The Dodgers need to win two games to stay alive, but that's only half the battle.
The Dodgers did their part on Monday night with their sixth straight win. But the Cardinals did too, and now the Dodgers have no margin for error.
They need two wins over the Giants, and two Reds wins over the Cardinals to force a tie with St. Louis. Here are the standings:
| National League Second Wild Card Spot | |||
| Team | W-L | Pct | GB |
| St. Louis | 87-73 | .544 | --- |
| Los Angeles | 85-75 | .531 | 2 |

Here is a recap of the relevant Monday's game action:
Dodgers 3, Giants 2: Andre Ethier homered, then even though San Francisco tied the game against Kenley Jansen in the eighth inning, the Dodgers loaded the bases for Elian Herrera, who delivered a walk-off win.
Cardinals 4, Reds 2: Jaime Garcia homered and pitched into the seventh, putting St. Louis on the precipice of a return to the postseason.
Here is Tuesday's schedule:
- 5:15 p.m. - Cincinnati (Mat Latos) at St. Louis (Chris Carpenter)
- 7:10 p.m. - San Francisco (Barry Zito) at Los Angeles (Chris Capuano)
