I'm still thinking about Kershaw holding onto the lead
For Cy Young. I know everyone said it was a lock, but it would be good to know for sure.

The official Humma position is complicated
I identify with Velez, and for him, I want him to get a hit.
I root for weird things to happen, and the call of history is too much, and I want him not to get a hit.
I switch between these easily and often.

If by “both leagues”‘you mean just AL and NL, there’s only one team that’s ever played in both.
But if you mean “two major leagues” then the answer is “two”. The other team is the Dodgers. The Dodgers won the American Association pennant in 1889, then joined the NL in 1890, won the NL pennant in 1899 and 1900, then another 16! Times I think. Plus the NL West division title several more times.

Above the staggering girl, her thighs caressed
By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill,
He holds her helpless breast upon his breast.
How can those terrified vague fingers push
The feathered glory from her loosening thighs?
And how can body, laid in that white rush,
But feel the strange heart beating where it lies?
A shudder in the loins engenders there
The broken wall, the burning roof and tower
And Agamemnon dead.

Especially since he looks so sad about it… Feel like he’s part of some torture experiment at this point.

Can this be credited to Kevin Towers?
Goes from a 90 win SD team to turn the Dbacks to NL West champions.
he gets some credit for sure
he made a complete dog shit bullpen into a contender, and got rid of some the k machines on the team.

I still like HJ’s theory that his first hit will come to extend the 9th inning (maybe not this game…) long enough to give Kemp an extra AB.
If he does get a hit, he should retire immediately afterwards, like Ted Williams.
I know it sounds like I’m making a joke at Velez’s expense, but I’m not.

So here's something I don't get
When they hand out the ugly shirts and hats, why doesn’t the equipment manager or whoever take the tags off? It’s not like they are going to try and return them to New Era or whatever if they don’t win? Is this what the players like or something?
WHAMMY!

D2X is certainly aware that Velez is — ummmm — slumping, but is he aware that Velez just tied the record for futility?

Coming up on midnight here in the Land of Enchantment.
