without both the Rocket and the kid pitching in the playoffs.

Dodgers in the 2000's
BH, you are one of the guys who make these sites so good and informative. A few years ago I looked at the times the Dodgers led the division in ERA. I wish I saved the results but it must have been since the division existed and maybe included the previous western scheme when Atlanta and LA were together. At anyrate, in the early decades the Dodgers usually led the team ERA at least four times a decade. What really gets me is that the Dodgers have a market that is somewhere between 4 and 6 in baseball—and may be better!
Why do we deserve the three stooges up front!
Well I'm off to get some ice cream for my dad
I’m sure once I leave the Dodgers will go on an offensive rampage.

… and since a little while ago he was talking about Fernando…
I once went to a game where Fernando had a line drive like a laser hit right back at him. He caught the ball and in a continuous motion with no hesitation whatsoever, whirled around and doubled the runner off 2nd. It was one of the coolest plays I ever saw. I told my buddy sitting next to me that that play by itself made coming to the game that day well worth it, no matter what else happened..

Why we lost this year
Completely random thought but when I saw the Lindsey photo on the top and looked like our old friend Orlando Hudson. Towards the end of last year he lost most and what seemed like all of his playing time to the hot Belliard. Much of it he deserved.
However, if memory serves me many thought that Hudson especially in the playoffs deserved a few more starts. Hudson’s last AB for the Dodgers was the HR in the last playoff. Many thought Hudson as a contributing vet was screwed, could this season be reverse karma?
it does seem like we're suffering from a karmatic black hole
whether it’s from last year or the McCourts and all their financial debauchery …

What sucks is unlike 2005
this team DOESN’T suck, as far as having much more talent than that team, but they are playing like SUCK, and so there’s really no difference ultimately. More frustrating in a way.

Absolutely
That is what has been so frustrating this whole year, especially the second half. A team with a fair amount of talent, with an excellent starting pitching staff, but never with management having a sense of urgency.
Got love that proactive managing
2nd and 3rd two out your team is struggling and you have extra players and you don’t PH for Asmus? Charlie’s reason is the lefty righty split….Only good thing if Dodgers lose the Giants don’t gain.

Definitely non-tender Sherrill after the season, right?
Can’t pay him the $4-5 million he’d get in arbitration.
I am fairly sure that Torre is going to play this series without using the call ups
unless it goes to extra innings.
At least they're pulling a major league salary for a month.
Sadly, that’s probably equal to at least 2 or 3 minor league seasons, at least for the ones not previously on the 40 man roster.
Only if someone gets on, of course
Otherwise Loney doesn’t come up, and pitcher’s spot would lead off
Could also double switch Gibbons into LF for Pods

? I mean they also weren’t out of the race, given how bad the Padres have been playing they could easily have gotten back in it if they hadn’t played like suck. But I also think to the average fan if they’d done nothing at the deadline given the divorce PR, it would look bad and they wanted to prove he wasn’t cheap. That he could take on salary.
Big whoop, as it turns out. But we’re not the “average fan” here, remember…

Ivdown, I'm guessing you didn't budget for that
when you set the over/under on Dodger HRs for the rest of the season.
Kemp for Rasmus?
This has probably already been discussed, but would you do it?
Kemp has more upside, but Rasmus is cheaper.
Not sure Kemp has more upside
But I would trade Ethier for him, I think TLR would love that shit.
Fuck Larry Bowa in 1980
I really doubt the Cards FO would do it. For some reason La Russa hates Rasmus, so maybe if he stays as the manager they’ll move him.
Fuck Larry Bowa in 1980
And me and Rasmus hate LaRussa, so send him to my team and everyone's happy!

