MiLB Dodger Update 9/6/10

Isotope season over

Lookouts lose 8 - 0, David Pfeiffer got a rare start, and showed why he gets a rare start giving up seven runs in five innings. Javier Solano continue his fabulous season with two more shutout innings. The real 20 year has now struck out 74 with only 13 walks between his stints in the offensive California League , and the advanced Southern League. Other then Rubby/Jansen  I don't think anyone has had a more impressive season then the real 20 year old. He may be a relief pitcher but he's notched 64 innings this year.

Since collecting four hits on Sept 1st, Kyle Russell has struck out an absurd 12 times in his last 21 at bats, including three games of three strikeouts in his last five games.

The Lookout season is now over.

Mercilessly the Inland Empire season is over.  Fittingly they lost 11 - 4 as Cody White probably pitched his last game in the Dodger organization. He gave up eight runs in 2 2/3 innings. Preston Mattingly hit a home run in hopefully his last game in the Dodger Organization. You have busts and then you have Mattingly who has yet to get above A ball. No big deal from many drafted players but it is big deal when you were a supplemental 1st round pick, who was considered a huge reach at the time of the draft. Has Logan White ever drafted an impact hitter within the first three rounds of any of his drafts? It would be hard to argue that Blake DeWitt or James Loney are impact hitters.

Great Lake Loons finished their superlative season on a down note getting drubbed 7 - 1. BCG was finally held hit-less but the hottest hitter in the system picked up two more hits. J Wise ended his brief Sept with a 1.357 OPS and 9 runs batted in, in only 21 at bats. Wise had a dreadful start to his Loon career but was so hot in the 2nd half he moved his pre all-star game OPS up 200 points in the 2nd half.

The Loons had the best record in the minor leagues and will be trying to win the MidWest League Championship starting Wednesday against Fort Wayne. On Thursday be sure to check the updates because we should have a link with the broadcast in which you will be able to ask questions about your favorite current and past Loons.

All of our minor league teams got pasted on Labor Day, and the Raptors were no exception, getting clobbered 13 - 3. The Raptors will be the only Minor League team still playing out the regular season this week, the playoffs start for them on the 10th.

How far away is JT Wise from being a close to the majors prospect?

Seems a catching prospect to keep an eye on soon….

How he does in AA will determine his future

hard to do any conjecturing until he shows his chops, while eating chops in the Southern League.

Mmm...chops...

Sounds about right. He is 24 now so as a 25 year old next year I’ll be curious to see how fast he moves at that point. One of 5 catchers drafted in 2009 and now I’m glad they did!

I don't mind older catchers moving slowly

through the system. So many decent catchers show up in the majors after 26 years old.

True and one of them can be his backup

when he reaches the Dodgers and becomes their starter, in Old Man Ellis. ;)
