My Javy Guerra story
My good deed of the day, perhaps of my life..ha ha….At the game yesterday (Sunday) in Loge Aisle 3, some lady asked to borrow my binoculars. She says her son was just called up from the minors and wanted to see if that was him warming up in the bullpen. I asked who he was and she said Javy Guerra. He was up and down in the bullpen a couple of times and come the 9th, didn't look like he was going to get in because Elbert went back out to the hill.....then just before he was about to start, they called in Javy. We had already started walking toward the exit and planned to sit further down the line to get a jump on traffic once the game ended.
First pitch was fouled back and caught by some guy a few sections over. I walked over and offered him $60 (all I had) to buy the ball and explained why. He gave it to me for free and I walked over to where Javy's mom was sitting and presented it to her. Shoulda saw the look on her face! Very proud. And she was such a sweet lady.
I was listening to his post-game onfield interview and he had mentioned that Barajas tossed his strikeout pitch that ended the game into stands but the other players quickly retrieved it so he has a nice momento of his first MLB appearance. I got a good chuckle because I knew he actually had 2! His very first pitch and the very last pitch of his major league debut.

Hopefully, the first of many balls worthy of saving!
Although these kinds of moments remind me of the story of John Paciorek, whose career line I stumbled upon as a kid reading through the Baseball Encyclopedia.

Always amazing to look back on Paciorek.

he was my baseball coach
when I was in elementary school. he never mentione his career to any of us….
You mean he never gave you the speech?
I was in the Show for 21 days, once. It was the greatest 21 days of my life. You never touch your luggage in the show — somebody else handles your bags. It’s great. The ballparks are like cathedrals, the hotels all have room service, the women have long legs and brains — it’s a smorgasbord. The women are hot, yeah — and so are the pitchers. They throw ungodly breaking stuff in the Show — exploding sliders.

Nice story
Also nice work to get the baseball, and nice and trusting of that gentleman to give you the ball.
