Week 13 of the NFL system marked the end of the True Blue LA Survivor pool with Pure Azure being the last competitor standing. I must admit that Pure Azure successfully employed a strategy that I generally try to stay away from. Instead of jumping on the Patriots early on in the season, Pure Azure had the patience to hold off until late in the season and ended up finding the perfect week to use New England. The Patriots were an astounding 20.5 point favorite over the hapless Colts. I did a quick google and Twitter search and was unable to find any example of a 20+ point NFL underdog winning the game outright, and history was not made this past weekend. Despite looking to have the game well in hand, the Patriots did make the game interesting as the Colts ended up pulling within 7 points at the end of the game with a chance for an onside kick. The kick did fail and the Patriots and Pure Azure held on for the victory.
Albany10 ended up in second place and made a pretty solid pick in a losing effort. The Bears were an 8.5 point home favorite against a Kansas City Chiefs team that's not particularly talented. But the Bears came into the game missing their quarterback and when they lost star running back Matt Forte early in the game the Bears were unable to mount any offense. The only touchdown of the game was a Chiefs hail mary pass at the end of the first half.
This marks the end of the 2011 True Blue Survivor Pool. It was an impressive survivor pool (I'm choosing to ignore the week 5 craziness) which lasted late into the season. Thanks to everyone for playing and congratulations to Pure Azure.
