Matt Kemp Joins 30/30 Club, Tied For 11th Fastest In MLB History

Matt Kemp his hit 30th home run of the season on Friday night, a solo shot in the seventh inning off Matt Reynolds of the Colorado Rockies. Kemp also has 33 stolen bases, giving him a spot in the 30/30 club. Kemp's 2011 is the 55th season in baseball history with at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases, and he is the 35th player to accomplish the feat. Kemp is also the second Dodger to hit 30/30, joining Raul Mondesi, who did so for the Dodgers in 1997 and 1999.

Kemp reached the 30/30 plateau in the Dodgers' 130th game of the season, making Kemp one of the fastest players ever to do so.

A couple notes: Alex Rodriguez reaching 30/30 before the season was two-thirds complete in 1998 was amazing, and Eric Davis was a freak of nature in the late 1980s. Barry Bonds reached 40/40 status in 1996, but didn't hit 30/30 until game number 149. Bonds had one of the great finishing runs that season, with 11 steals in his last 12 games to hit 40 on the nose.

Kemp is on pace for 37 home runs and 41 stolen bases this season.

by Nolij on Aug 26, 2011 9:52 PM PDT up reply actions

When I was in fourth grade, we all wrote fan letters to our favorite authors. One girl wrote a letter to Howe, as she was a fan of his book Bunnicula. He wrote back — they all wrote back — and said, in part, “You didn’t ask me where I went to school.” He came to visit and signed books.

I wrote to Daniel Pinkwater. He didn’t come to visit, though he did send a nice note. When I was a little older, I would read his entire oeuvre, including the book that changed my life.

Remember when the Marlins were awesome?

59-72 now. How do you go that great to that shitty?

Josh Johnson, Hanley Ramirez plus a bunch of other stuff?

Hanley was lousy while he was playing though.

Keep in mind, this is the team that thinks demoting @LoMoMarlins is a good idea.

They were doing incredible when Hanley was still shitty

and 1 starter doesn’t kill you that badly. I’m not talking about the Dodgers going from .500 to 10 games under, I’m talking about a team getting to 30 wins before just about any other team then winning 3-4 games in a month.

This might be the best day of the season

- Dodgers win in come-from-behind fashion
- Matt Kemp joins the 30-30 club
- Vin is coming back

Seriously, has there been a better day this season?

He's hitting .345 with a 1.012 OPS this year

He absolutely deserves a shot and might be one of our top prospects again (top 10 possibly)

Greatest Dodger Ever

Vin Scully, hands down. When you think of the Dodgers you think of Vin. Loved how he broke the news. No big press conference just quitely announced it. Very classy and professional as always. As Dodger fans we are truly blessed and privileged to listen to him.

by dodgers4life on Aug 26, 2011 10:58 PM PDT reply actions

The Dodgers have had a lot of great people in their organization. But there are only three that make me proud to be a Dodger fan: Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, and Vin Scully.

by court168627 on Aug 26, 2011 11:00 PM PDT up reply actions

There was no announcement of Scully coming back in the stadium tonight. I only knew because I checked the game thread, then checked my email to see the press release.

What a great night. Recap up in a bit.

In fact they were both balks. And also, those were monster home runs. That you can't protest.

Good little explosion by the fellas tonight.

Oh and once again, the much maligned Lilly ended up pitching a very good game, save for the early homer.

WGT.

James Loney & HR"s

late to the party, but thrilled about Vin Coming back. Funny comment about what teams Loney has hit the HR’s off.

Would we take Loney if he could hit 18 HR’s a year all against the Rockies? He has 5 this year against them.

The Dodgers now officially have a better record than the Pirates.

The darling of the playoff race a month and a half ago. Now more done than the Dodgers. Which is sad, but also glad the Dodgers have at least surged that far…

This is the real James Loney right?

Because if I wake up and figure out it’s a dream, I’m gonna be pissed…

Great day for the Dodgers…
