Thursday Dodgers Links
The Dodgers play early on Thursday, but here are some links to tide you over before the game...
- Former Dodger center fielder and current Diamondbacks Triple A manager Brett Butler talked with Ed Godfrey of The Oklahoman about using, and quitting, tobacco and battling throat cancer.
- David Laurila of FanGraphs interviewed former Dodger Charlie Haeger about the art of the knuckleball. "I’ve had a chance to work with Charlie Hough — I’ve listened to him a lot — so you can learn from them, but when it comes to the actual feel of letting go with the pitch, you’re completely on your own," Haeger said.
- Former Dodger Andy LaRoche pitched an inning Wednesday night for a depleted Triple A Sacramento team, and picked up the victory against the Isotopes. Chris Jackson of the Albuquerque Examiner has the details.
- I am a day late to the party on this, but MLB Trade Rumors looked at their projected Elias rankings to determine several unfortunate Type A free agents.
- Here is the link to MLB.tv, which will be the only way to watch Saturday afternoon's game in Colorado. The 1:10 p.m. PDT game will be available on tape delay due to the exclusivity window held by Fox.
- Clayton Kershaw was a guest Wednesday on Intentional Talk on MLB Network. This video is worth watching if only for the childhood photos of Kershaw and Matthew Stafford:
- Finally, I'm sure this kind of rapport between Kershaw and Rod Barajas will lead to good things in the series finale:

So I'm guessing
the number one thing you got from the SBNation conference was that a daily link to other web sites is something you should be doing?

it wasn’t number one, but it was highly encouraged. I think it’s brilliant for TBLA since it’s odd chatting it up about every which thing in the morning, all inside Brandon’s highly researched minor league post.

Depends what I’m going for. If I’m trying to be funny and I make myself laugh when I read it, then hit I post. If I’m writing a sad story and I cry then I hit post. If I’m trying to get people angry and I get angry then I hit post. If I’m trying to enlighten and I think I’ve made my point without totally corkscrewing the readers ability to comprehend my points then I hit post.
Rarely do I think – Hey is this any good, because if I did that, I’d probably never hit post.
Early on at TBLA I came to the conclusion that if I read other people’s work I’d never write anything because somewhere someone would have already covered what I wanted to write. Course that was back when I was writing.

Since 2001, 3rd baseman 25 and under, sorted by OPS+
Three of the top four seasons were by stud monkeys who did not stay at 3rd very long.
The list is populated with players you’d expect to populate the list except for the player with the 20th best OPS+, 25 and under since 2001, playing 3rd base.
