Dodgers Second To Second City, Twice

The Dodgers dropped a pair of Cactus League affairs today, 6-1 to the White Sox at Camelback Ranch, and 4-3 in 10 innings to the Cubs in Las Vegas. It was the second consecutive Sunday that the Dodgers lost in walk-off fashion in the 10th inning to the Cubs. For those keeping track, that makes seven straight losses for the Dodgers, who are now 5-14 this spring.

Notes

  • After Saturday's game, the Dodgers reassigned Jon Huber to minor league camp. That brings the total number still in big league camp to 56 (26 pitchers, 30 position players), but expect several cuts in the coming week as the regulars start to extend themselves and minor league games start.
  • Hiroki Kuroda pitched the longest outing of the spring so far for the Dodgers, lasting six innings against the White Sox. He also got tagged with four runs, including a home run to Omar Vizquel.
  • Rubby De La Rosa started the game in Vegas, and struck out two in his two scoreless innings. The 2010 Dodgers minor league pitcher of the year allowed just one hit.
  • Matt Kemp played the entire game in Vegas as designated hitter, his first complete game of the spring, but was also hitless with two strikeouts.
  • Andre Ethier also played his first entire game of the spring, as he was the DH at Camelback Ranch. He walked once and struck out once in four plate appearances.
  • Jonathan Broxton pitched a scoreless inning against the White Sox at Camelback Ranch. He walked one, but that baserunner was erased on a double play.
  • Matt Guerrier allowed four of the six men he faced to reach base, two via walk, but also picked off Lasting Milledge, and allowed just one unearned run
  • Josh Lindblom allowed a hit and a walk in the ninth inning in Vegas against the Cubs, but didn't allow a run and struck out two. He has four strikeouts and two walks in two spring innings so far.
  • Jerry Sands doubled in the eighth inning against the Cubs, and in 23 spring PA has a .522 OBP.

The Dodgers return to the relative normalcy of playing just one game per day tomorrow, as they travel to Surprise to face the Rangers. John Ely, vying for the fifth starter spot, gets the start for the Dodgers, and will be followed by Blake Hawksworth, Kenley Jansen, and Lance Cormier.
