Dodgers Silenced By Aaron Harang

Matt Kemp extended his hitting streak to eight games on Saturday night, and has 17 hits in his last 33 at-bats. His streak of games with at least one run scored, however, ended at six.

Aaron Harang continued his great pitching against the Dodgers this season, pitching eight scoreless innings to lead the Padres over the Dodgers 3-0 on Saturday night at Petco Park in San Diego. Harang entered tonight allowing one earned run on three hits in 12 innings against the Dodgers this season, and it was more of the same tonight, as the Dodgers managed just three hits and no walks against the right-hander in eight innings.

Matt Kemp singled in his first at-bat, but went hitless the rest of the game, including a double play against Heath Bell to end it in the ninth inning. Kemp did have a 400-foot flyout to center field in the sixth inning. Here is the updated look at the triple crown stats.

Batting Average Home Runs RBI
Ryan Braun .3309 Matt Kemp 37 Matt Kemp 119
Jose Reyes .3295 Albert Pujols 37 Ryan Howard 114
Matt Kemp .3253 Uggla / Fielder
35 Prince Fielder 114

Both Jerry Sands (12 games) and Dee Gordon (11 games) extended their career-high hitting streaks on Saturday.

Clayton Kershaw looks to lock up the National League Cy Young Award in Sunday's series finale. Cory Luebke pitches for the Padres.

WP - Aaron Harang (14-7): 8 IP, 3 hits, 5 strikeouts

LP - Chad Billingsley (11-11): 5 IP, 4 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 3 walks, 3 strikeouts

Sv - Heath Bell (42): 1 IP, 1 hit, 1 strikeout

I see Billingsley played no part in tonight’s game, and apparently does not deserve a mention. Ah well. He did really great for four innings. That could be his epitaph for the season.

Wait. This is going a little too far:

LP – Wade LeBlanc (11-11): 5 IP, 4 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 3 walks, 3 strikeouts

Avoidance taken to a bit of an extreme, no? ;-)

He was on “Friends” for, like, 20 years, and then they gave him his own show. You don’t remember? Perhaps you were encased in your pop bunker.

Nate King Cole once wrote about Chad Billingsley’s 2011 season, but then added an “un” after initial versions of the song didn’t test well.

None of the Big 3 for the NL CYA have pitched

since Wednesday morning when I looked at the Baseball-Reference neutralized stats. These were the stats then:

Halladay: 17-7, 2.50 ERA, 223 IP, 34 BB, 213 K, 1.072 WHIP
Cliff Lee: 17-7, 2.52 ERA, 218 IP, 42 BB, 223 K, 1.083 WHIP
Kershaw: 17-7, 2.53 ERA, 217 IP, 55 BB, 232 K, 1.069 WHIP

Apparently the Dodger Stadium park factor shifted in the last few days. Heading into today:

Kershaw: 17-7, 2.49 ERA, 217 IP, 55 BB, 232 K, 1.065 WHIP
Halladay: 17-7, 2.50 ERA, 223 IP, 34 BB, 213 K, 1.072 WHIP
Cliff Lee: 17-7, 2.52 ERA, 218 IP, 42 BB, 223 K, 1.083 WHIP

I still find it amazing how similar those three pitchers are.

So, I was reading about MLB's latest ploy to get McCourt out...........

…And now the Dodgers may not be part of MLB if Frank remains committed to holding on to them? I have to become a Rancho Cucamonga fan if I want to see Dodger Baseball? WTF is going on here? Is any of this going to allow for Dodger basebal next year?

Baseball is a game, and games are supposed to be fun.

In

A word, yeah that would really happen. MLB has hoped not to play this card since it brings the issue of their power into question. But there is no chance they would kick out the Dodgers.

Looks like the Vegas Over/Under is going to go off at 5.3 runs (5.5 -116) which is the second lowest of any game this season.

by Xeifrank on Sep 25, 2011 10:16 AM PDT up reply actions

I would not play Miles at 3B. He is a defensive liability. I would have started Sellers at 3B, then batted Sands 5th and Sellers 8th. I like Carroll in the 2 hole. He should give Dee a chance to steal if Dee gets on.
