Kenley Jansen Placed On DL With Irregular Heartbeat; Josh Lindblom Recalled

The good news is that Kenley Jansen is out of the hospital after spending two nights for observation with an irregular heartbeat. The bad news is that the Dodgers placed the relief pitcher on the 15-day disabled list today. To take Jansen's place on the roster, the Dodgers have recalled Josh Lindblom from Double A Chattanooga.

It is the second DL trip this season for Jansen, who previously was on the shelf with right shoulder inflammation. Since returning from that DL stint, Jansen has been amazing, pitching 16 consecutive scoreless innings, with seven strikeouts and 26 strikeouts. Jansen picked up the save in Tuesday's win over Colorado.

Lindblom had his contract purchased on May 29, and made his major league debut three days later against the Rockies. His first stint in the big leagues lasted three weeks, and consisted mostly of low leverage situations -- among Dodgers relievers this year, only Lance Cormier and Ramon Troncoso had a lower average leverage index. Lindblom appeared in eight games and allowed two runs and 13 baserunners in 10 2/3 innings.

In 33 games with Double A Chattanooga this season, Lindblom was 1-3 with 16 saves and a 2.18 ERA, with 14 walks and 51 strikeouts. Since Lindblom was optioned last month, he allowed two runs in 17 innings for the Lookouts (a 1.06 ERA), with three walks and 18 strikeouts.

Lindblom and Jansen have been linked all season. Lindblom was promoted on May 29 when Jansen went on the DL, then when Jansen returned on June 18 Lindblom was optioned back to Double A. Today marks the third Jansen-Lindblom transaction this season.

Lindblom is one of 11 different relief pitchers to pitch at least 10 innings for the Dodgers this season.
