Twins, brilliant!

I was wondering what team might take advantage of the Yankees' situation, and it looks like it will be the Minnesota Twins. Yes, the Yankees need another starter, desperately. But, more than anything else with the way the Red Sox line-up is sooooo heavily LH, the Yankees could really use a really good LH starter. And the Twins let it slip today that they just might be willing to give up one of the premier LH starters around in Francisco Liriano.

While this might be viewed as too big a gamble for the Twins going into this season, and yes it would be a gamble, they have the Yankees right where they want them. If they truly make Liriano available, they can take the Yankees for whatever they want. Montero, Joba and two or three really good pitching prospects (and the Yankees have a couple that are really legit) would be an outrageous price, but I'm guessing the Twins could get that and even more.

The Dodgers were in no way shape or form, even without the McCourts, in a position to take advantage of this, and I knew that, so I had no hope of them getting in on this. But, it will be fun to watch someone do it, and the Twins are as good a team as any to take advantage of this situation.

Also, this will eliminate one thing that I was concerned about. If the Giants struggle this year like I believe is really possible since some of their young pitching was ridden hard last playoff season, I thought they could probably unload Zito's contract if he had a decent first half and might do the Yankees what the Twins may be doing and take them for a ton for Sanchez if the Giants struggle midway through. I know the Giants' struggling would be a good thing, but I'd hate to see them benefit from their struggles. This eliminates one possibility of that happening.

Go Twins, take Cashman for everything you can!
