Up to the minute batting average
through 3 AB each for Braun/Reyes today…
Braun .33333
Reyes .32952
Kemp .32534
This is wrong by the way
I had one fewer AB for Braun. Braun is at .33273 (185 for 556)

Sort of

Gonna be tough for Kemp to win the batting title (though a lot can happen in three days). He’s still the MVP regardless though.
Nothing is ever easy.
Because he’s aiming for the 40 home runs and HR leader, he’s playing maybe more like a typical power hitter, all fly balls,’and getting struck out a lot instead of placing sharp singles on line drives.

Last year Pujols and Votto had extremely similar seasons
The difference between them, really, was that Votto was on a playoff team and Pujols wasn’t. Pujols got I believe 1 first place vote, the rest went to Votto. Kemp is slightly better overall (though Kemp is a CF, Braun is a LF instead of 2 1B), but I’m afraid it will be the same story, playoff team against non-playoff team.
as evidenced by his only 3 MVPs (assuming he feels Pujols should have won more than 3).
cal. lakers. dodgers. packers. chelsea.
vols. rangers. galaxy.
I know I wont win any arguments with Pujols>Bonds back then
But I most certainly have no problem arguing Pujols>Howard in 06
look at the years hes lost out. 4 of 7 were to Bonds and his freakish steroid numbers. one to votto, one to howard when he hit 58 HR, and one to Rollins and 7 other players between them. dont really think hes been treated that unfairly. and this is coming from someone who wishes pujols breaks every record possible.
I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone. Simple trying to explain his argument.
cal. lakers. dodgers. packers. chelsea.
vols. rangers. galaxy.
you’re probably right. he probably deserved it when howard won it. but i dont think it’s a travesty to give someone the mvp when they hit 58 HR with a BA .300+
If you care at all about Advanced statistics
in 2006 Pujols had a .331/.431/.671 line with an 8.5 WAR, Howard had .313/.425/.659 line with 6.2 WAR.
Pujols had 9 less home runs and slugged more than .010 points better.
i do
and their OPS were nearly identical. the huge discrepancy in teh WAR comes from defense, which the current defensive metrics are not very good. obviously pujols is a much better fielder, but im not trying to say that he didnt deserve the mvp. on the contrary. im just saying that the voters werent looking for a reason not to vote for him.
Pujols has better by .018 points in BA, .006 points in OBP, and .012 points in slugging
.448 wOBA to .436 wOBA. It’s not a giant margin, but then taking fielding into it, clearly Pujols was the better choice. Last season it was a similar situation with Pujols and Votto, and as opposed to 06 where Howard got the award on a non playoff team, pujols didn’t get the same treatment with basically the same argument. The only real difference is Pujols league leading home runs were lower as were Votto’s still high amount.
As evidenced by finishing behind Howard in 2006
and not getting more than 1 first place vote last year when the seasons were incredibly close.
I don’t think you realize just how historic Albert Pujols is.
That's likely a factor
I don’t know how I feel about that. It’s nice to give the award to a new player, but if a player is elite enough to win the award, that shouldn’t really factor into the thought process.

Amazing season, Clayton
You deserve more praise than you’ve received, if that’s even possible. Let’s hope Kenley can save your bacon once again here.
Stop worrying about what people deserve and take a look around and see what praise they are getting.

MLB ERA title. If this run on 3B scores, Cliff Lee needs 6.2 scoreless to tie Kershaw, 7 to pass; otherwise Lee needs 10.2 scoreless
good thing the
Braves need to win right?

Besides, Lee is likely on a shortened pitch count anyway, though I think he could talk his way into a chance at an ERA title if the opportunity is there.

The thing that’s crazy is that the Braves have 2 guys who might be even better.

I mean come on!
joe_block: #Phillies Cliff Lee would need 10-2/3 shutout innings and/or 17 strikeouts to unseat #Dodgers Clayton Kershaw from the Triple Crown #MLB
and if he does that

the one thing that nobody has mentioned
is ian kennedy throwing in relief over the next few days to get some work in and somehow getting a win
no fucking way
a playoff team does that with their staff ace when theyve already clinched.
it would be to get work in to stay sharp for the playoffs
not saying it will happen, but it’s possible

not to be a pessimist
but that could also ruin the triple crown
