Rubby & Dee, Back Together Again
In Philadelphia 54 days ago, Rubby De La Rosa and Dee Gordon each made their first major league starts, each contributing in a 6-2 win over the Phillies. Today, both are reunited again as they each start a new chapter in their major league career. Gordon is back with the Dodgers for his second stint, filling the void at shortstop left by the trade of Rafael Furcal to St. Louis.
De La Rosa's new chapter is minor, as he has remained with the big club since he was promoted on May 23. However, today is Rubby's first start with his new uniform number of 41. De La Rosa was doing very well as number 50, averaging nearly a strikeout per inning with an ERA, FIP, xFIP, and SIERA in the mid threes. In his last five starts, De La Rosa has been even better, with a 2.03 ERA to go along with nine unintentional walks and 27 strikeouts in 31 innings. Today is Rubby's first appearance against the Diamondbacks.
Joe Saunders has faced the Dodgers twice this season and has lost both games. He allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings on May 13 at Dodger Stadium, and allowed four runs in six innings on July 15 at Chase Field in Phoenix. Juan Rivera and Matt Kemp each homered off Saunders in Arizona, and Rod Barajas took Saunders deep back in May.
One day after trading for Jason Marquis, Arizona made another move for a pitcher, sending first baseman Brandon Allen and relief pitcher Jordan Norberto to Oakland for reliever Brad Ziegler. Steve Gilbert of MLB.com has the details.

I voted Kemp
But I think Gordon could actually do it.

wow
the padres got a perfect haul….
those pitchers would have just been average in the AL and in that texas ballpark…
but in the NL and in SD ballpark, the numbers those 2 might put up will be funny…
great deal for the padres..
Not only that
But a non-closer. That with the fact that they got a 3+ WAR player already this season with Cameron Maybin and they turned their superb bullpen into a massive haul combined. Their GM is doing wonders.

I’m disappointed he wouldn’t move, but no ill will towards him. He’s a great Dodger, and Ned gave him the no trade. To the extent the no trade was a deal breaker in his K, then it is what it is.
At least Adams is there for 2.5 more years.
But you know, reliever.

I just think the loyalty thing was overplayed
it was personal comfort and his code of honor. I’m over it, but I wasn’t happy. I’m not gonna curse him out though cos it was his right and I just think it is more indicative of the Dodgers’ lack of contingency plan if they did have a bad season.

what happenned
mags hit a homerun earlier in the game and just starred at it. maggs and weaver exchanged words after his next ab. and just now, gullien just homered and starred it, then look backed at weaver, and then slowly trotted to 1b while starring at weaver.
weaver didnt enjoy that and threw it at the next batter. then got tossed.
all while verlander is sitting on the bench for an extended period of time during a middle of a no hitter.
I don't blame Weaver then
if that is what happened. I’d probably just walk to home plate after the Guillen HR and start the fight when he reaches home plate. Why wait and throw at somebody. /G.Scott

this isn't vlad guerrero laying a bunt down
it’s erick fucking aybar. that’s what he does. he’s a speedy MIF. he bunts. especially against a pitcher who NO ONE is hitting today, you try to get on base anyway possible.
I don't care if it's Juan Pierre
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
bunting is part of baseball
people bunt to try to get on base. it happens.
especially during no hitter attempts.
Yeah I still remember when CC was going for no-no with Brew Crew
And Andy Laroche lay down a PERFECT bunt to break up the nono. It ended up being a no hitter, but thats just how it is. Bunting is there to use it, infield hits are hits, just ask Ichiro shit.
Some of these unwritten rules are archaic
For example, stealing a base not acceptable if you’re up like 7-0.
If it is a close game everything is on the table, this is a pennant race not some gentleman’s game.

