Dodgers Preparing for Padres

The Dodgers begin a short six-game homestand Friday night, facing off first with the San Diego Padres. Phil Gurnee's team preview on the Friars from earlier this month can be found here. The Padres are 9 - 16 this season so far, a .360 winning percentage that makes them the current NL West cellar dwellers.

The Padres offense is struggling. According to Eric Stephen, in their last ten games they have scored 16 total runs, winning the two games in which they scored five runs, and losing eight games in which they scored six runs total. Also according to Eric, since the Dodgers last saw San Diego, the Padres are 5-12 and have scored a mere 2.24 runs per game.

Oh, Andre Ethier will try to extend his 24-game hitting streak, against a left-handed starter.

The pitching match ups for the weekend series:

Friday, 7:10 P.M., Clayton Richard vs. Ted Lilly

Saturday, 7:10 P.M., Tim Stauffer vs. Hiroki Kuroda

Sunday, 1:10 P.M., Dustin Moseley vs. Jon Garland

ABQ beat writer Chris Jackson on Mitchell, per MSTI
Mitchell, for all the griping, is your best bet defensively. No, seriously, the guy is a good fielder at 3B. His bat is starting to come around here. I realize his September callup was a dud, but he’s someone you’d root for if you got to know him.

Give him a shot. I’d rather he get a few starts out there instead of sitting on the bench. Maybe he’ll get lucky and swing into a couple balls. Miles coming off the bench is a comforting thought.

Some new info on Frank McCourt and MLB

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/27/the-dodgers-have-selected-a-new-security-chief/

Rick Wemmer, the new head of Security at Dodger Stadium is the father of one of my methods instructions. Anyway the big news I took from Rick Wemmer’s son is that the Dodgers (and Frank, I assume) already picked Wemmer to be the security chief in the off season, but MLB dragged out the appointment and wouldn’t give the okay until recently.

So, the Dodgers and Frank McCourt gets hammered in the papers for not having a head of Security, that was used as one of the reasons to take over the Dodgers, but it was MLB holding up the appointment. Also shows that the Dodgers knew MLB was going to go and do something, maybe not seize the team, but they were already under Financial overview of MLB since this off season.
