Dodgers 4/21/12 Minor League Report - Jacobs Jacks a Pair of Bombs

Minor League Player of the DayChris Jacobs - 4 for 4, 2 HR's, 1 2B, 5 RBI's, 3 Runs. Big Chris Jacobs finally had the game we were all waiting for as he crushed a pair of homers on his perfect night. Hopefully the big righty will continue to bust out his big bat as the Quakes are looking for some offensive players to help out their team.

AAA – The Isotopes continued their winning ways on Saturday with a 6 - 1 win over the RedHawks (Astros). Alex Castellanos was the big hitter in this game as he crushed two homers and finished the night with 3 hits and 2 RBI's. Josh Fields and Tim Federowicz also drove in a pair of runs each to complete the Albuquerque scoring. On the mound it was Michael Antonini who hurled solid game as the lefty allowed just 4 hits and 1 run over 5.2 frames. His relievers allowed quite a few base runners, and it was Ramon Troncoso who finally shut the door on this game and lowered his ERA to 1.23.

AA – The Lookouts scored a couple of early runs during their battle with Tennessee, but the Chattanooga offensive eventually was held in check in a 4 to 2 loss to the Barons (White Sox). Starter Allen Webster recorded his 3rd loss of the young season despite allowed 2 earned runs, and at the end of the day Webster didn't have a very impressive outing as he gave up 8 hits and only struck out 4. Red Patterson finished off this game with style as he tossed the final 3 frames of his high school career without making a name for himself on the field with just 1 hit allowed. At the plate the Lookouts only managed 5 hits, and their only RBI of the night came from Webster. J.T. Wise had the club's only extra base hit, a double, while Jake Lemmerman is trying to get going and connected on a pair of singles.

HiA Zach Lee allowed 10 hits on Friday, and the Quakes had one of their best offensive performances to date and came away with a 13 to 6 victory over the Rawhide (Dbacks). Two different Rancho hitters had huge nights, starting with DH Chris Jacobs who went 4 for 4 with 2 homers, a double, and 5 RBI's. Austin Gallagher also drove in 5 runs on the night, although most of his damage came on a 2nd inning grand slam. Nick Akins had a good night as well as he went 3 for 4 with a double and a run driven in. Lee picked up his first win of the season with 6.1 solid frames which included 9 K's, and overall he allowed 3 earned runs on the night. Lee's bullpen was great in relief as Steve Smith and Freddie Cabrera finished the game with just 4 hits and 1 run allowed.

LoA – Left handed starter Jarret Martin continues to impress for the Loons, and even though Great Lakes was outhit 5 to 7 the team was able to come away with a 2 to 1 victory over the Chiefs (Cubs). Martin allowed just 1 run over 5.1 frames while striking out a career high 11, and his relievers picked up the slack in this game as they still made me a bit nervous. Juan Noriega continued his perfect professional career with 1.2 more scoreless innings, while Yimi Garcia recorded his 2nd save with a pair of K's. Devin Shine's double was the only extra base hit of this game, and James Baldwin stole 2 bases despite walking just once on Saturday.

Coming upChris Reed and Ethan Martin will headline a Sunday full of afternoon games as they will start for the Quakes and Lookouts, respectively. Stephen Fife will take the mound for the Isotopes and will look to improve upon his 10.03 ERA, while Brandon Martinez, who is coming off 6 innings of shutout ball, will toe the rubber for the Loons.
