Three of the six coaches on Team USA, as well as manager Joe Torre, have ties to the Dodgers.

Team USA on Monday announced its coaching staff for the 2013 World Baseball Classic, and manager Joe Torre will be joined by three coaches with ties to the Dodgers. Larry Bowa will serve as bench coach, Greg Maddux as pitching coach, and Willie Randolph will be the third base coach.

Marcel Lacheman, who pitched for Dorsey High and USC, and managed the Angels from 1994-1996, will help Maddux with the pitching staff as bullpen/pitching coach. Dale Murphy will serve as first base coach, while Gerald Perry will be hitting coach. Both Murphy and Perry played under Torre with the Atlanta Braves, and Perry played for Torre with the St. Louis Cardinals as well.

Bowa was third base coach for the Dodgers during Torre's three years as manager in Los Angeles (2008-2010), and served in the same position under Torre with the New York Yankees in 2006-2007. Maddux was acquired by the Dodgers in a pair of in-season trades in both 2006 and 2008, and pitched the final two months of his career under Torre in 2008.

Randolph played for the Dodgers in 1989-1990, and was a coach on Torre's staff with the Yankees from 1996-2004. Randolph, like Bowa and Lacheman as well as Torre, have been major league managers.

"I'm really excited about this coaching staff for Team USA as we prepare for the 2013 World Baseball Classic in March," Torre said in a release. "Our focus is to win this tournament while ensuring that all of our players return to their clubs healthy and ready to compete in the regular season. All of us are looking forward to the privilege of representing the USA."

Team USA is in Pool D, one of four groups that will play in the first round of the 2013 WBC in a round robin style. Pool D will play its opening round from Mar. 7-10 at Chase Field in Phoenix and Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale.

The double-elimination second round will be played at two sites. Teams that advance from Pools A and B will play its second round games at the Tokyo Dome in Japan from Mar. 8-12, while teams from Pools C and D will battle in the second round at Marlins Park in Miami from Mar. 12-16. The WBC finals will be played at AT&T Park in San Francisco from Mar. 17-19.
