TBLA Softball game?
Anyone down to have a TBLA baseball wiffleball, softball game this summer? It seems like a good way to enjoy the sport without the despair of a sinking 2011 Dodger team. If anyone's truly interested post it here with a position/equipment you have available. Where and when can be decided based on who's willing and able to get it to work out. Even to those who couldn't play, we'd need managers/umpires. We'll need some softball stuff.

2. Mintxcore
3. Nolij
4. jrock247
5. Nolander

this sounds fun
but i would think a wiffleball game would be more inclusive to everyone (phil really old, remember?)
Don't forget the other old fogies like David Young and iiidown
Then again they’d probly forget where the game was anyway :P
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
i got one bat and one ball
i can buy more balls (or trade one of our prospects for some).
i think the key is to pick a date, suggest a few places, and then go from there. My vote is sunday would prolly be better than a saturday, I could scout some parks in culver city thou others may know better places.
I vote for a Sunday as well
Seeing as I have them off, lol.

Wiffleball is a picnic game not something you spend an afternoon doing. Organize a picnic, the games will follow. So far you have suggested hardball and wiffleball, while it would appear that softball would be the correct game.

I may be willing to embarras myself
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view--until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.
I'm with Phil
what needs to be organized is a TBLA Cookout, part of that event being a softball game. You’ll need a park in a central location, safe neighborhood, that has BBQ pits.
This can be had at the Rose Bowl area or even at Eagle Rock Rec Center

Taylor this is your fanpost but it has been decided that a softball contest will take place.
a. Under 40 against Over 40
b. Only members who are members RIGHT NOW are eligible to play
c. Should be on a Sat/Sun that the Dodgers are not home so Eric can play
d. BH must cook something
e. Fists of Karim Garcia must cook something
f. HJ must cook something
g. Josie must not be allowed close to flames or hot items
h. Robot may come but if if he starts talking umpire goobly gock he’s out of here
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
a) would result in a game of 6 on 40

It's better that i not organize this anyway
Since i am only 17 and will probably not get people to listen to me.

I’m so behind the times. Had no clue this was being bantered about. I would be favorably disposed to something in the Eagle Rock/Pasadena area. I have … exactly one 20-year old softball glove. Would love to see it used again.
Just to warn you all, I can’t field for crap. Might be able to get some wood on the ball, at least, but I’m just a crappy singles hitter, if anything.
In other words, count me in!

Should we change the dates to something in October, or should we see what the turn out is looking like for this?

Depends, how is the signup coming? We should be able to do this, even if we can’t get 18 players we can have a team catch for themselves (16) players. Or open it up to friends of those who want to play. I’d check with Eric and see if he will commit to a Sunday the Dodgers are on the road. And make that the date, everyone else will have to work around it.

every fun outing needs an over competitive dick to ruin it for everyone else….I won’t be that guy but might peg him with an errant throw
Sundays are tough for me, I play baseball most of them and my wife takes the rest
If we play at Shady Rest Park up here in Mammoth I'm in for the over 40 crowd
The ball flies about 15% further up here at 8000 ft so even Humma could be a power hitter.
What me worry?
No, I couldn’t.

Softball Update:
Looks like Kevin is going to get us a field in Pasadena / Eagle Rock area
Food and softball.
Based on registered info and input info we should have a good group.
Ivdown, IIvdown, Maddz, G Scott, Michael, Brandon, GrimJack, HJ, Lex, Topdeck, Jrock
Eric, Aj, Julio, David Young, Josh, Taylor, Phil,Josie, Matthew(Nolij), Kevin, NoLander, Mintxcore, Nate
Aug 21st so far seems to be a good date.
Not sure if Nolander can make that date. Need to put pressure on Xeifrank and Reg
Looks like the 21st might be the best option.
Team One
Moderators:
Eric, Phil, Michael, David, Brandon, Xeifrank
+
Kevin, Maddz, HJ
against field?
IvDown, IIvdown, G Scott, GrimJack, Lex, Topdeck, JRock, Julio, Josh, Taylor, Josie, Nolij, Aj, Mintxcore
If Reg shows up he has to play for the moderators
If Bhsportsguy is going to play he has to play for the moderators
THis is fluid.
Just a suggestion.
Maybe we do go 35 over against 35 under
but that only works if HJ and Xeifrank show up, otherwise it would a mercy rule early.
Either way, should be a fun day of food and fun. Also bring some hardballs to see if anyone
can hit 93 down the middle.
Silverwidow where art thou?
Good time for some lurkers who think we are a bunch of nerds to show us what they got.