I dont think Ethier for Rasmus helps the Dodgers.
Sure, Rasmus in CF would be nice.
But that means Kemp would go to RF…and Ethier as a RF>>>>> Kemp as a RF.
HUH?
Ethier is downright AWFUL in RF, Kemp would undoubtedly be an upgrade in RF.
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
Maybe defensively, but offensively Ethier is still very superior to Kemp.
This offense is really bad..making it worse by getting rid of Ethier doesnt seem like it’d make the team better.
depends
if you think that this Kemp is the real Kemp…

One concern I have with Kemp – besides sliders – is his size. No way he’ll be able to keep playing center.
Agreed.
Any decent CFers on the free agent market this winter? I wouldn’t mind moving him to LF for next year and actually having a plus OF overall defensively
Yep, Kemp in RF, Rasmus in center would be nice. :)
It’s nice to dream…

Personally, I’d rather find someone who can mash in right field and move Ethier to left.
Finding a big bat in center is really tough.
Ellsbury?
I’ve also wondered about Ellsbury for Kemp. Just like Rasmus, he doesn’t seem too happy in Boston. I think Ellsbury is overrated, but interesting to ponder.

Remember Chad last year. He wasnt horrible, but wasnt good. Broxton and Kemp fit under similar ideas. Most gave Chad the benefit of the doubt(at least people here), and we should do the same for both Kemp and Broxton..

Good thinking
Both of them deserve at least one year (Broxton is a FA after anyway, and I figured he’d leave as a FA rather than being traded no matter how good he was) after 2010 before any rash moves are made.
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
I'm in that camp really
I’m certainly not ready to get rid of Kemp (and doesn’t sound like the Dodgers are either). Broxton I’m not giving up on either but agree wth the above sentiment that relievers are more replaceable and if they fetch a good position player in return it’s tempting.

I think tomorrow’s lineup should be all non-2009 Dodger players, even if that means some plays out of their usual position.
Sure:
Catcher: Rod Barajas
1B: John Lindsey
2B: Ryan Theriot
SS: Chin Lung Hu
3B: Russell Mitchell
LF: Jay Gibbons
CF: Scotty Pods
RF: Reed Johnson
P: John Ely
Hu played in 5 games last year
Have to go with Carroll at SS
It's not going to happen
Even if I think some of those guys should get a shot, Joe will not do it. Also, these games matter, playing the Padres etc so there’s the fear of perception around the league that they’d be folding instead of trying. Now you and I may say, but the regulars aren’t doing jack so what’s the problem? But that’s the reasoning and it’s not happening.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
But they did do the right things that inning
with 2 strikes, the ground ball to first and then with 2 strikes the sac fly.
C – Barajas, 1B – Lindsey, 2B – Theriot, SS – Carroll, 3B – Mitchell, LF – Gibbons, CF – Pods, RF – Johnson?
Lol at that lineup
Let’s do it! No, not tomorrow (Kershaw’s going tomorrow), let’s wait until Lilly or Padilla’s next start, haha.

Yes indeed
And has been the problem for oh 2 months now.
The starting pitching’s been fab. The bullpen’s been iffy. But they wouldn’t have needed to be better than great all the time if the hitting showed any kind of competence at all. Broxton is far from the main problem, though he’s been A problem.

Ah, list I was looking at had him at Type B
But it’s from August 22nd, so I guess that’s changed
Anyway, after Lee, Crawford, Werth, Dunn, and Vazquez,
there’s no one on the Type A list I’d pursue. And I don’t think we’re going after Lee, Crawford, or Werth, and Dunn only if Loney is traded (unlikely). That just leaves Vazquez, and I’m guessing they’ll pursue Lilly instead (who I’m not counting since he doesn’t cost us a pick to resign), and they’re not picking up 2 pricey pitchers.
I completely forgot about Vazquez
I want to get him if it will cost near the same as Lilly.

He's looked way better than I expected in pre season
Don’t know if you saw any of his action but he made the typical rookie mistakes and still needs to improve his footwork to adjust to pro defenses, but also showed glimpses of what could be. Frankly, I’m far more excited about him than I expected to be. But fortunately (if he stays healthy knock on wood) Broncos have Kyle Orton who looks about as good as he ever has.
