Dana Eveland To Baltimore: Dodgers Go To Jarret, Looking For Diamond In Rough
With just over three years service time, Dana Eveland is arbitration eligible this winter. The Dodgers won't be the ones going to any hearing with Eveland, though. The Dodgers have reportedly traded Eveland to the Baltimore Orioles for minor left-handed league pitcher Jarret Martin and outfielder Tyler Henson, per Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. and Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com.
Eveland, 28, was a candidate to be non-tendered on Monday, December 12, the deadline to tender contracts to pre-free agency players. And that was before the Dodgers signed Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang (though Harang is not yet official), giving the Dodgers five starters signed through 2013 with Nathan Eovaldi, Rubby De La Rosa, and Allen Webster waiting in the wings.
After excelling in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, Eveland was called up in September and had a nice run of five starts with the Dodgers. Overall he was 3-2 with a 3.03 ERA with the Dodgers, including 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA on the road and 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA at Dodger Stadium.
Martin, 22, was 5-12 with a 4.96 ERA in 31 games, including 18 starts for Class A Delmarva in the South Atlantic League in 2011. He was an 18th round selection in the 2009 draft by Baltimore. In two minor league seasons, Martin has walked 5.9 batters per nine innings while striking out 8.7 batters per nine innings, completing the lefty-righty set of Wild Martins with Ethan Martin, who is two months older than Jarret.
Henson, who turns 24 on December 15, hit .247/.313/.321 in Triple A in 2011. He has played mostly the corner outfield spots in the last two years, but has also mixed in time at third base, with as many as 68 games at third as recently as 2009. He also has played shortstop, but only a few games since 2007.
This move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the Dodgers, who have yet to make the Harang signing official.

This day will forever be known as a massive change in Los Angeles sports.
Let the Jarret Martin era begin.
Since Harang isn’t finalized, there’s a chance the medicals will come back shitty right? Right?

What’s the big deal, he got two bodies but the bodies are still bodies. We are impressed because he got two warm bodies that will still amount to zero instead of getting zero in the first place?

I’m sure all the TBLA Clipper fans are happy about Pujols landing in Anaheim, since they’ll be rooting for the Clippers in two sports now.
I think he means you're now officially rooting for the two "shitty LA teams"
meh. Dodgers will better than the angels by 2014.
I doubt it, as I recall ishXdavid is a Clipper fan so I don’t think he would mean it that way.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
A Clipper fan wouldn’t come out and say we are shitty but since he’s a Laker fan it now makes sense. I thought I’d seen his handle on the Clipper board but I must have been mistaken.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
I am a Dodgers fan.
The Dodgers are shitty.
in no way was that an attempt to be clever.
my point is that most reasonable fans are able to see whether a team is good or not. a team’s shittiness is completely independent of my feelings toward that team.
Dodgers will better than the angels by 2014.
This is the season for faith, no matter what the facts say.
Got to love the new battle cry – 2014
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
We'll be effed if that apocalypse happens next year after all.
Then we won’t get to see that contending year happen!
Well, also the world will have ended which will suck for other reasons.

Ok so if the Marlins double down and try to get Fielder then Gabby Sanchez might be made available. Would the Dodgers have enough to get him? And, what would something like that take? Or is Morales going to be made available from Angels?
Face it
We aren’t getting anyone good.

So do the Cardinals now have an assload of money to spend on other free agents?
This may be better for the Cards in the long run…
None of those free agents are as good as Pujols. What do you do now? Overpay Jimmy Rollins? Really overpay Edwin Jackson?
Minor League Central @mlcentral @andrewngrant
um, duh...?
My point is that you might be able to afford Beltran, Oswalt, and one other decent piece for the same price as Pujols.
And that will probably be worse than Pujols.
Even then they don’t have room for Beltran.
Minor League Central @mlcentral @andrewngrant
and FWIW
if you added WAR of Oswalt, Beltran, and one other ~2-3 WAR, you’d probably equal Pujols next season.
FWIW
I qualified my statement with “FWIW”
Big decline last year and had injuries. Considering the market for pitchers you can’t be upset with something like 3/40 since he will make your rotation better, but I wouldn’t go to four years.

