A few weeks ago I took a look at how Matt Kemp almost always gets off to fast starts. So now I'm going to take a look at what he does from games 21 - 40.
First 20 Games
Year PA Hr BA OB% Slug% OPS 2006 75 7 0.318 0.36 0.667 1.027 2007 56 1 0.431 0.464 0.529 0.993 2008 69 1 0.273 0.304 0.439 0.743 2009 83 3 0.306 0.386 0.556 0.942 2010 96 7 0.294 0.354 0.586 0.940 2011 84 4 0.411 0.488 0.644 1.132 Career 0.289 0.340 0.477 0.817
Games 21 - 40
| Year | PA | Hr | BA | OB | Slug | OPS | Diff |
| 2006 | 87 | 3 | .263 | .356 | .434 | .790 | -237 |
| 2007 | 89 | 4 | .339 | .373 | .643 | 1.016 | +23 |
| 2008 | 86 | 2 | .325 | .365 | .468 | .832 | +89 |
| 2009 | 87 | 1 | .250 | .310 | .375 | .685 | -257 |
| 2010 | 88 | 1 | .269 | .352 | .397 | .749 | -191 |
| 2011 | 87 | 3 | .263 | .356 | .434 | .790 | -342 |
He produces during his 21 - 40 stretch, but over the last three years about a negative range of 191 - 332 points in OPS off from his fast starts. One thing I noted, his OBP% had little variance from .352 - .373 if you throw out one year. Interesting because he had two years of .260 average and two years of .320 average and yet his OBP will still within a 20 point range.
Anyway I know within a small segment like this it is all SSS but I find the numbers interesting.