For the record, the only postion I could play is 3rd string back up catcher. I’m more the Tommy Lasorda mangerial type. No knees, can’t throw more than 50 feet, but great at inspirational stories and motivational speeches. In fact, I don’t even think I have a glove anymore, and I threw out my cleats last year.
Baseball is a game, and games are supposed to be fun.
You should have seen this guy trying to motivate me back when I played
If only he’d been sent down for Orel and never gotten the chance because of it, he could have been a great replacement for Tommy in the 90s :)

As long as it doesn’t conflict with our improbable BCBL playoff run. I say “improbable” because the team didn’t win a single game last season, and now we’re 6-2 on the verge of clinching 2nd place. Of course, you and I weren’t on the team last year, so we can walk a little taller.
I’d be shocked if I’m able to play

I pitched to Matt Kemp, and all I got was this stupid earned run.
Just put my name in, for the 21st or 28th. Since we’re leaning toward the 21st, I will reserve that one with the missus.

Families invited?
Quick question – Can we bring along the family? I mentioned this to my wife, and she thought it would be fun for her and the kids to come watch me make a fool of myself … Some of you have already met my daughter (last year at the TBLA game); she doesn’t mind if you swear and stuff, don’t worry. Just a thought. Thanks.
I already swear all the time, am anticipating foul-mouthed kids by high school.
But, thanks, I’ll bring them. Definitely count me in.
And, sheesh, I forgot that I’ve actually pitched softball before. So, there’s that.

If nothing else, there will be an eleven man outfield. Just like T-ball!
Baseball is a game, and games are supposed to be fun.
10 guys on the field and
a lineup were everyone hits would be better IMO. So if you have 13 players 3 are on the bench each inning but they still have a spot in the order. This could be good for the old guys as they may get tired in the outfield but then they can rotate out for an inning and then go back in the next or however they want to work it… haha
rotating 10 and batting a full lineup is fun
13 people playing the field sucks

Taylor / Kevin - Let's make it the 28th
Now we need to start working on the food, teams, time.
If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them.
Where : Somewhere in Pasadena / Eagle Rock – Robot will provide info / directions
When : Aug 28th
Time : Probably late afternoon – 03:00 I’m thinking
Food: Pot Luck, we will have a Google Doc Sign up Sheet
Main Game: Softball
Secondary Games:
Photo Opp’s : Everyone will get a chance for a Uribe Glad Hands Photo Opp
If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them.
My hope is to get the field right below a shaded area of tables and BBQ’s. I am thinking we could just reserve the BBQ area from 5pm on….game time will probably not start till 3:30, and it will be totally chill. I hope to have solid details on reserving the field and space today

Equipment
I have bats, balls, bases, and the mat for the strike zone. All anyone needs to bring is a glove, and if any girl wants a fast pitch bat, I don’t have one.
I would also recommend we use ASA type only bats…none of the stuff that can kill

Field Update
Pasadena (Brookside Park)— We can’t permit this field unless we did it 30 days in advance
Eagle Rock Rec— There field is available at 3pm. If we wanted it from 3-5pm it would be 25/hr plus a $10 transaction fee…so $60 for 2 hours. If we go after 5pm on a Sunday it is $45/hr after that.
So, we could just do the $60 for the 2 hours of the game (I will be there early to setup right away…and I doubt we would want to play much longer.
But if we don’t want to pay for a permit, we can just show up at Brookside and hope for the best. I have never had an issue there unless there is some huge event at the Rose Bowl and they are using the fields for overflow parking.
Thoughts?

Field Update 2
Looked at the forms for the permit, emailed him back.
Because we are just playing for fun as a group, we can just show up for the fields and play on a first come first served basis. There are 3 fields at Eagle Rock Rec, so we should be good to go just showing up to play.
Should I check about reserving a section for a BBQ?

My fear of having our group screwed out of a diamond
Lead me to prefer making the reservation anyway. No idea what it’s like in Eagle Rock these days, but in the SFV, the diamonds were always crowded with reserved groups. Our softball team used to always have to make reservations for practices on weekend afternoons.
@davidyoungtbla - The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.
I have practiced here numerous times, and I have never seen another team playing on a Sunday afternoon. There is a group that uses that diamond from 9-3pm for hardball…I am thinking about just going early (2:15 or 2:30) to stake it out and grab it.
