There was also a mixup

Spring training notes said yesterday that the KABC radio game tomorrow is the Angel game, while the spring broadcast press release said the Giant game is the one on radio.

I am trying to clear that up, but one game will be on KABC 790 tomorrow and one game will not.

I will be pissed off if it’s not the Angel game.

thats a ton of games. is not being in florida part of the reason for fsw broadcasting more games? seems like the last couple of years we’d only get mostly weekend games on kcal..

Last year the Dodgers broadcast 14 games. The year before, they had a few, but several online only broadcasts, including Kershaw hitting a home run on his 21st birthday.

I wish the Giants did not train in Arizona. Come to think of out, as much as I like the Dodgers in Arizona it was nice that when we were in Vero Beach we never played the teams in our division. We already play them so much I’m sick of em.

Going again this spring and am missing the Dodgers after being able to see them twice the last couple years.. I do get to go the dbacks new facility, which Im looking fwd to..

1. Loved the 10:00 games, helped make work go faster before the internet.
2. As I said, I love them being in Arizona, just don’t like them playing the Padres, Giants, Diamondbacks, Rockies.

Not because of any competitive disadvantage

I assume since the time of the division realignment, the Dodgers were the only team not to train in Arizona and it didn’t seem to make that much difference when they played in the season.

Do you not like them playing those teams because they already play them 18/19 times in the regular season

by bhsportsguy on Feb 25, 2011 2:58 PM PST up reply actions

Yes

I liked to use Spring Training to play teams we never see again.

see the University of Illinois can play the Cubs and the White Sox. The University of Washington plays the Mariners. But the University of California? How come they can only play the Giants and A’s? There are other teams in California! And they are way more awesome : )

Dodgers To Skip Garland’s Turn

OT but my visiting mom and stepdad just arrived to drop off

a bunch of boxes from their garage that are my stuff, from waaay back. SOme of it is sports memorabilia, baseball cards (I already had the best ones of those in an album up here), a bunch of old Sports Illustrated mags (as well as Mad Magazines, woo hoo!) Anyway, have to figure out what is worth keeping. Will keep stuff related to Dodgers or other of my teams. Toss or donate some of the rest, Any other way of telling what is worth something as far as mags and such go? Search ebay?

For baseball cards, depending on when they’re from, I may be willing to take them off of your hands. I’ve been trying to collect four cards of every former Dodger major leaguer (not necessarily in a Dodger uni) for a while now. I’d be happy to pay a little something for a bunch of commons and then sort through ‘em to fill in some of my holes (TNWSS). As for the value of the cards, you can usually find a Beckett at any magazine rack, but anything old of real value, you’d probably already know about.

If I was rich I would be just like Floyd Mayweather

His latest tweet:

Steve Nash and the Suns put in 24mins of work to get me paid.

First half score: Phoenix 60, Toronto 42.

Fill me in here: Did he bet 30 grand and win his money back plus $27272.75?

by silverwidow on Feb 25, 2011 10:46 PM PST up reply actions

I'm not much of a gambler

but I’d guess it was a 2:1 bet, and the difference was the juice. So he bet 30k and won 60k (including his bet), minus just shy of 3k.

by EMDarrow on Feb 25, 2011 10:54 PM PST up reply actions

It was 11:10, or -110.

For every $11 bet, you can win $10.

Confidential to Phil Gurnee

While I have never been asked to update, change, alter, or spin a Wikipedia page, and while I have no firsthand knowledge of such happening, I also have no doubt that (a) it happens, and (b) there is a genuine art to it; go too far and the community will reverse the changes.

Not a bad 3rd quarter

Kobe 18, Clippers 17

A millisecond away from a 20-point quarter (dunk just after the buzzer).

11 points from passing Elvin Hayes for #7

Lineup hints for tomorrow

from Gurnick:

at SF:

First baseman James Loney, catcher Rod Barajas and left fielder Marcus Thames are the regulars on the travel list to play the Giants.

at Angels:

Kuroda will be accompanied to Tempe by first-string outfielders Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp, platoon outfielder Jay Gibbons and platoon catcher Dioner Navarro.

Infielders Casey Blake, Rafael Furcal and Juan Uribe were accorded the veteran perk of skipping the first bus trip, and will make their game debuts on Sunday at home against the Angels.

by Eric Stephen on Feb 25, 2011 9:31 PM PST reply actions

soooooo then

any chance Sands is in the giants game tomorrow?

There is always a chance on road trips, especially when there is a split squad.

by Eric Stephen on Feb 25, 2011 10:01 PM PST up reply actions

that's why i'm curious

two, or maybe three, of the regular OFs are playing in the Angel game. Maybe TGJ is in CF in the giant game, but then who is in RF? Paul? Hoffman? Why not the Sandman?

I would bet money on Paul starting one game, unless he’s hurt.

true

but they never stay in the whole game right? at least not this early

Sands will get his reps. This isn’t like a guy they pulled out of minor league camp to fill in for a game, they invited him to major league camp for a reason.

yeah, that's what i mean

i just wonder if gets some tomorrow. It would be cool if he did, I will be listening.

Kinda sucks I won’t be able to hear Rubby.

Really good game in Portland on ESPN (vs. Denver)…now in OT.

Brandon Roy hit a 3 with ~6 seconds left to tie it.

The Brooks Kieschnick school of staying on a major-league roster.

by Nolij on Feb 25, 2011 11:05 PM PST up reply actions

Not the best school to attend

seeing as it bought him what, two seasons? Though I guess at that point, two seasons is two seasons more then he’d have gotten otherwise.

by EMDarrow on Feb 25, 2011 11:07 PM PST up reply actions

A career OPS+ of 93 and ERA+ of 95. You’d think he should have been able to milk that versatility for longer. I always liked him from the day I saw that CWS game between Texas and Wichita State where he and Darren Dreifort both pitched and hit home runs in the same game. That was pretty epic.

by Nolij on Feb 25, 2011 11:27 PM PST up reply actions

Looks like the game was June 7, 1993. Trying to track down the box score now.

by Nolij on Feb 25, 2011 11:36 PM PST up reply actions

Yea I was surprised he didn’t hang around for longer too. If nothing else he seems like he’d have been an ideal 25th man.

Loved the Brooks Kieschnick story

He hit 2 HR in a game against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium when he was with the Rockies. Followed him ever since.
