Part of the Dodgers' success in the early going so far this season has been their offense. They have scored 45 runs in nine games, and average of five runs per contest, and many of those runs have come early in the game.
The Dodgers have only trailed in three of their nine games, and in two of those games they trailed by just one run and scored at least once in the immediate half inning that followed. The Dodgers have scored over half of their runs — 23 of 45 — in the first three innings.
Only Cleveland has scored more runs per game in the first three innings than the Dodgers.

Today's Pitching Matchup
Clayton Kershaw makes his third start of the season on Sunday afternoon, looking to add to the win column. Kershaw has 10 strikeouts and one walk in his 10 innings so far this season and has allowed just one run for a 0.90 ERA. Edinson Volquez starts for the Padres, making this a rematch of opening day, when Kershaw was limited to just three innings due to the stomach flu.
