The Dodgers look to salvage a game in their series in Oakland, and they will send Clayton Kershaw to the mound on Wednesday afternoon against the A's. The Dodgers ace had a 1.90 ERA after shutting out the St. Louis Cardinals on May 19, but in five starts since has a 4.68 ERA, though he has 37 strikeouts and 10 unintentional walks in 32 2/3 innings.

The Dodgers have had trouble winning in Oakland, dropping 11 of their 13 regular season games at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum since interleague play began in 1997. Here is a look at their wins in Oakland:

  • 1988 World Series, Game 4: The Dodgers took advantage of a passed ball and an error to score two runs off Dave Stewart in the first inning, and Tim Belcher struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings to help preserve a 4-3 win to give the Dodgers a commanding 3-1 series lead.
  • 1988 World Series, Game 5: Mickey Hatcher and Mike Davis homered, and Orel Hershiser pitched another complete game, beating the A's 5-2 to win the franchise's sixth World Series.
  • June 13, 1997: Eric Karros hit a two-run home run off Steve Karsay to tie the game in the eighth, and Mike Piazza hit an RBI double in the ninth as the Dodgers won 6-4.
  • July 14, 2001: A pair of bases loaded walks in the 15th inning gave the Dodgers a 5-3 win. Olmedo Saenz played third base and first base in this game...for the A's.

After each of those regular season wins, the Dodgers lost their next five games in Oakland. Will that five-game Oakland losing streak snap today?

Oakland Roster Moves

The A's made a few roster moves before today's series finale. Left-handed reliever Jordan Norberto was activated off the disabled list, and catcher Derek Norris was recalled from Triple A Sacramento. Left-handed pitcher Pedro Figueroa and catcher/infielder Josh Donaldson were optioned to Triple A. Norris is starting behind the plate today, making his major league debut.
