- The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.

by David Young on Sep 21, 2011 7:21 PM PDT up reply actions

There’s a difference between being wild and just flat out not challenging hitters. He is trying to get by on too many off speed pitches.

by slaps825 on Sep 21, 2011 7:22 PM PDT up reply actions

When your fastball sits 88, you can’t challenge hitters.

- The commenter formerly known as El Lay Dave.

by David Young on Sep 21, 2011 7:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Sure you can, you just have to locate. There are tons of pitchers who compete at 88 MPH. Dana Eveland isn’t one of them.

by slaps825 on Sep 21, 2011 7:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Locating doesn’t sound like challenging to me. Locating is putting it on the black at the knees. Challenging is throwing cheese at the letters. 88 at the letters goes into the pavilion.

Tied for 21st in all-time Dodger history, with Dixie Walker (1946) and Jack Fournier (1924).

In LA Dodger history, Kemp is 6th. Up next is Frank Howard, 119 RBI (1962)

I can’t find where Eric Steven asked me “what famous bad game” and he is of course right.
How does E.S. keep track of so many things and get them all right! G.O.Knows. Famous is an over statement.
Kuroda had that one inevitable “off” game where he was gone in 4+ innings at the end of the Giants series. The unfortunate part was that the dying Giants had been absolutely crumbling and lost the first two games of a 3 game series to the Dodgers as they lost ground to Arizona. After the victory in the Kuroda—final Dodgers game, the Giants went on an 8 game winning streak and got to within 5 games of the D-backs. I hope the Dodgers win as much as they can, as I don’t trust the D-backs to win and can see the unthinkable happening. Sure hope I am over-reacting.

I don’t get why Oeltjen has not been given any starting time in Semptember. The Dodgers keep using him as a pinch hitter, but he has not done well in the role. He’s gone .190 .320 .238 in 28 PAs as a pinch hitter. I guess the OBP is not so bad, but I’m far more interested in how he’s done when starting. In his 11 starts Oeltjen went .270 .396 .486, high BABIP, but still probably more meaningful then what he has done getting an AB here and there. Facing pitchers multiple times in a row and making adjustments is a big part of the game, and by excluding Oeltjen from doing that, I’m not sure the Dodgers are doing anything.

by Table on Sep 21, 2011 9:52 PM PDT reply actions

I like Gwynn on next years bench over Oeltjen anyways, but it would have been better to have at least had a solid look at the Aussie.

Why am I typing during a Kemp AB….gah

by Table on Sep 21, 2011 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions

because they want to lure rivera back next year

and sands is obvioulsy going to start everyday. And loney is hot as shit and they are still trying to make heads and tail of it.

by nolander on Sep 21, 2011 10:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Hm, so you think they are trying to get Rivera to come back by giving him more playing time, interesting theory.

It’s just that even with Sands and Rivera making the team, Oeltjen and Gwynn would be the candidates for the left handed bench outfielder. Even though Oeltjen has been on the roster for quite awhile, we can’t make much of an evaluation of him.

by Table on Sep 21, 2011 10:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Once again I managed to spend a Kemp AB typing…..wtf

by Table on Sep 21, 2011 10:46 PM PDT up reply actions

I just think that

if they want him to come back they aren’t going to sit him. Also, they simply don’t think trent is a long term solution.

Rivera is going to be on the bench anyways…….Also nobody mentioned long term.

by Table on Sep 21, 2011 10:51 PM PDT up reply actions

or short term

Trent is just kind of there because they have a spot on the roster and no better options

This is also the conclusion I’ve come too. Maybe Oeltjen goes to Japan. I could see that working out.

by Table on Sep 21, 2011 10:53 PM PDT up reply actions

I do wish they would use him more

in the sense that I never want to see velez bat again

Yeah, I just don’t like how they’ve used him as a pinch hitter. Really have to get a vet for that.

Is it just me or is Ramon starting to look a bit more like the Tron Tron of old last few times out?

Maybe he figured something out, or still sucks and will revert back to suckitude shortly?
