Friday Night ALDS Open Thread
Matt Moore welcomed himself to the national baseball stage with seven shutout innings in his second big league start, while Kelly Shoppach (twice) and Johnny Damon provided the power as the Tampa Bay Rays took out the Texas Rangers in Arlington 9-0 in Game 1 of their ALDS.
Tonight, we get the best pitching matchup of the first round, as CC Sabathia and the New York Yankees battle Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers. Miguel Cabrera's last postseason game was at old Yankee Stadium, in 2003 when he and the Florida Marlins celebrated winning the World Series.
First Pitch: 5:30 p.m.
TV: TBS

posted a .925 OPS in the minors in 2006. I don’t really know why that’s relevant, I just wanted to throw that out there.
Let's bring him back for 2012

Boston fans are reacting to the monumental collapse of the Red Sox in typical fashion: buying commemorative merchandise, flooding the streets and generally acting like awful assholes.

I finally have a chance to sit down and the fucking game is postponed. Why the fuck did they even start it to begin with and fuck up the staffs?

Girardi
Nova will start/relieve tomorrow. Garcia will start Game 2.
No word on Game 3 but my guess is Sabathia would start.

Playoff parking at Yankee Stadium is $45 per Jayson Stark.
No refunds. So if you had Game 1 tickets, that’s $90 on parking.

So for Sunday we have
12:07: Tigers at Yankees, Game 2
1:30: D-backs at Brewers Game 2
5:00: Cards at Phillies, Game 2
I have to think TNT would be in play for the Yankees game, at least for the overlap.
I forgot to add the “7” to the end of the last two game times.

If a rainout in NYY tomorrow, the Yanks and Tigers will play everyday though Thursday, per Rosenthal.
Question - forgive me, I forget
Is today’s game suspended? That is, will they pick it up where they left off? Or is partial game played wiped out, and they start new?

Was busy today
Just saw that Songco didn’t make the California League Top 20. That’s pretty damn shocking to me.
a lot of good hitters this year, not sure if its hitters only but that list probably has a lot of Lake Elsinore players on it.
San Jose led with 4 prospects on the list
CALIFORNIA LEAGUE
TOP 20 PROSPECTS
1. Tyler Skaggs, lhp, Visalia Rawhide (Diamondbacks)
2. Jedd Gyorko, 3b, Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres)
3. Gary Brown, of, San Jose Giants
4. Zack Wheeler, rhp, San Jose Giants
5. Jonathan Singleton, 1b, Lancaster Jethawks (Astros)
6. Nolan Arenado, 3b, Modesto Nuts (Rockies)
7. Michael Choice, of, Stockton Ports (Athletics)
8. Allen Webster, rhp, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Dodgers)
9. Chad Bettis, rhp, Modesto Nuts (Rockies)
10. Yasmani Grandal, c, Bakersfield Blaze (Reds)
11. Tommy Joseph, c, San Jose (Giants)
12. Nick Franklin, ss/2b, High Desert (Mariners)
13. Jean Segura, ss, Inland Empire (Angels)
14. Reymond Fuentes, of, Lake Elsinore (Padres)
15. Jose Altuve, 2b, Lancaster (Astros)
16. Matt Davidson, 1b/3b, Visalia (Diamondbacks)
17. Chris Dominguez, 3b, San Jose (Giants)
18. Johnny Hellweg, rhp, Inland Empire (Angels)
19. Chris Owings, ss, Visalia (Diamondbacks)
20. Kent Matthes, of, Modesto (Rockies)
For Sunday
Game 2 of ARI/MIL and STL/PHI were pushed back a half hour because of the DET/NYY Game 2 at 12:07. 2:07 and 5:37 respectively tomorrow.
Diamondbacks Lineup
Bloomquist SS, Hill 2B, Upton RF, Montero C, Young CF, Overbay 1B, Roberts 3B, Parra LF, Kennedy P
Brewers Lineup
Hart RF, Morgan CF, Braun LF, Fielder 1B, Weeks 2B, Hairston 3B, Betancourt SS, Lucroy C, Gallardo P
Game is at 11:07 am.
Chris Dominguez
Remember how Keith Law slated Songco for being too old for the league, at age 22. Dominguez was a full 24 this year, and had inferior offensive numbers in the California League than Songco. Yet Dominguez makes the Top 20 list and Songco doesn’t. What a joke.
That is odd
Unusual for any 24 year old to show up in a High-A prospect list. I think BA blew it here.
For perspective: Jerry Sands just turned 24 three days ago, yet his prospect status was always tinted by “too old for league” disclaimers.
It is a joke. As good as some of the other names on that list are, I still think it inconceivable Songco didn't make that list.
He’s gonna crush AA next year imho and maybe even sneak into AAA later in the year.

Is there another Dominguez in the Cal League and they just messed up? Cause I’m really not seeing any reason he’s better than Songco.

Jay Gibbons was one of many familiar names to file for AAA free agency, not surprisingly.