i think bunting is ok there..
only thing i could think of comparable that i wouldnt agree with is if a pitcher had a perfect game going, and you as the hitter tried to lean into a pitch to get hit. That would be bushleague.
No he doesn't
He can just tell him that his defense failed him in the first place. Hell they failed so horribly that they let Aybar generously score by failing to execute a proper run down and have an extra out to break the no hitter.
It was actually his own fault that allowed the run to score
On the pickle. Verlander that is. If people don’t think this kind of thing is important to the players, they really don’t pay attention.
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
I'm sure its important to the players
But other players dont have to respect the other players regardless of what they do.
If your point is that “this kind of thing is important to the players”, then I’m sure this kind of getting “no-hit” thing is important to Aybar too and he wanted to break it regardless of what happens, since it is pretty embarrassing to the team to get no hitted. I’m sure Aybar knew he was gonna get some hate from DET fans and Verlander himself, but why does he care? All he needs to care about is his own team and doesn’t need to “respect” players. He can swing or he doesn’t have to, its his choice. He challenged the defense using the tactic within baseball rule and it is Verlander’s fault for not getting him out, hell for letting him score (Although 3rd and SS failed at run down before Verlander had to come in)
They’re all getting paid by their respective team, no need to have respect, just try anything to win or hell try to get a hit in this case.
what if the score was 8-0?
And say Ryan Howard is at the plate…the defense is playing its normal shift.
Would it be wrong for Howard to bunt away from the shift to break up the no hitter?
Yes

Context, when a game is still winnable you do everything you can to win the game, when it is not, if a player goes out of his norm approach, I’d consider that a fastball to his ass next at bat. Someone like Aybar / Pierre you have to guard the bunt every at bat.

A guy as small as Aybar
He’s gonna feel that for a week or so after, lol.

thats one stunt i dont think jackass has done..
get hit by a pitching machine or pitcher.
It’d take some balls to get in front of a 100mph pitch and let it hit you
KC Blogger did it a few months ago, was only supposed to be 88 I think but it ended up being 92 I think.

I'd fake an injury if I were Aybar
next time they are facing Verlander. That will hurt big time.
fitting way to end it IMO

I don’t think Valverde has blown a save all year. He’s saving them up for the playoffs

Oh, i saw something about Wandy NOT being traded
Idk if that’s true though

That's actually better than I thought
But he’s essentially their Jamey Carroll. Good to have, sure, but not at 9 mill a year :/

Can you tag them left to right?

so i just saw a randy johnson just for men commercial
and i decided to look up his career.
how the fuck did he throw 184 innings at 118 ERA+ at the age of 44?
Being one of the top 10 pitchers ever will help you do that
I bet he could be around a 100 ERA+ right now if he were to play this year.

Im jealous at what the Padres got for Mike Adams
Erlin and Wieland’s command is going open windows for them in our division.

I'm not too happy
Dodgers are missing out on allot of players that would have helped in 2012
C Ianetta is available, without him it seems like Dodgers are going to have to sign Ramon Hernandez. Though they won’t have much competition, and I wouldn’t mind a Hernandez/AJ Ellis combo.
1st two of the guys I wanted the dodgers to target, Branden Allen and Chris Davis, were traded for packages the Dodgers could have matched….
If new ownership does not occur by the offseason Dodgers will be looking at Carlos Pena, or Derek Lee.
2nd and 3rd are going to be pretty sad if Juan Uribe is the best the Dodgers can do. The Rockies seem to be shopping Ian Stewart, I would get in on that. A tremendous move would be to trade for the Padres Chase Headley.
Overall it seems that the Dodgers are not in a position to be sellers (their roster is simplynot built for it). Nor are they primed to greatly improve the team through fee agency.
Therefore the best option might be to invest what finances
The dodgers can muster into short term veterans so as to make a run at the playoffs.
Re-sign Hiroki Kuroda (he better not go back to Japan)
Sign Ramon Hernandez to a two year 9 million dollar deal.
Sign Carlos Pena to a two year 15 million dollar deal
Sign one of the free agent closers to a two year deal
Sign a veteran middle infielder
Trade for Chase Headley
A 2012 Dodger team with these additions could attempt contention, and should it be unable to do so, it would be in a great sellers position. Hernandez, Pena, Uribe, Lilly, Ethier, (maybe even Kemp) would be Attractive. Especially considering how many of them would be signed through 2013 and thus not be pure rentals.
This strategy of riding the line between buying and selling would enable flexibility whilst awaiting ownership resolution. The Dodgers could reemerge in 2014 with new
Owners, boat loads of cash, reinforcements from the minors, and an impressive free agent class from which to draw. Until
Then though, Ned should reimplement his 2006 strategy, and hope for equally exciting results.
