Harang Gets The Call In Wrigley Finale

Aaron Harang has solid peripheral numbers so far this season, but that hasn't yet translated into preventing runs.

The Dodgers look for a road series win on Sunday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Here's a look at Sunday's pitching matchup.

Aaron Harang makes his sixth start of the season for Dodgers and though he has the highest strikeout rate (9.53 per nine innings) on the staff, he also has the highest walk rate (4.13 per nine innings) and highest ERA (5.72). Harang has allowed at least three runs in all five starts.

Harang does have 24 strikeouts and seven unintentional walks in 24 innings over his last four starts, though his ERA is 5.63 during that span.

Opposing hitters leading off an inning against Harang are 11-for-28 this season with two doubles, two home runs, a walk, and a hit by pitch, hitting .393 with a .433 on-base percentage.

Harang his first time through the lineup this season has held opposing batters to hit .205/.267/.282; after that, batters are hitting .324/.402/.507 off Harang.

There are only two Cubs position players with double digit plate appearances against Harang are Alfonso Soriano (11-for-40 with a home run) and Geovany Soto (5-for-23 with a home run).

Travis Wood gets the call up from Triple A on Sunday to start in place of Matt Garza. Wood started twice against the Dodgers last season while with the Cincinnati Reds. On June 5 in Cincinnati, the Dodgers battered Wood for eight runs, including home runs from Matt Kemp and Chad Billingsley.

Wood started 10 days later against the Dodgers in Los Angeles and wasn't necessarily effective, with five walks and 11 baserunners allowed in six innings with just two strikeouts, but he only allowed one run for the win. After his two home runs allowed to the Dodgers on June 5, Wood pitched 33 2/3 major league innings over nine games without allowing another home run for the remainder of the season.

Andre Ethier is 3-for-4 with two doubles and a hit by pitch off Wood, and Kemp is 2-for-4 with the aforementioned home run and two walks. Wood was 1-3 with a 5.08 ERA with Triple A Iowa this season, with 30 strikeouts and eight walks in 28 innings.
