As expected, Hong-Chih Kuo was activated from the disabled list and A.J. Ellis was recalled from Triple A Albuquerque before today's finale with the Astros. The Dodgers placed Rod Barajas on the 15-day DL with a sprained right ankle. Barajas had his foot in a boot this morning. To make room for Kuo, the Dodgers optioned Ramon Troncoso to Triple A.
Barajas and Dioner Navarro have combined to hit .201/.245/.336 this season. Those two have combined for 12 walks in 280 plate appearances this season. Ellis, by comparison, has12 walks in his last 65 major league plate appearances. Ellis was hitting .307/.482/.426 with the Isotopes this season.
Kuo was placed on the disabled list on May 11 with an anxiety disorder, as he had the yips for the second time in his career. After a few weeks of throwing in Arizona, Kuo pitched in four games rehab assignment, with both Single A Rancho Cucamonga and Triple A Albuquerque. During the rehab assignment, Kuo allowed two baserunners in 3 2/3 innings and struck out seven of the 14 batters he faced.
