One thing I've learned since joining this site is more about arbitration and team control. I have always wondered why Piazza was traded. Did it have something to do with him being eligible for free agency? I was looking at his years on baseball-reference and it looks like he would have been up.

One thing I don't understand though is how he made 600k his second year. Kershaw is in his 3rd year and going for less than that.
