Up to the minute

Jose Reyes (2-4 with 2 homers) .3352
Ryan Braun (1-2 with a single) .3345
Matthew Ryan Kemp (TBD) .3238

Kemp can still win the batting title. All he needs from this point forward…

Kemp 8 for 9
Reyes 0 for 5
Braun 0 for 4

95% of ignorant fans. If the parents didn’t teach you that first row in your home park comes with responsibility they didn’t raise you right. You stand your ground against the opposing team and make room for the homies. It is quite simple even for those not educated in private schools can figure it out. The ball may or may not have been playable but Alou deserved every chance to find out.

That said I was rooting really hard for Prior to blow up. It was one of the sweetest games not involving the Dodgers I’ve watched.

Hell

we traded Ryan Theriot for $3M + 5 years of Blake Hawksworth control. Hawksworth has so little service time that even after this year, next year we’ll tell him how much he’s making.

Hawk doesn’t strike out enough guys when compared with Lindblom, Tolleson, Guerra, and Jansen. We’re stuck with Guerrier. And we’ll need Elbert from the left side, and I’d rather have St. Clair than Hawk on the big club.

Also, Hawk got the first two outs

Next guy hit a slow chopper behind first base, Hawk had a brain cramp and didn’t cover first. The runner beat him to the bag when he realized that Loney actually fielded the ball. Then a single, walk, an error by Miles on a pretty hard hit ball right to him…eventually Guerra came in, gave up a bases-loaded walk, then a granny to Roberts.

by The Dude Abides on Sep 27, 2011 10:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Seriously. He didn’t pitch poorly, just had a couple unfortunate mishaps.

by G.Scott on Sep 27, 2011 10:52 PM PDT up reply actions

You're right, he didn't pitch poorly for the most part

Montero hit the ball hard, McDonald hit the ball fairly hard. I forgot what Young did. The thing is, Hawk needed a K and didn’t get one. He constantly gets two strikes on guys but doesn’t really have an out pitch.

by The Dude Abides on Sep 27, 2011 10:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah I stopped listening when sellers came in to pinch hit. Turned it back on in time to hear the grand slam. The funny thing is, I called it. I said to myself, oh man he walked a batter. Shit, now he’s going to make a bad pitch, hr, game over. I was hoping that I was wrong :(

To my anti hawksworth ranting, I am curious: how would you improve the 2012 bullpen?

by lnickerson88 on Sep 27, 2011 10:48 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

I just got here, so I have no idea what happened in this particular game. But:

The bullpen might be in the Dodgers’ top ten problems, but it might not be. One cannot plan for a good bullpen. Shit is gonna happen, and good pitchers will suddenly be bad, and bad pitchers will suddenly be good.

if by “angry” you mean “not agreeing with you”, then yes.

I would improve the bullpen by giving Kuo confidence, Belisario a visa, and Lance Cormier a kick in the nuts.

Don’t care about Cormier. Sad about Kuo, kind of WTF about Belisario. I personally think that the bullpen is what it is: a crapshoot of NRI dudes who kind of work, don’t work, and do work. The end.

I want to say true, kind of.

You can be really good but only have two pitches. Then you’re kind of bullpen4lyfe at that point.

@maddzgoesrawr @arenafitness

by Maddz on Sep 27, 2011 10:56 PM PDT up reply actions

My feeling is that for most of humanity, it is sorta-kinda true.

For most of humanity, if you are not good, you will go to the bullpen, where you will be good and not good, alternately, and seemingly at random, for years, until you are not good for too many years and then you will be out of a job.

And then there are the Mariano Riveras and Trevor Hoffmans of the world. I don’t know if Trevor Hoffman deserves the Hall of Fame simply because he didn’t suck for many, many, many, many years, but he might, and after a long, shitty day, I’d like to feel generous.