Angels not trading Trumbo for reasons only known to Jerry DiPoto (they’re dumping Kendrys)

Right?
All they got out of it was one world series championship…
Surprise
Dave Cameron doesn’t like it:
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/angels-sign-albert-pujols/
You’d think a man who had a brush with death wouldn’t get too worked up about how a contract will look in 2018.
it’s not clear that they’ve actually improved their ability to contend during the time when Pujols still projects as an elite player.
No, wait he’s just being dumb.
Minor League Central @mlcentral @andrewngrant
Explain how Dave Cameron's leukemia has anything to do with the Albert Pujols signing.
I’m very curious.
Wonder if his judgment is slightly clouded by it being the Angels and all.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
HAHA
signing CJ and Pujols doesn’t improve their ability to contend? ok.
Watch me all in flames, on a butterfly I ride
I mean I can kind of see where he’s going that they won’t be able to re-sign other players because of this but he’s ignoring that the Angels are dumping 30 million in dead weight next year and Vernon Wells goes in 2014.
I guess if there were no plans to expand payroll at all and if the contracts weren’t backloaded into 2015 this would be a problem but it’s not. He’s just trying to show that he’s smarter than everyone else by saying that Pujols won’t even help them now.
Minor League Central @mlcentral @andrewngrant
yep
Abreau and Torii will be off the books, and their currnet production won’t be that hard to replace. Wells, yeah, nuf said. The question is where the payroll ends up in 2015, does it go back to 2010 levels or stay high. I’m guessing it goes back down.
Watch me all in flames, on a butterfly I ride
This doesn't really upset me that much because I think Wilson will be overpaid/overrated but...
RT @jorgearangure: CJ Wilson just said on Sportscenter he preferred to sign with Dodgers if they had been a suitor. He likes the NL and area

Tampa Bay should be all over Kendry Morales.
Trumbo is going to be a 3rd baseman.
When your outfield can’t hit, the best solution is to field a slugging infield.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
no
scoiscia himself has said that when pitchers who give up more fly balls and not many grounders to 3rd pitch they might play trumbo there

Too bad it's outside of NedCo's creativity to find a way to trade with Angels there
(and then trade our medicated 1st baseman to someone else)

wow. Thats a lot of money. Angels did good I think by getting CJ for under 80 and for 5. Wow.

For any lawyers out there how can this be: “However, under a previously undisclosed provision, the contract also hampers the Dodgers’ ability to form a regional sports network after the contract expires so long as Time Warner Cable, Comcast or ESPN is an equity partner, according to the people familiar with the agreement.”
I would think that once their contract was over they would not be able to control what the Dodgers are able to do.
pretty standard is many kinds of contracts
by Hollywood Joe on Dec 8, 2011 9:25 AM PST up reply actions
But how, or more to the point,
who would sign a TV contract and agree to a non- compete after the contract was over?
They call me the thread killer
You know, if I could have picked two guys for the Angels to sign that would excite Angels fans but bury the team, it might have been Wilson and Pujols. Not only is Albert out of the NL and out of our hair, he’s going to bog down our regional rival with a ridiculous contract. My day could only get better if they sign Beltran and Aramis to 3 year deals
Honestly
I was 8 years old the last time we won the World Series, which deluded me at a young age into thinking that we would always win or at least contend. If the Angels go all-in and win one World Series in the next 5 years and suck the next five, I would take that in a heartbeat. I remember when the Jacksonville Five were on the cusp of their debuts, I was salivating at the thought of an early-2000s Yankee team, but now with only Billz and Loney left (on tenuous ground at that), the specter of the mid-2000s Indians looms above.
I guess what I’m saying is that I’ve gotten used to dying with this team every season, so I wouldn’t mind management saying we’re going all out for a championship now.
It's "just" 2 years
