Rubby De La Rosa Up, Lance Cormier Out
The Dodgers have completed their set of 2010 organizational players of the year today, calling up last year's pitcher of the year Rubby De La Rosa to join last year's player of the year Jerry Sands. To make room for De La Rosa, the Dodgers wrung out the mop of Lance Cormier, designating him for assignment.
In 40 innings this season with Chattanooga, De La Rosa is 2-2 with a 2.92 ERA, with 19 walks and 52 strikeouts. He last pitched two innings on Saturday.
The final tally for Cormier: 13 2/3 innings, 27 baserunners, 17 runs (15 earned), seven strikeouts, 9.88 ERA, $800,000.
On the field tonight against the Astros, Andre Ethier and Rod Barajas will sit again. Jerry Sands, who played the final three 2 2/3 innings in right field last night, gets his first start in right field tonight, with Jay Gibbons in left.
J.A. Happ is 3-5 with a 5.30 ERA in nine starts starts this season, but in his career he is 6-3 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 starts in Houston. Chad Billingsley gets the call for the Dodgers, hoping for some support. In his last five starts, Billingsley has a 2.92 ERA and has averaged 6.8 innings per start, but he is 0-3. The Dodgers have scored three runs in Billingsley's last four starts.

What minor league starter other then Rubby is closest to the majors?

Closest in proximity?
Eovaldi is closest if you want more relievers and white noise pitchers. I think despite being in Hi-A, Allen Webster is closer to being a quality MLB starter.
No Rafael Furcals were hurt in the making of this video.
Why do you like Webster more then Eavaldi?
going just off teh stats, Eovaldi is basically putting up almost the exact same line as Rubby

Having only two pitches hardly ever (like, never) lasts as a starter because it’s that difficult to get through a lineup a second and third time.

I agree that the vitriol can get overboard, but at the same time those moves are usually the very easiest to remedy, which is why it’s so frustrating when a seemingly simple move doesn’t get made.

Agreed on both counts
I mean Cormier is both a terrible pitcher and very far from what ails the Dodgers right now. However, imho Rubby is going to pitch, he’s not going to sit in the back of the pen and then wait for a blowout. The pen needs some, er, relief desperately with all the injuries and some overuse. Also, Rubby will be fun to watch. Not just more fun to watch than Cormier, which isn’t saying much, but in this depressing-ass season, we look for something, anything to follow that gives us signs of hope and give us excitement. I don’t see anything wrong with that aspect of it at least.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
Can someone tell Gibbons that it’s okay to wear his new contacts in the field tonight? That dude scares the hell out of me every time a ball is hit to him. The phrase “routine fly ball” has no meaning when he’s in the field.

09 AZL season review
Rubby De La Rosa|RHP|20
16.1 IP/6.06 ERA/1.71 WHIP/2.89 FIP/22 K/11 BB
Still a project, De La Rosa had a solid 2009 that was cut short when he was sent home with disciplinary issues. Those issues aren’t thought to be a long term problem, so Rubby’s development should continue next year as planned.
I know most people don’t associate a 6.06 ERA with “solid”, but he did flash the dominance that I would expect from a guy with a plus fastball. His breaking ball and command could use work, but anybody that can touch upper-90s deserves to be followed.
This is an earlier one, date stamp 8/19/09
Rubby De La Rosa|RHP|AZL|20-He’s the same age as Danielson, but he’s a lot more raw. Fortunately, he also has a much higher ceiling. He registers in the upper-90s at times, but his control and breaking pitches could use work. His ERA is 6.06, but his FIP is 2.89, and he is striking out 12.12 per 9. Another one to follow for me.

this one from 7/25/09
Rubby De La Rosa|RHP|AZL|20-Explosive fastball with the potential for two plus breaking pitches. The problem is his command, though he has plenty of time to adjust and correct himself. How many teenaged Dodgers have touched 98? Hong Chih Kuo, maybe?
He looks terrible now, but he could be special, and I think that’s what you want from your Rookie-league guys. It’s easy to draft players who are a safe bet to be mediocre, but you want a bunch of guys who could be stars.

Mattingly: Rod Barajas is available for #Dodgers tonight in an emergency
Per Tony Jackson:
Barajas is better, but it sounds like Mattingly going to take advantage of off-day Thursday and not bring him back until Friday.
