Dodgers Saturday Links: Clayton Kershaw, NL Cy Young Award, Andre Ethier Knee Surgery
Here are your Dodgers links for a Saturday...
- "I just try to match him," Clayton Kershaw said of his three matchups this season against Tim Lincecum, per Tony Jackson of ESPN LA. "He is an awesome pitcher. You know it's going to be a low-scoring game. … [But] it doesn't really matter to me who I'm facing. I just have to put up zeroes, no matter who it is."
- Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News is one of the 32 voters for the National League Cy Young Award this season. He asked Lincecum after Friday's game his choice for the award, and Lincecum chose Kershaw. "He doesn’t give in," Lincecum said. "You can see his confidence when he’s pitching. He knows he’s good. The most important thing as a pitcher is to know you’ll get the job done. You can see it with him. He’s done it all year."
- Andre Ethier will have "clean up" surgery on his right knee at some point soon, after getting a third medical opinion, wrote Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times.
- Ken Gurnick of MLB.com has details on contract incentives already attained and within reach for certain Dodgers, including Hiroki Kuroda and Aaron Miles.
- Kenny Shulsen of Lasorda's Lair watched the Dodgers' Pioneer League affiliate Ogden Raptors beat the Orem Owlz on Friday night. He has a recap, including videos, here, here, and here.

But the Phillies don’t need more pitching.
"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great."
Halladay is getting old
he can’t pitch forever, unless he drained the immortality from Jamie Moyer and thats why dude finally went down.
But they have JoAnn Worley!

I hope this quote helps today....and for years to come
From the san jose mercury news: "Even Ryan Vogelsong, who was elected by teammates and coaches as the Willie Mac Award winner, told reporters prior to the game that he turned down a chance to sign with the Dodgers over the winter out of personal preference.
“I didn’t want to wear Dodger blue,” Vogelsong said. “I’m sure glad it happened the way it happened. Just when I think things will slow down a bit, they just keep getting better.”"
probably better to not publicly talk about teams you turned down, but whatever. ryan is a giant and i don’t need any other reason to not like him!
If we have Vogelsong, does Rubby’s elbow asplode?

concept is specifically more abstract
griddled flat pastry with syrup and deep fried pastry with sugar glaze are ideas
fuckton of unfinishable carbs is a concept

If we had Volgosong.....
If we would have signed Volgosong, he would be 5-12 with an ERA of 4.50 and Ned would be saying he is going to turn it around. I am convinced therre is always the x-Giant factor and for us it is not a plus. Hopefully we use it today as bulletin board fodder.
Funny – the way I look at this is without anger, rather with joy and relief!
I wouldn’t want someone signing with the Dodgers if they really didn’t want to play here. Plenty of other players (at least historically) have wanted the opportunity to play with the Dodgers, especially toward the end of their careers. These are the players I’d prefer to have on the team.
We would rightfully think that Heyman tweet about Kershaw was dumb as all hell if he used that logic to vote for someone else.

It helps to put up zeros against the Giants offense.
From MCC
Then the Dodgers scored a run on an infield hit, a bunt, and a 20-hopper through the middle. That was followed by Giant-killer Rod Barajas hitting a single. He was replaced on the bases by Giant-killer Eugenio Velez, who was going to try his Giant killing on a different team this time
Grant is hilarious
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
if every Giant fan were like Grant, the world would be a better place. If MCC required you to own a Croix de Candelstick to be able to post, MCC might be readable. Unfortunately, neither of those things are true, and most Giant fans appear to be illiterate

Yeah, I have a lot of respect for Grant.
I have his SBNation page saved to make sure i don’t miss his power rankings

As I've said before, derision of Eugeni-0 Velez is something Giants fans and Dodger fans can easily come together on
even if falling short of singing kumbaya about it.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
I'm not expecting him to play til next week, and in whatever games have zero playoff implications
which basically may be all of them very soon.
We did wonder while watching the game last night if maybe they’d bring him in to pinch hit. But that was such a tight game that still had playoff implications, tough spot for your first major league at bat…

I bet he takes a few of Billingsley's starts
To give Bills a fresh approach with pitch calling and whatnot.
Eveland since they’ve worked together before, and maybe some Lilly starts because Lilly can handle himself.

It's somewhat disappointing that the Dbacks have been winning in the same fashion that the Dodgers have recently
Cause 8-2 in the last 10 the Dodgers have picked up no games on the Dbacks. I’m guessing if I checked back in the last 17 where the Dodgers are 14-3, btw, the Dbacks would bave 13-4 or so.
At least they arent the Giants!

by Hollywood Joe on Sep 10, 2011 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes, and finishing 2nd would be even more so
given how crummy this season looked for awhile and that the Dodgers were at or near last place for quite awhile. I’ll take it as a positive.

Alabama just got the closest first down I have ever seen. Very literally the nose of the football just barely was at the chain upon measurement. On that series, the Crimson Tide got roughly 10.000000000000000000000000001 yards.
Auburn just won by roughly four inches.

Crazy weather today
Thunderstorms near the coast? Are you kidding me? Right before our soccer game? Come on, why can’t we get these goofy storms during the work week instead!
there was some weird tropical weather up here last night too, some rain drops during the Dodger-Gnat game
and some lightning in the east bay. Weird indeed.

Great weather, thunder, lightening at around 10:00AM then hail, then full blown 10 minutes of pure pouring rain. Then sunshine.
You may doubt the hail but I was outside and brought in the ice balls to show my doubting wife

The weather service also warned about hail the size of pennies and wind gusts up to 50 mph, along with “heavy rain and frequent dangerous lightning.” The service advised people to take shelter if the weather approaches their area.
.
The storm, with lightning and thunder, was moving through the Woodland Hills and Chatsworth areas by 11 a.m.

Tom Grieve just said on the Fox broadcast that this was “the hottest summer in the history of Texas.”
I would imagine that would be very, very hot.
Actually, Texas just had the hottest month of any state in the history of the US

Would this be Sellers first start at 3b?
Thank God, watching Miles last night at 3rd, while at game in person, was sort of last straw for me.
I’m very pleased with how useful he’s been at the plate this year overall, but his Gnome Defense especially at 3rd is kind of hard to watch.
