Dodger Minor League Review : Trayvon Robinson Walks Off
Minor League Player of the Day – Trayvon Robinson only had one hit but it was a big one so he gets the honor.
AAA – Trayvon Robinson hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the 10th to give the Isotopes and Merkin Valdez a 7 - 6 victory. Major League refugess, IDJ, Ellis, Mitchell, and Hoffman all collected two hits a piece. Sands could only find his way to one knock. Valdez deserved the win with two scoreless innings, striking out five with zero walks.
AA –El Camino Real's Savage won his seventh game behind the solid relief work of future Dodger's Shawn Tolleson and Aames. Savage went 6 2/3 giving up two runs, and the boys finished it off with 2 1/2 scoreless innings. Tolleson is no longer striking everyone out but he's also not letting anyone score having given up only one run in his five appearances. Alfredo Silverio once again paced the offense with two hits. Alfredo has a 1.053 OPS in his last ten games. For the season Silverio now has 31 extra base hits, with his 10 triples just jumping out at you. My apologies to Kevin Goldstein.
HiA – Wilborn blew a fine start by Andres Santiago as the Lookouts lose 5 - 3. Santiago gave Wilborn a 3 - 2 lead in with two outs in the 7th but by the time the 9th was done Wilborn had given up three runs in his 2 1/3 innings of work.
LoA – Loons were crushed 20 - 2. Nuff said
DSL – Phil don't do DSL

Colleti Quotes
Regarding Sands
He said the adjustments Sands needs to make in his swing are “a small fix. He doesn’t need a makeover, but he needs to do it and make it part of what he does.”
Regarding Broxton
Colletti cited the 18 disabling injuries as a contributing factor, particularly for its impact on the bullpen, which has suffered five of those injuries. Included is closer Jonathan Broxton, whom Colletti said might be back later this month.

If we do go into sell mode, add the Brewers to the teams who might be very interested in either Furcal or Carroll. Sounds like they are close to giving up on their crappy SS.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
They just got that crappy SS. They don’t have any real prospects to send back, but I’m not sure either Carroll or Furcal would warrant such prospects in return. Just pick up the tab and we’ll call it square.

Speaking of good players on shitty teams, Jose Reyes might have a better shot at winning MVP than Kemp. If Reyes keeps putting up his numbers (.340/.387/.519 with 19 doubles, 11 triples, and 20 steals) and then gets dealt to a contender, he could get a Shannon Stewart bump.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 11, 2011 11:09 AM PDT up reply actions
Ha Ha
that would solve that.
Matt Kemp and Reyes might be having one of the better season for a non contending team in a while. Just talking off my head, nothing to back it up with.

I don't think they would give it to him over kemp or votto at this point
imo
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
Because Shannon Stewart won the MVP that year?
"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great."
Now but he somehow got 4th place because he was given credit for the Twins comeback to win the division, when he shouldn’t have received a single 10th place vote.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 11, 2011 12:56 PM PDT up reply actions
I remember it well, but I’m not sure it makes your Reyes point. Manny and CC both got a chunk of votes (Randy Johnson too maybe?) despite only 2 months in the NL their trade years. If either had done so in the same league what they did in both leagues, we’d be looking at comps. Has any MVP ever been traded midseason?
"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great."
I’m saying if Reyes continues to play well, but for a contender, he will absolutely get a bump (I’m assuming NL only here), just like Stewart did.
Only midseason-traded award winner I can think of is Rick Sutcliffe in 1984.

That story also comes with a fuck you to the Dodgers
His catcher in Caracas was Guillermo Rodriguez, who is a minor-league catching instructor for the Giants. He asked Vogelsong, “Have you signed with anybody (for 2011)? Do you want me to call the Giants?”
Vogelsong told Rodriguez he’d been trying to get back with the Giants since they traded him in ’01.
The Giants didn’t call Vogelsong right away. The Dodgers did, and made him an offer. Vogelsong asked Rodriguez to contact the Giants again and relay this message, in essence: I don’t want to be a Dodger. I am a Giant. If you want me, I’ll sign for whatever you want to pay me.

Two 15-team leagues. Which seems to make sense.
And perhaps no divisions just the top five teams make the playoffs. Which seems to make less sense, as the only American sports league that does anything like that currently (that I know of) is the MLS and no one watches soccer except for me.
Anyways, here’s the link.

@3_2count
the issue there is MLS’ strict salary pool. Players aren’t usually aren’t bought by individuals teams, and even in the case of the DP, David Beckham could have made what he made over five years over one year in England. But he supplements the hell out of his income with advertisements.

Tampa and Miami are most likely out. They’ve both had MLS franchises and they both failed, and traditionally their support for the USMNT is eh. Atlanta just seems tacked on, but I imagine they’d try and do something inside the Georgia Dome. St. Louis makes sense, with Kansas City bringing in the soccer fans from Lincoln (USMNT hotbed) hopefully inspiring St. Louis to turn up. Phoenix has the latin population going for it, and they could play at UoP stadium.

He is hitting .343/.494/.702.
His wOBA is .502!
That’s in the territory of names like Ted Williams and Lou Gehrig. If he keeps this up it will be the greatest non-Bonds year since Mickey Mantle.
@3_2count
He’s falling fast. June hasn’t been kind to him so far. Hasn’t had an extra base hit since the end of May. With that said he’s still walking a ton.
Even with the incredible slash line I was surprised to see he only has thirty extra base hits. 20 HR’s, 9 doubles and 1 triple. The power of the walk again.
So pretty similar to what he did last year
just with about +100 points of BA.

Well he’s walking A LOT (22.2% BB%) and has a 18.3% LD%. Plus when your HR/FB is 26.7%… you’re probably hitting the ball pretty damn hard.

But as regfairfield says, the Bautista of 2010 and 2011 is a completely different player than the Bautista of before that.
