Dodgers give Tim Wallach green light to interview for Red Sox managerial job

Troy Taormina-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The third base coach and former minor league manager granted permission by Dodgers to interview for vacant position in Boston.

Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach has been contacted by the Boston Red Sox to interview for their vacant managerial position, per multiple reports. The Dodgers have granted permission for Wallach to interview for the job, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Wallach will be one of the candidates interviewed by Boston, per Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald. The candidates, which include current Blue Jays manager John Farrell, are expected to begin interviews later this week.

"It's the Red Sox. It's one of the top organizations in all of baseball," Wallach told Hernandez.

Wallach has been the third base coach for the Dodgers the past two seasons under manager Don Mattingly, after two seasons as manager of the Triple A Albuquerque Isotopes. Wallach led the Isotopes to a division title and a franchise record 80 wins in 2009, and captured Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year honors. After that season he was named "Best Manager Prospect" by Baseball America.

On Oct. 4, the day after the regular season ended, both Mattingly and general manager Ned Colletti said changes in the coaching staff were talked about in season-ending meetings.

"We started with meetings today. It's something we're talking about," Mattingly said. "Every year somebody changes. Very seldom do you see the staff stay totally status quo. It's something we'll talk about."
