Dodgers 4/27/12 Minor League Report - Minor League Teams Get Swept

Minor League Player of the DayMike Parisi - 7 IP, 4 Hits, 1 Run, 7 K's. For the second night in a row there wasn't an overwhelming favorite for this award, so I'm again giving the minor league player of the day to a minor league veteran. The 29 year old has a significant amount of experience in the PCL, and this year he's making the most of his familiarity with the league as he has lowered his ERA to a 2.79 through 29 innings.

AAA – The Isotopes outhit the Zephyrs 8 to 5, but Albuquerque still lost the game in a 2 - 1 defeat to New Orleans (Marlins). The Topes were actually shutout for the first 8 innings of this game and scored their only run in the top of the 9th on a RBI single by Tim Federowicz. That was one of 3 hits for FedEx, who had the only offensive highlight of the night. On the mound starter Mike Parisi had a solid outing despite the loss, allowing just 4 hits and 1 run over 7 innings to lower his ERA to 2.79. Reliever Shane Lindsay made his 2012 debut in the 8th, and lived up to his wild billing as he hit two batters, threw a wild pitch, and allowed the eventual game winning single.

AA – Ethan Martin tossed a solid game at home, but the Chattanooga bullpen allowed a few late runs and the Lookouts fell to the BayBears (Dbacks) 4 to 2. Martin was superb in his longest outing of the season as he allowed just 3 hits in 7 innings of work while striking out 7. Ethan did give up a pair of runs, however, and that was too much for his offense to overcome. Reliever Blake Johnson took the loss as he permitted the final two runs to score, although both runs were unearned thanks to a fielding error by Luis Nunez. Chattanooga had just 1 extra base hit in this game, which came on a RBI double by Travis Denker. Kyle Russell reached base three times thanks to two hits and a walk, while Pedro Baez had his second multi-hit game in a row.

HiA Chris Reed had another strong outing, but the Rancho offense was missing in action as the Quakes were shutout by the Storm (Padres) 2 to 0. The rehabbing Toddy Coffey actually started this game with a shutout frame before Reed took over and pitched the rest of this game, giving just 2 runs over 7 innings while striking out 7. He permitted a few too many baserunners, however, as he gave up 9 hits and walked 3 batters which resulted in the loss. The Quakes' offense mustered up just 5 hits in the defeat, with Chris O'Brien's double being the only base knock that went for extra bases.

LoA – Loons' starter Brandon Martinez had yet another forgettable outing as Great Lakes was cut down by the LumberKings (Mariners) 7 to 1. B-Mart lasted just 4.2 innings and allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits, including a pair of home runs. Michael Thomas was wild in relief, while Jason West tossed 3 hitless innings in a losing effort. At the plate the Loons managed just 5 hits, although 3 went for extra bases as the top 3 batters in the order, Jesus Arredondo, James Baldwin, and Joe Winker all collected doubles.

Coming up Garrett Gould and Aaron Miller will both try and rebound from tough starts last time out for the Quakes and Lookouts, respectively. Will Savage will look to break the tie at the top of the PCL leadboard with his 5th win for the Isotopes, and Matt Laney will take the mound for the Loons.

Minor League Transactions - AA: Nathan Eovaldi was promoted to the Dodgers while Kyle Russell was activated from the DL.
