Chris Capuanoooooooooooooooooooooooo (And 2/3)

"I love it when a plan comes together."

Chris Capuano continued his brilliant start to the season, while Mark Ellis, Andre Ethier, and Juan Uribe supplied the power in the Dodgers' 7-3 win over the Colorado Rockies Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

Capuano improved to 5-0 on the season by pitching seven strong innings, and he didn't allow a run until Michael Cuddyer homered with two outs in the seventh inning. The run snapped Capuano's scoreless inning streak at 25 1/3 innings, though in the MLB record books it will be recorded as a 24 2/3-inning streak as Capuano won't get credit for the two outs he recorded in the seventh inning before the home run.

In Capuano's last six starts, he has allowed six runs (a 1.39 ERA), with 35 strikeouts and 10 walks in 39 innings.

Ellis opened the scoring with a home run to left field in the second inning, his first off the season. He became the eighth Dodger to homer this season.

Ellis also doubled in two runs off Jamie Moyer in the fifth inning, and scored on a single by Ethier. It was the fifth and final inning for Moyer, who aside from the Ellis home run pitched pretty well in the first four innings. Moyer ended up with seven strikeouts in his five innings, and also induced three infield pop outs.

Ethier also homered in the seventh inning, a solo shot that gave him a National League leading 32 RBI in 32 games, one more than the red-hot Carlos Beltran of the St. Louis Cardinals. Ethier drove in his 32nd run last year on June 9, in the Dodgers' 64th game of the season.

Juan Uribe joined the power parade with a solo home run in the eighth inning, making him the ninth Dodger to homer this year. It snapped a string of 173 plate appearances for Uribe without a home run since his last long ball on June 20, 2011.

Matt Treanor has been using the A-Team theme as his at-bat walk-up music at Dodger Stadium since some point in the first homestand of the year, which is why it was surprising when the Raiders of the Lost Ark theme played before Treanor's first at-bat. After he grounded back to Moyer in the third inning, Treanor switched back to the A-Team theme and got singles in his next two at-bats.

Todd Coffey allowed two runs in the ninth inning and was removed with two outs. The first of those runs scored on a sacrifice fly to right field, with Ethier making an outstanding sliding catch at the foul pole. Ethier appeared to hurt himself on the play, as he was running gingerly tracking down a Dexter Fowler triple into the corner.

Ronald Belisario got the final out to end the game.

Notes

  • The Dodgers are 13-3 at home this season.
  • For the first time in 16 games at Dodger Stadium this season, the third song choice didn't win the Dodgers Jukebox vote (decided by fan cheering). Body Movin' by the Beastie Boys was the second choice tonight, and won for the fourth night in a row.
  • Dee Gordon went 0-for-5 for the second game in a row.
