Does

Ethan Martin carry an asterisk if he is Rule 5 eligible

by bhsportsguy on Dec 5, 2011 11:16 PM PST reply actions

not sure if you saw when i posted it

but Baseball America confirmed that he is not eligible. The cutoff for a player being considered “18 years old” in his draft year is not when he signs, but on June 5th of the draft year. Martin was born June 6th, so he was still technically 18 in the year of his draft, giving him that extra year before he needs to be protected. Had he been born on June 4th, he would be eligible

by Brandon Lennox on Dec 6, 2011 8:16 AM PST up reply actions

Kudos to Mama Martin for bearing down and carrying him that extra day.

Or for not bearing down and carrying him that extra day.
