Friday Night ALDS Open Thread

Matt Moore welcomed himself to the national baseball stage with seven shutout innings in his second big league start, while Kelly Shoppach (twice) and Johnny Damon provided the power as the Tampa Bay Rays took out the Texas Rangers in Arlington 9-0 in Game 1 of their ALDS.

Tonight, we get the best pitching matchup of the first round, as CC Sabathia and the New York Yankees battle Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers. Miguel Cabrera's last postseason game was at old Yankee Stadium, in 2003 when he and the Florida Marlins celebrated winning the World Series.

First Pitch: 5:30 p.m.

TV: TBS

Rays 9, Rangers 0, ALDS Game 1 Box Score

Tigers at Yankees, ALDS Game 1 Gameday

The rule was really created for a game in which after it becomes official it wouldn’t end early due to a rainout. Which is a good rule.

But, it also means the game is suspended at ANY point in the game. So we get this bottom of the second suspension tonight.

Chris Dominguez

Remember how Keith Law slated Songco for being too old for the league, at age 22. Dominguez was a full 24 this year, and had inferior offensive numbers in the California League than Songco. Yet Dominguez makes the Top 20 list and Songco doesn’t. What a joke.

by CanuckDodger on Oct 1, 2011 8:36 AM PDT reply actions

That is odd

Unusual for any 24 year old to show up in a High-A prospect list. I think BA blew it here.
For perspective: Jerry Sands just turned 24 three days ago, yet his prospect status was always tinted by “too old for league” disclaimers.

by latenite on Oct 1, 2011 9:05 AM PDT up reply actions

It is a joke. As good as some of the other names on that list are, I still think it inconceivable Songco didn't make that list.

He’s gonna crush AA next year imho and maybe even sneak into AAA later in the year.
