Matt Kemp Joins 30/30 Club, Tied For 11th Fastest In MLB History
Matt Kemp his hit 30th home run of the season on Friday night, a solo shot in the seventh inning off Matt Reynolds of the Colorado Rockies. Kemp also has 33 stolen bases, giving him a spot in the 30/30 club. Kemp's 2011 is the 55th season in baseball history with at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases, and he is the 35th player to accomplish the feat. Kemp is also the second Dodger to hit 30/30, joining Raul Mondesi, who did so for the Dodgers in 1997 and 1999.
Kemp reached the 30/30 plateau in the Dodgers' 130th game of the season, making Kemp one of the fastest players ever to do so.

A couple notes: Alex Rodriguez reaching 30/30 before the season was two-thirds complete in 1998 was amazing, and Eric Davis was a freak of nature in the late 1980s. Barry Bonds reached 40/40 status in 1996, but didn't hit 30/30 until game number 149. Bonds had one of the great finishing runs that season, with 11 steals in his last 12 games to hit 40 on the nose.
Kemp is on pace for 37 home runs and 41 stolen bases this season.

Part of the Bunnicula series!
"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great."
When I was in fourth grade, we all wrote fan letters to our favorite authors. One girl wrote a letter to Howe, as she was a fan of his book Bunnicula. He wrote back — they all wrote back — and said, in part, “You didn’t ask me where I went to school.” He came to visit and signed books.
I wrote to Daniel Pinkwater. He didn’t come to visit, though he did send a nice note. When I was a little older, I would read his entire oeuvre, including the book that changed my life.

no scoring at all until a 5 run late inning rally
You can tell Kemp was fighting back a grin while he was rounding the bases. As crappy as this season has been, there have been some really really great moments.
Kemp hitting a HR and smiling is worth the price of admission. I want him to be a Dodger for a long time.

damn, bonds got to 30/30 at 149 games and was still able to make 40/40 in 1996. he mustve seriously turned it on.
I'm guessing he had the SB already
but 10+ HR in 13 games is very impressive.
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
i assumed the opposite. it just seemed more likely that he piled on sb attempts in the last 13 games because he realized 40/40 was within reach.

Greatest Dodger Ever
Vin Scully, hands down. When you think of the Dodgers you think of Vin. Loved how he broke the news. No big press conference just quitely announced it. Very classy and professional as always. As Dodger fans we are truly blessed and privileged to listen to him.
The Dodgers have had a lot of great people in their organization. But there are only three that make me proud to be a Dodger fan: Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, and Vin Scully.
