Look at the dustup when Arcade Fire won at the Grammys a few years back. 99% of people who pay attention to the Grammys said, “Who?!”

And that is the Grammys. The Super Bowl captures a much larger audience.

ive never ever heard of Arcade Fire or Black Keys in my life…. Ive heard of Alicia Keys though….but point is if ive never even heard of these bads before, they arent a big enough name for the Super Bowl halftime show… You gotta be a household name.

I can’t believe they don’t just have the Foo Fighters play. Classic rock style and they have actually made good music in the last decade.

Not a good start for Brady.

Nor for Al Michaels, who seemed unaware that intentional grounding in end zone=safety ’til after the call.

There is a difference between joking around amongst friends and national commercial spots. It’s not a “morality session” to notice that the commercial’s essential message is that women can be bought for sex, if you use teleflora.

Since too many men on the field is just five yards and they don’t reset the clock, why wouldn’t the Giants throw like 30 dudes out there for that last hail mary?

Minor League Central @mlcentral @andrewngrant

by regfairfield on Feb 5, 2012 7:10 PM PST reply actions

according to my brother, the game can’t end on a penalty. but that doesn’t answer why the Giants didn’t do that for the several other hail mary plays before the last one.

If it was obvious, Patriots would have just spiked the ball.

by dodgerpreacher on Feb 5, 2012 7:45 PM PST up reply actions

I thought the same thing but eventually they would have to do it with 11 men since a game cannot end on a defensive penalty and eventually they’d start getting called for 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct for being assholes.

by Joey Joe on Feb 6, 2012 12:22 AM PST up reply actions

game cant end on a defensive penalty

So the last play of the game would have to be played straight up with 11 players.

Its probably a good idea to run extra guys when there’s like 25 seconds left and the other team needs to go 75 yards…only way they can do that is to hit a big pass…but you’d need to be sneaky about it so the QB doesnt see it and just spike the ball, only have 1 second run off, and get 5 yards.

by Joey Joe on Feb 6, 2012 12:22 AM PST up reply actions

My friend at the 2 minute warning said the Patriots should let the Giants score. I said wait a little longer, but he probably turned out to be right.

just a close game….a lot of errors by the Pats, Giants were solid and steady, fortunate to recover the fumbles. I hate the Giants but I have to give Eli his props, he makes great throws in 4th quarters to beat the Patriots in Super Bowls. It’s what he does.
