Minor League Player of the Day – Allen Webster - 4 IP, 0 Runs, 1 Hit, 1 Walk, 4 K's. Webster started a game for the first time since May 9th, and his return to the rotation was a success as he threw 4 very solid innings.
AAA – A depleted Isotope lineup wasn't able to muster up any runs as Albuquerque was shut out 3 - 0 by New Orleans (Marlins). The Isotopes did get Jerry Sands back and he went 1 for 3 with a walk, but the team did not have an extra base hit in the loss. Matt Angle's 2 for 4 effort was about the only offensive highlight. John Ely threw relatively well in the loss, but 2 of the 8 hits he allowed were solo homers so he was saddled with the loss. Shawn Tolleson had his fourth scoreless outing in a row as he struck out 2 in a shutout inning, while Josh Wall gave up a solo homer in his inning of work.
AA – A homer by former Lookout Corey Smith accounted for the only run in this game as Chattanooga lost to the Barons (White Sox) 1 to 0. As you may have guessed there was not a lot of offense in this game as the Lookouts had just 4 hits. Blake Smith tripled and walked, but was the only notable performance at the plate. Allen Webster made a successful return to the rotation as he allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk over 4 shutout frames, striking out 4 in the process. He was lifted after just 43 pitches because his still needs to build his stamina back up after so many relief appearances. Red Patterson recorded the loss as he allowed the home run in his two innings of work, while Luis Vasquez finished the game with 2 perfect frames.
HiA – The Quakes were outhit 12 to 7 on Thursday, but they still managed to pull out a 7 - 5 win over the Storm (Padres). Juan Rivera made the most out of his rehab assignment as he hit a big two run homer, while C.J. Retherford also took one deep and drove in 2 runs. Joc Pederson drove in a pair as well with a 2-run single and stole a base, and Scott Wingo doubled for the only other extra base hit of this game. On the mound Jon Michael Redding got hit around a bit as he allowed 9 base knocks, and although he gave up 4 runs he picked up the win. Ryan Acosta was excellent in relief as he struck out 5 of the 6 batters he faced, and Eric Eadington recorded the save despite allowing 3 hits and a run.
LoA – Rained out
Coming up – The Loons play a double-header on Friday, and Gustavo Gomez will start the first game. Ethan Martin will take the mound for the Lookouts, and Michael Antonini is expected to start for the Isotopes. Finally, Garrett Gould hasn't been announced as the starting pitcher for the Quakes, but I expect him to to throw.
Minor League Transactions – HiA: Great news as Zach Lee was assigned back to the Quakes on Friday. LoA: Jan Vasquez was placed on the DL and Andrew Edge was activated to take his spot.
