Dodgers 9/10/11 Minor League Report - Lookouts Eliminated; Quakes and Raptors Also Lose
Minor League Player of the Day – J.T. Wise - 2 for 2, 2 Walks, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 Run. The Quakes didn't win on Saturday, but Wise had a perfect day at the plate and also took one deep to earn player of the day honors. The catcher had a very solid season for Rancho in 2011 with 17 HR's and a .887 OPS, but was often overlooked due to his age and the emergence of Griff Erickson. A big playoff run could get his name back on the map, however, and he's well on his way to making that happen.
AAA – Season over
AA – The Lookouts can officially head home for the off-season as Chattanooga was swept by the Smokies (Cubs) via a 7 - 2 loss on Saturday. Starter Allen Webster allowed all 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in 3.2 innings, but he struck out 6 and only 3 of the runs were earned thanks to a couple of errors. His bullpen was great as they threw 5.1 frames of 2-hit ball, but that wasn't enough to avoid the defeat. Steven Ames tossed two innings and struck out 2 in his season finale, while Shawn Tolleson K'ed a pair in his final minor league relief appearance of 2011. At the plate, Alfredo Silverio finished off his season with a bang as he smacked a solo homer in the very first inning, while Jake Lemmerman had a breakout game with 3 hits, a walk, and a RBI.
HiA – The Quakes lost their playoff opener against the Storm (Padres) on Saturday in a 8 - 5 defeat. Starter Red Patterson got lit up for 8 hits and 5 runs in just 4 frames as he allowed a pair of home runs. Bret Montgomery was solid as he gave up just 1 run over the next 3 innings, but Steve Smith also had a rough game as he permitted 2 runs to cross the plate in his 2 innings of work. Despite the loss, the Rancho offense was relatively solid as the Quakes jumped out a 4 - 0 lead thanks to early homers by Wilberto Ortiz and JT Wise. Wise was actually perfect on the night as he went 2 for 2 with a pair of walks. Austin Jackson also contributed with 3 hits, while Nick Buss went 2 for 5 for the only other multi-hit game of the night.
LoA – Season over
Rookie Ogden – Starter Brandon Martinez pitched a great game for the Raptors on Saturday, but Orem's starter Daniel Vargas-Vila was even better as the Owlz (Angels) beat Ogden 5 - 2 to even the best of 3 playoff series at 1 game apiece. Vargas-Vila actually had a perfect game going through 6.1 innings before Justin Boudreaux broke through with a single, but he ended the night by allowing just 1 hit in 7 frames with 9 K's. B-Mart was also very good for the Raptors as he gave up just 4 hits and 1 run over 5 innings, but a costly error by Bourdreaux allowed 3 unearned runs to score against reliever Jason West which sealed the loss. As you can imagine there wasn't much offense for Ogden in this defeat, however Joc Pederson did drive in a run in the 9th with a double while Joe Winker had a pinch hit triple and scored a run.
Rookie Arizona – Season over
DSL – Season over
Coming up - Since the Lookouts were eliminated on Saturday, just 2 teams remain in the Dodger minor league playoffs. The Raptors will send Raydel Sanchez to the mound in their sudden death game with Orem, and Jon Michael Redding will try and even the Quakes' series in a home game against the Storm.

you're welcome
I love doing it. it’s a little sad to see the minor league season coming to a close, but it has been a good year and the off-season give me time to do more analysis and my new rankings

Brandon
I also really appreciate your updates also. Do you think anyone from AA gets a call up?
that's a tough question
because Mattingly has said that he doesn’t want a crowded locker room, and the active roster is already at 32 not including blake. Van Slyke, Silverio, and Castellanos would be the most likely hitting candidates to be called up, but they are all outfielders and we already have Oeltjen sitting on our bench and Hoffmann didn’t even get promoted from AAA. The only pitcher i can see being considered is Shawn Tolleson, and I give that a 50 – 50 chance of happening

oops
Too many alsos in that sentence. Must have coffee.
Heh. (Meh.) Eh.
@dylanohernandez Dylan Hernandez
Mattingly, last night, on reaching the .500 mark: “Eh.”

Yes. He didn’t seem at all heartened by it. For an easy-going guy, it’s pretty clear how disappointed he is not to be heading one of the very few teams still in contention.
As he should be, I suppose. Being overtly celebratory about reaching .500 wouldn't look that good...
finishing 2nd might be more cause for at least a minor celebration, given how badly the season had been going.

lineup - Sands batting 2nd
Gordon 6, Sands 9, Kemp 8, Rivera 3, Miles 4, Barajas 2, Gwynn 7, Mitchell 5, Kuroda 1
He runs faster than Miles. But will he get on base more than either Miles or Gwynn? He hasn’t been managing too well as yet.
Who’s this Mitchell person? What’s he done lately?
But will he get on base more than either Miles or Gwynn
Over a full season, I don’t doubt it.

Beyotch Williams says he changes his "Cy Young" vote from Kershaw to Ian Kennedy

because he didn’t like Kershaw’s road splits vs home, and at home he pitches in a more pitcher-friendly ballpark. WHATEVER. Honestly, it’s not an unfair point, but would rather he just talk about why Kennedy deserves it, rather than ignoring that Kershaw has been awesome.

Translation: Williams needed something to talk about during highlights.

Buut he did pick Kemp for MVP!
All is forgiven even if he did call the Dodgers “a bad baseball team.”
And hey, maybe their “MVPs on teams with losing records” stat will be soon rendered meaningless anyway. :-)
